We've survived by hiding from them, by running from them. But they are the gatekeepers. They are guarding all the doors, they are holding all the keys. Which means that sooner or later, someone is going to have to fight them.

I am not anti-government, I am pro people. If being pro people automatically makes me anti-government, then we have a definite problem with the government. The government in a democracy is supposed to represent the people instead of plotting our demise and how to disarm us in secret meetings. When that happens, we are presented with a government gone wild that we must reign in to stop their reign of terror.

I don't wanna remember nothing. Nothing!
The irony of this scene is just... mind-blowing.
People watch this movie, this scene, and they are properly entertained by it.
They'll laugh about the fantasy of it all.
And all the while... the movie should serve as a huge wake up call.
It (and any other movie, book or piece of music) is not mere entertainment, just because you are told it is.
But it probably doesn't wake up most people.
Because... when I say to you that we are living in our own kind of Matrix - the kind that includes the movie The Matrix as well - and that this movie is just one of the many displays of symbolism that run through our whole existence, you would probably oppose: "But it's only a movie!"
And that's both the beauty and the irony of it.
Because if I would... more »

Uncle Sam's Misguided Children - Police state madness - more and more children being arrested for trivial things - things we all probably did at some point as kids:
#1 At one public school down in Texas, a 12-year-old girl named Sarah Bustamantes was recently arrested for spraying herself with perfume.
#2 A 13-year-old student at a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico was recently arrested by police for burping in class.
#3 Another student down in Albuquerque was forced to strip down to his underwear while five adults watched because he had $200 in his pocket. The student was never formally charged with doing anything wrong.
#4 A security guard at one school in California broke the arm of a 16-year-old girl because she left some crumbs on the floor after cleaning up some cake that she had spilled.
#5 One teenage couple down in Houston poured milk on... more »

Can Scoble kill Google Glass?
Wired yesterday claimed I could kill Google Glass before it ever gets off the ground. Article linked here: http://www.wired.com/business/2013/05/inherent-dorkiness-of-google-glass/
That is an awful lot of power to give one guy.
But, let's be objective here. A great product can survive all PR abuse. Google Glass is a great product. Why do I know that? Because yesterday I was at 500 Startups and let everyone try them on. Every single person, even the skeptics, smiled when putting it on.
I haven't seen a product do that since the iPod.
A bunch of us are talking about this over on on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RobertScoble/posts/10151578092299655
In 30 minutes I'll be talking with the Geeks at +Betaworks about Glass (the folks who bought Digg and Instapaper) and we're sharing it l... more »

Contact
Aliens are probably the most common topic of science fiction. They are typically an extension of our hopes and fears. Wise parental figures, evil enemies, noble savages, fierce predators. They are often physically quite similar to us, with a bipedal gait, opposable thumbs, etc. We dream of life on other worlds. Reaching out to the stars and meeting an alien intelligence. But is that likely, or even possible.
The difficulty with that question is that we currently only have one example of life in the universe, and that is us, the commonly descended family of life on Earth. Beyond that, there is a quite a bit of guesswork. It is at this point that the Drake equation is often invoked.
The Drake equation is often interpreted as a way to calculate the number of intelligent civilizations in the galaxy. It was originally proposed at the first SETI conferen... more »

German student creates electromagnetic harvester that gathers free electricity from thin air
A German student has built an electromagnetic harvester that recharges an AA battery by soaking up ambient, environmental radiation. These harvesters can gather free electricity from just about anything, including overhead power lines, coffee machines, refrigerators, or even the emissions from your WiFi router or smartphone.
This might sound a bit like hocus-pocus pseudoscience, but the underlying science is actually surprisingly sound. We are, after all, just talking about wireless power transfer — just like the smartphones that are starting to ship with wireless charging tech, and the accompanying charging pads.
Dennis Siegel, of the University of Arts Bremen, does away with the charging pad, but the underlying tech is fundamentally the same. We don’t have the exact details — eithe... more »
