Tako da vas ovom prilikom obavestavam da ce se ubuduce ova redovna serija sastanaka odrzavati na ovom novom serveru, koji mi potpuno kontrolisemo. :D Sastanci ce se i dalje odrzavati svake srede od 20h i sastanak LiBRE tima svakog ponedeljka od 20h. Inace ja bih ovom prilikom pozvao i moderatore i clanove zajednice da dodju sutra u cetvrtak 29.01.2015 na sastanak nase zajednice "Linux u Srbiji" povodom dogovora sta raditi dalje i kakve marketinske/promocione korake preduzeti... Ista pravila i dalje vaze. Znaci sastanci su za sve linux korisnike/ce i geekove koje interesuje linuks, Open Source i uopste hakerski nacin razmisljanja, zivota i delovanja. Zbog samog letnjeg perioda i godisnjih odmora posecenost serveru nam je nesto pala, ali i dalje uvek mozete da nadjete ljude iz stare ekipe na serveru u vreme sastanka. Ista pravila i dalje vaze. Znaci sastanci su za sve linux korisnike/ce i geekove koje interesuje linuks, Open Source i uopste hakerski nacin razmisljanja, zivota i delovanja. I dalje se razmislja o organizovanju predavanja na temu linuksa, sistema otvorenog koda - FOSS, programiranja... O dogovorenom nacinu izvodjenja predavanja cete biti blagovremeno obavesteni. Marko Shiva Pavlovic (in1t3r)22,361Pozdrav prijatelji korisnici linuksa. Svi ste pozvani na okupljanja na nasem mumble serveru sredom od 20h, a i u svakom drugom terminu. Teme okupljanja su i dalje organizacija virutalnih predavanja, priprema BalCCon-a i uopste ono sto vi imate da kazete o linuksu. Na sastancima se vec ustalio prosecan broj od oko 20-ak linuks korisnika u isto vreme na serveru. Sastanci su otvoreni za sve korinsike linuksa i ljubitelje istog, tako da slobodno pozovite svoje prijatelje za koje mislite da bi zeleli da prisustvuju ovakvim sastancima ili imali sta da kazu na ove teme. Na skupovima imamo i zvanicno svake srede milobita ispred lugons-a :) Testiramo i novu, nasu instalaciju mumble servera na VPS-u, za slucaj da se broj korisnika jos omasovi ili nam na bilo koji drugi nacin ovaj server ne bude dovoljan. O promeni adrese servera i cete biti unapred obavesteni, ukoliko dodje do iste. I dalje trazimo ljude koji bi bili spremni da odrze predavanja u virtualnoj formi, screenshare slajdovi i tako to. Oblasti za predavanja mogu u osnovi da budu bilo sta sto se tice:      - Linuksa      - Open source - Otvorenog koda      - Programiranja      - Sistemske i Mrezne Administracije      - Penetracije sistema i hacking-a      - Kriptografije     uopste  bilo koja tema iz doticnih oblasti za koju mislite da bi bila interesantna korisnicima. Jos uvek radimo na testiranju nacina emitovanja predavanja i trazimo potencijalne predavace. Da podvucem predavanja ne moraju da budu samo za advanced korisnike, tj i dobro osmisljenja predavanja za pocetnike dolaze u obzir. Kada planirate predavanje trebalo bi da ogranicite isto na 45min do 1h, moze i oko 30 min, cisto zbog paznje slusalaca. Ako vase predavanje je duze tj imate vise materijala to mozete podeliti u vise predavanja od po 45 min. African mosaic
Using almost 7000 images captured by the Sentinel-2A satellite, this mosaic offers a cloud-free view of the African continent – about 20% of the total land area in the world. The majority of these separate images were taken between December 2015 and April 2016, totalling 32 TB of data. Thanks to Sentinel-2A’s 290 km-wide swath and 10-day revisit at the equator, the chance of imaging Earth’s surface when the skies are clear is relatively high. Nevertheless, being able to capture the Tropics cloud-free over the five months is remarkable.

Relativistic jets and the Collapsar model
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) were first detected by American nuclear detection surveillance satellites in the late 1960s. The Vela spacecraft series were designed to monitor world-wide compliance with the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. The satellites detected no clandestine nuclear explosions, but they discovered something far more interesting: powerful bursts of gamma rays emanating from random directions in space. By analyzing the different arrival times of the bursts as detected by different satellites, scientists concluded that the sources of the bursts were cosmic and not terrestrial or solar. The discovery was declassified and published in 1973 as an Astrophysical Journal article entitled “Observations of Gamma-Ray Bursts of Cosmic Origin”. This alerted the astronomical community to the existence of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), now recognized as the most violent events in the universe.

