The IRS Gave Special Treatment to Obama's Brother While Targeting Tea Party

Ken Boehm, Chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center, joined the program to discuss the ongoing IRS scandal. It turns out the IRS was more-than-friendly with Obama’s half Brother (and his charity) while they were targeting conservative groups for audits.

And, Attorney General Eric Witholder doesn’t seem to know much. . . Ezra Klein might be an idiot, but Eric Holder is (supposedly) clueless. . .

European Union and Switzerland sign Cooperation Agreement in Competition Matters

The European Union and the Swiss Confederation have signed an agreement that will strengthen co-operation between their respective competition authorities, the European Commission and the Swiss Competition Commission. This is the fifth such agreement signed by the EU after agreements concluded with the United States, Canada, Japan and Korea. An innovative feature of the agreement with Switzerland is that it will enable the two competition agencies to exchange information they have obtained in their investigations. The signature took place subject to ratification: the agreement will enter into force once it has been approved by the European Parliament and the Swiss Parliament.

I have decided to un-update Google Talk on my Samsung Galaxy Ace. It's now Talk again instead of Hangouts (well, it still says Hangouts, but the icon is of Talk). Much better this way.

I think I've fixed it. You've got to click on the icon of the person and then manually unselect the people you included in your earlier post.

How the heck do I get rid of this? I shared something with myself and +James Barraford and suddenly can't share something new, without sharing it to us as well. Anybody knows how to fix this? Tried backspace, doesn't work. Nothing does. I can only click away whichever circle or community I add to it.

Long form Plussers have to look at G+ as if it's an online magazine, not a social network

Just now, +James Barraford and I had a, what I believe to be, interesting exchange about G+' new design and the effect it has on so-called long-form plussers. I'd like to quote it here and wonder what you all think about it?

Google+ has always been a social platform then really emphasised photographs. I think this latest change to it's UI has really gives extra prominence to images, so much so that I am think those people who mainly post text may find their posts swamped by sometimes huge images. I think it is important to have a balance within the UI but at the moment I think it has become to image top heavy.

Chaos in Turkey as police use tear gas and water cannons to put down rioters protesting over Syria

Turks reject Erdogan's Syria policy. 

The crackdown followed similar scenes in Ankara yesterday, where clashes between students and security forces using cannons and gas saw 30 arrested and two injured.

Crowds in Istanbul and Ankara were protesting against prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's funding and support for the Syrian rebels against President Bashar Assad.

Erdogan is gravely mistaken if he believes he can help these extremists without eventually being targeted by them himself. They want to take over every country where the majority of the population consists out of muslims, Turkey included.

Happening in Syria right now: the rebels, supported by Turkey, the EU and the US are executing captured Assad soldiers. It's a very troubling video - and that's exactly why I'm sharing it. People need to know what the 'rebels' are doing. Note that they're extremists: tekfir! 'Allahu akhbar!' They shout.

NBC's Lisa Myers reported this morning that the IRS  deliberately chose not to reveal that it had wrongly targeted conservative groups until after the 2012 presidential election:

The IRS commissioner "has known for at least a year that this was going on," said Myers, "and that this had happened. And did he share any of that information with the White House? But even more importantly, Congress is going to ask him, why did you mislead us for an entire year? Members of Congress were saying conservatives are being targeted. What's going on here? ZDNet editor unhappy with the new Google Hangouts. After these few days, I have to agree with him: it isn't handy. At all.

The other changes are OK (although I'd like Google to change the font; it's too gray, make it black), but Hangouts don't add anything for me, especially not if I just want to quickly chat with people (and see who's online and who isn't).

Another bluckbuster from the Obama administration: the department of homeland security wants to work closely with muslim fundamentalists, and wants to ignore muslim reformists.

Is the Obama administration actively helping and promoting fundamentalist islamic organizations, not only abroad, but even in the U.S.?

No question, this is real. I often feel when +Esma Babacan is back from work, and she and I both often know what the other is thinking about. Additionally, we tend to call each other when we're separated at the exact same time. 

It happens when you're close. How there can be any debate about it is beyond me.

Obamacare exemplifies the left's response to every issue or problem: more government power and control, with only them in charge. It never works.

There are many reasons for this. In any free market situation, the law of supply and demand -- the combined choices of millions of people each trying to act in their rational self-interest -- determines prices and the allocation of goods and services. When government meddles or interferes with these choices, the inevitable result is shortages in goods and services people want or need and surpluses in goods and services people don't want or need.

Esma and me went to the Netherlands. We had a great time there with my parents, sister, brother-in-law, their kids, etc. and so on. Saturday 11 May I participated in a debating session for HappyChaos called "Alienation" (in Dutch: vervreemding). It was an interesting debate and it was very kind of the organization to ask me and to arrange tickets and very good seats for the Fiancee and father and mother.

The U.S. Marshal Service has been “unable to locate” two former participants in the federal Witness Security Program “identified as known or suspected terrorists,” states the public summary of an interim Justice Department Inspector General’s report obtained by CNN.

Apparently they now believe that one resides in the US, the other outside it. But they aren't sure, because they're, you know, lost.

IRS to pro-life group: Send letter pledging not to protest Planned Parenthood to get your tax exemption.

The Inspector General of the Treasury reported this week that the IRS began applying extra scrutiny and conducting harassment of Obama administration opponents as early as March 2010. However, for at least two pro-life groups, that scrutiny appears to have started a year earlier. Joel Gehrke reports that one group was told its tax-exempt application depended not on promising to stay out of electoral politics, but on pledging not to protest Planned Parenthood — a prominent supporter of Barack Obama.
