Brownie Points
Last night I took my wife Teresa on a training ride. It was a ride to match her pace and help her understand effective group riding on a bike at speed, safely. The benefits are I get to spend quality time with her, it's an active recovery ride for me and we get to stop and take a few phone camera shots I would not otherwise stop for while out training. This scene and many more caught my eye, I will be returning to this spot with camera in hand this weekend.

Surrounded by Friends
For the amazing +Sandra Parlow
It was a pleasure to organize this past weekends 2nd Annual #TorontoPhotowalk with Sandra. Her infectious laugh and sparkling eyes had everyone smiling. We had a great day on Toronto Island and I would like to thank everyone who attended.
I know it was difficult for Sandra to part ways with everyone after the walk, it was the one time during the day when she was at a loss for words.
From the bottom of my heart I say thank you Sandra for an amazing day.

Life is Precious in the Forest
In southern Ontario there are pockets of Carolinian forest which are becoming more scarce these days, our family has a 36 acre Carolinian managed forest which I enjoy spending time on. This morning I was up at 4:30am and in the forest by 5am to experience another awakening of birds and wildlife. While sitting at a huge maple tree I heard a faint grunt behind me, as I peered around the tree this day old fawn was just getting up on it's unsteady legs. It dawned on me that I had seen its mother feeding earlier, the mother will "place" the fawn in a safe location and go about foraging for spring shoots while the fawn lays motionless on the forest floor, this is a natural instinct the fawn has to avoid detection from predators.
If you ever come upon and fawn like this, enjoy the moment do not attempt to touch the fawn and move on qui... more »

For The Hunters
First day out and a successful hunt.
Woke at 5am(worked late last night) and headed out to the family woodlot. As I got prepared I could hear the gobblers out already across the road off our property and some faint gobblers back in the bush. I quickly head back to my planned spot hoping I wasn't too late. After putting the hen decoy out and settling I did a few locator calls but no response, waited a little and spotted 2 off in the distance. They came in and out of view over the next 1/2 hr and finally responded to my calls slowly making their way to me. they appeared to see the hen decoy and weaved their way closer, never coming right in, They did an arc around the decoy and finally at about 30 yrds I had a clear shot.
I have to say it was exciting watching them come in strutting and responding to my calls.
A couple of photo's after... more »

Troll Under the Bridge
Just before Webster's Falls there is a stone bridge, moonrise backlit.
I received a text from +Darryl Van Gaal asking if I wanted to head to a location we had talked about in the past, a place I have been to many times but Darryl wanted to photograph it at night, well of course I was up for it! Although most of the snow is gone (I missed getting here this winter) there was still opportunity to get some decent shooting in.

Bryce is Nice
What is it about the American Southwest that is so damn beautiful. I.ve been four times over the years and it keeps drawing me back. Every time I say I need to travel to another part of the world I keep getting drawn back.
This image was created in November just as the sun was setting with clouds partially blocking the sun allowing a few of the hoodoo's to illuminate
I know what attracts me back year after year, what attracts you and so many others?
Curious to hear your thoughts!

A Helping Hand
As though held up by the hands of the surrounding tree's, this old Sycamore tree is slowly losing its battle with time, soon to be return from the soil it was born.
I came across this gem while on a photo project along the Grand River. The hollow in the trunk of the tree is large enough for me to step inside.
I shall return year after year until time takes it toll.

Winter Delight
It's such a rare opportunity in my area for conditions like this, so when it happens there is no excuse for getting out and capturing it. There was a heavy fog that rolled in with temps at -15deg which resulted in hoar frost forming on everything the fog touched. Once the fog burned off from the sun it left scene's like this along the country side.
What an amazing time to be out on a cool crisp morning...

Infinite Dissipation
It's very rare that I submit to daily theme's but I had to come up with something for +Olivier Du Tré's #minimalmonday
For #treetuesday curated by +Christina Lawrie and +Shannon S. Myers
On this day I was out photographing for a postcard client, conditions dictated a minimalist style of shooting and immediately Olivier's theme came to mind. it was a cool -15deg out with a fog hanging low which created great conditions for fog frost.

Selecting Your Composition
Theme: #PhotoWorkshop #FlowingWater #Ontario
My previous post here -> http://goo.gl/RBMlo was a landscape orientation of the same scene(This is not a crop of the other scene). They both contain similar elements but have a very different feel to them, This one is less about the water (which is still a key element) and more about the tress, while the other more focused on the flowing water.
When you approach a scene how do you analyse and come up with your compositions?
For myself I like to sit and look around listen to the sounds and observe movement, from there I start to get a feel for what I like. I will look at the scene from different perspectives both directional and from different levels, look for forground interest and distractions. I like to absorb the environment with all my senses... Try to convey how I fe... more »

Slipping Away
Theme: #flowingwater #Ontario
I had a chance to head up north to the hunt camp this past weekend with my son Seamus, we headed down to one of our favorite area's within an intimate gorge.
The conditions were ideal with temps hitting -32 deg which helped with the frost and fresh snow clinging to the trees, my only regret is not having more time to seek out more compositions... well I guess that just means a return trip soon!
Did I say how much I love winter?

Lone Wolf
As an animal, a lone wolf is a wolf that lives independently rather than with others as a member of a pack.
When used to describe a person, this term is applied to individuals who prefer solitude or who work alone.
As much as I love the company of friends and family, there are times I need to go off on my own and reconnect with myself. Maybe this lone wolf coming into my life for a fleeting moment was a message, maybe not...
My lack of posting on G+ as of late has reflected this, a phase I have gone through throughout my life.
Maybe it's time to come back ;-)

Cuteness Abounds
And Brooklyn has plenty of it!
I had the pleasure of Photographing the wedding of +Darryl Van Gaal and his new bride Crystal over the weekend, while they are away I have a few non bride and groom images I would like to share from this day.

Brooklyn is a natural in front of the camera, a photographers dream. Every time she saw me, those eyes lit up with a beaming smile and of course I was more than happy to take her picture.