To this day GRBs remain one of the greatest mysteries of modern astronomy. We know that GRBs lasting less than 2 seconds (short GRBs) may originate from a variety of processes. There are several theories that explain how the energy from a gamma-ray burst progenitor is turned into radiation. One hypothesis describing how long gamma-ray bursts originate is called the “collapsar” model: gamma-rays are generated when massive, spinning stars collapse to form black holes and spew out powerful jets of plasma at nearly the speed of light.These stellar collapses (collapsars) are thought to be similar to supernovae, except that a jet is produced by the accretion of stellar material onto a compact object formed at the center of the collapsing star.


These jets are called ’relativistic jets’ and they can transport the energy from the collapsed core to large distances. Inside the jet, the uneven distribution of temperature, density and pressure create internal shock waves that move inward and outward as faster regions within the jet collide with slower ones. The collisions between the fast-moving gas and its surroundings, as well as within the jet itself, create gamma rays. When the jet hits the surrounding interstellar medium it produces another shock wave. This causes particles to rapidly lose energy (fast cooling), due to the strong magnetic field in the GRB emission region, through a process known as synchrotron radiation. This phenomenon is observed as long gamma-ray bursts and it’s followed by a so-called “afterglow”, a slowly fading emission that can be seen at all wavelengths; starting with X-rays, followed by ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, and eventually radio waves.The afterglow can last for days or even weeks.

Exploring Synapses with a Gigantic Advantage
How does memory occur? And what about movement, or thinking? One key element to understand all these brain functions are the synapses. A synapse is the contact point between two neurons, where a signal is transmitted one-way, from one neuron to another. Specifically, from the pre-synaptic part of one neuron, to the post-synaptic part of another neuron. This communication process involves many types of proteins, and allows us, for example, to memorize a friend’s name. Moreover, synapses do not just pass ‘messages’ from one neuron to another, but also keep the strength of transmitting such ‘messages’ for a short or a long period of time, thus playing a main role in memory formation.

Synaptic malfunction is thought to underlie the early stages of neuro-degenerative diseases, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Because of that, understanding the disease progression inside the synapse can lead to the development of drugs to control such diseases. However, a problem when studying synapses is that they are too small for direct access with recording tools. Even with a powerful microscope, it is difficult to see what is happening within a single synapse. But researchers from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) and Doshisha University have found a way around this problem. They have discovered a method to create a synapse that is large enough to allow them to directly monitor events occurring inside the synaptic structure.

In an article published in The Journal of Neuroscience, Dr Dimitar Dimitrov, from the OIST Cellular and Molecular Synaptic Function Unit headed by Prof Tomoyuki Takahashi, and colleagues describe a new method to grow giant synapses in culture dishes. They take fresh neuronal cells from specific regions of mice brains, grow them in a culture dish, and let them form giant synapses. These giant synapses are distinct from conventional small synapses. In these giant synapses, the pre-synaptic part of one neuron does not just ‘touch’ the post-synaptic part of another neuron, but wraps around the whole cell body of the post-synaptic neuron.

This breakthrough was made after many trials and errors.

At the risk of being foolhardy, here’s a best faith effort at a super-condensed summary:

Our material, sensory world is pure information, processed by a simple algorithm; a probabilistic, digital virtual reality simulation. We are avatars in this simulation.

The hardware/software that the simulation runs on is a unified field of primordial consciousness. This field is outside of the simulation and thus there are limits to what we can know about it. We can however, experience it directly, particularly when sensory input is reduced, in practices such as meditation.

All of physics is directly derivable from the two previous points, including seemingly paradoxical relativity and quantum mechanics:


Relativity – Einstein’s theories are based on the principle that the speed of light (C) can’t be exceeded. C is simply a perimeter of the program that limits the rate at which information can move between locations for successive iterations of the simulation.


 Quantum mechanics – The key principle underlying quantum mechanics is that particles behave like probability distributions. That’s because probability distributions are what the algorithm actually calculates.

The direction of the simulation is towards greater order (you can think of this as a game with a defined objective of achieving zero entropy). Large, lower entropy systems (such as stars, then planets, life and ultimately ever increasing intelligence) are favored because they have a higher likelihood of persisting, compared to more random systems.


As avatars, we are part of this pattern and learning is the key to lowering our own entropy. But in a world full of potential things to learn, what is the optimal game strategy? The answer comes from looking at the inherent nature of the game; probabilistic simulations are characterized by lots of unexpected “stuff” happening. This suggests two possible approaches. One would be to try to manipulate outcomes such that good things happen, from the avatar’s perspective. There is nothing wrong with this and planning is no doubt useful, however this strategy yields diminishing returns because the world is far too complex to anticipate all possible outcomes. As a result, progressively more time and resources are required for further improvements. A superior strategy is to improve one’s reactions to negative outcomes when they inevitably occur. From a behavioral standpoint, this results in less hatred, greed and self-delusion and more altruism and compassion. This kind of personal entropy reduction feels like moving from mental chaos towards an abiding joy and peace, and is what we typically call wisdom.

The Orion Nebula in Visible and Infrared 

The Great Nebula in Orion is a colorful place. Visible to the unaided eye, it appears as a small fuzzy patch in the constellation of Orion. Long exposure, multi-wavelength images like this, however, show the Orion Nebula to be a busy neighborhood of young stars, hot gas, and dark dust.

This digital composite features not only three colors of visible light but four colors of infrared light taken by NASA's orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope as well. The power behind much of the Orion Nebula (M42) is the Trapezium - four of the brightest stars in the nebula.

Many of the filamentary structures visible are actually shock waves - fronts where fast moving material encounters slow moving gas. The Orion Nebula spans about 40 light years and is located about 1500 light years away in the same spiral arm of our Galaxy as the Sun.

Stereo overlap of the imaging has allowed the computation of topographical maps with coverage between 80 degrees north and south latitude. The results have about a 300 meter resolution on the lunar surface and 10 to 20 meter elevation accuracy.

A biotech company in the US has been granted ethical permission to recruit 20 patients who have been declared clinically dead from a traumatic brain injury, to test whether parts of their central nervous system can be brought back to life.

Scientists will use a combination of therapies, which include injecting the brain with stem cells and a cocktail of peptides, as well as deploying lasers and nerve stimulation techniques which have been shown to bring patients out of comas.

The trial participants will have been certified dead and only kept alive through life support. They will be monitored for several months using brain imaging equipment to look for signs of regeneration, particularly in the upper spinal cord - the lowest region of the brain stem which controls independent breathing and heartbeat.

The team believes that the brain stem cells may be able to erase their history and re-start life again, based on their surrounding tissue – a process seen in the animal kingdom in creatures like salamanders who can regrow entire limbs.

Once the newborn is free, leave it in the incubation cup until its first shed which usually occurs within the first day. As it sheds the gecko will eat the skin. The shed skin is nutritional and important to a newborn gecko.

On this day 1618 Johannes Kepler rediscovered his 3rd Law of Planetary Motion.

After I had discovered true intervals of the orbits by ceaseless labor over a very long time and with the help of Brahe’s observations, finally the true proportion of the orbits showed itself to me. On the 8th of March of this year 1618, if exact information about the time is desired, it appeared in my head. But I was unlucky when I inserted it into the calculation, and rejected it as false. Finally, on May 15, it came again and with a new onset conquered the darkness of my mind, whereat there followed such an excellent agreement between my seventeen years of work at the Tychonic observations and my present deliberation that I at first believed that I had dreamed and assumed the sought for in the supporting proofs. But it is entirely certain and exact that the proportion between the periodic times of any two planets is precisely one and a half times the proportion of the mean distances.”
With these words Johannes Kepler announced, in his usual overblown flowery style, his third law of planetary motion in the fifth book of his Harmonices Mundi.

While Kepler published his first two laws in 1609, the third law was published ten years later in 1619. Now it was known that the orbital period, the time taken by the planet to make one complete orbit around the sun, was lower for the planets closer to the sun than those farther away from the sun. Planet mercury, for example, is named after the Roman God Mercury who was the messenger of the Gods. Mercury circles around the sun in a mere 88 (Earth) days. Pluto, on the other hand, revolves around the sun in 246 years!

Kepler's third law finds the underlying pattern in these orbital periods and states:

The square of the orbital period of a planet is proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis of its orbit.

In other words, if T is the orbital period of the planet and D be its distance, T2 ∝ D3.

To explain simply, consider Earth. Earth is at a distance of 1 a.u. (1 a.u. = roughly 150 million km) from the sun and revolves in 1 year around the sun. Jupiter is about 5.2 a.u. from the sun.
If T is the orbital period of Jupiter, then...
T2 should be close to the 5.23 ≈ 140.
And what number squared is roughly 140? 11.8. And sure enough, Jupiter's orbital time is 11.8 years.

Transits of Mercury are relatively rare. Monday's leisurely 7.5 hour long event was only the 2nd of 14 Mercury transits in the 21st century. If you're willing to travel, transits of the International Space Station can be more frequent though, and much quicker.

Sitting at Saturn’s south pole is a vortex of monstrous proportions. The dark ‘eye’ of this feature is some 8000 km across, or about two thirds the diameter of Earth.

is 10 times more detailed than any previous picture of the polar vortex and shows a level of detail inside the eye that was not previously observable. Earlier images showed towering clouds around the edge of this vortex, but inside the air was thought to be mostly transparent. Here, however, a multitude of features is revealed.

Clouds are produced by convection – warm, rising gases in the atmosphere of Saturn. As they reach higher, and therefore colder, layers of the atmosphere, the gases condense and appear as clouds. At the 10 o’clock position, a stream of upwelling gas has created its own smaller vortex inside the larger one.

This view is an adjusted composite of two frames taken by the
Cassini spacecraft on 14 July 2008. Cassini actually captured the scene from an oblique angle, some 56º below the plane of Saturn’s rings – a far cry from the view directly over the south pole. The orbiter was about 392 000 km from the planet at the time, yet Cassini’s camera still provided a resolution of 2 km per pixel.

Towering eye-walls of cloud are a distinguishing feature of hurricanes on Earth. Like earthly hurricanes, the eye of this storm is composed of warmer gas than the surroundings. However, whereas hurricanes are powered by warm water and move across the surface of our planet, this vortex has no liquid ocean at its base and remains fixed to Saturn’s south pole.

Round, swirling vortices are part of the general circulation in the atmospheres of all four giant, outer planets, and Cassini has spied many mobile ones rolling through Saturn’s clouds at other latitudes. While vortices are often informally referred to as storms, scientists generally reserve that term for bright, short-lived bursts of convection that punch though the clouds, often accompanied by lightning.
In addition to being a thing of beauty, the vortex provides astronomers with a way to look deep into the planet’s atmosphere.

Pink Aurora
Why is this aurora strikingly pink? Although much is known about the physical mechanisms that create auroras, accurately predicting the occurrence and colors of auroras remains a topic of investigation. Typically, it is known, the lowest auroras appear green. These occur at about 100 kilometers high and involve atmospheric oxygen atoms excited by fast moving plasma from space.

The next highest auroras -- at about 200 kilometers up -- appear red, and are also emitted by resettling atmospheric oxygen. Some of the highest auroras visible -- as high as 500 kilometers up -- appear blue, and are caused by sunlight-scattering nitrogen ions.

When looking from the ground through different layers of distant auroras, their colors can combine to produce unique and spectacular hues, in this case rare pink hues seen below.

Payne's insight has become a central tenet of astronomy and astrophysics: The universe is awash in hydrogen, with stars and explosions such as supernovas responsible for creating heavier elements.

Later in her career Payne turned her attention to variable stars that ebb and flow in brightness. In 1956, after decades as one of the world's leading astronomers, Harvard finally made her a full professor, the first woman to attain that title at the school.

The infinite series 1/4 + 1/16 + 1/64 + 1/256 + ⋯

The gif below is an old animation from Matthew Henderson.

That one shows a visual proof suggesting:

¼ + 1/16 + 1/64… = 1/3.

Each term in the series is a quarter of the previous one. Each red area is a quarter the size of the one before it, and the final red area is converging to a third of the big triangle.

In mathematics, the infinite series 1/4 + 1/16 + 1/64 + 1/256 + · · · is an example of one of the first infinite series to be summed in the history of mathematics; it was used by Archimedes circa 250–200 BC in his work Quadrature of the Parabola (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrature_of_the_Parabola).

The detailed analysis of Windows 10 Enterprise showed 5508 connection attempts from the unused and clean install of Windows 10 Enterprise operating system. Out of those, 3967 connection attempts were made to 51 different Microsoft IP addresses.

"Privacy" with Windows 10, even in Enterprise edition - is a joke!
