This video made me cry and I can't explain why. Objectively the narration is simple and footages are pretty commonplace. But I guess the underlying message it conveys is just so powerful: unconditional love and selfless giving.

Most popular YouTube comment was "I want God to put this kind of love in my heart." -- I say +1 to that.

+Air Canada strikes again. After the luggage incident, this time I'm missing a connection for what sounds like a personnel scheduling issue. We waited over 2 hours for a mechanic to sign off on a potential issue, and nobody showed up for a very long time.

As a result, I'm missing my Toronto connection. Looking at the available flights for the rest of the day, I think this means I'm missing my dad's 60th birthday dinner. Not cool, +*** . Really, not cool.

As an office treat to help ring in the new year, I made some red bean mochi cake with Mama Hsieh's help. Sharing the recipe here since a few people asked. It is actually really simple to make if you can manage to find all the ingredients.

Mochiko (sweet rice flour) - 1 package (1lb)
Sweet Red Bean Paste - 1 package or ~3 cups [**]
Milk - 2 1/2 cups
Sugar - 1 cup
Oil - 3/4 cup
Eggs - 3
Baking Powder - 1 tbsp
Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tbsp

** -- Ready-to-use packages of sweet red bean paste are pretty easily found in most Asian super markets. If you're not successful there you can make your own from scratch as we did here. Plenty of recipes are available online.

That said, I don't know of a substitute for Mochiko, which is crucial in this recipe. Where you can find Mochiko I'm sure sweet red bean paste is available too... Worst... more »

AIR TRAVEL RANT ALERT!

Due to long wait at immigration and security, I arrived at my gate 5 minutes before my flight was scheduled to depart. My bag was already on the plane. Instead of letting me board, Air Canada peeps decided to offload my bag, then shut the gate. Presumably they already gave my seat away to a stand-by and the plane was full. Fine.

Because that was the last flight of the night I had to rebook for tomorrow. They made me pay a $75 change fee. Fine.

What finally got to me though, is the fact that I've been waiting here for over 2.5 hours for my bag :'( I don't understand why. WTH. It didn't go anywhere. I know you already took it off the plane, because the plane already took off, so it better not be there. So, whyyyyyyyy. </rant>

This morning I started my day with a G+ search for "spam musubi rozier". Last week a post from +Joey Rozier inspired me to make beef bourguignon as a holiday treat for my parents, but realistically that's just not gonna happen given my noob status when it comes to cooking. So I opted for an easier option - spam musubi!

I'm a BIG fan of puzzle-solving adventure games. "*Escape the room*" is a wonderful sub-genre that I really enjoy. The premise is you are stuck in a room that appears to have no exit, since all doors and windows are locked. There are objects in the room that you can acquire, sometimes combine, or otherwise interact. Eventually, you figure out a way out.

Sadly there are some REALLY bad implementation of this type of point-and-click games that give them a bad rap. Imagine the frustration when you know you're supposed to click on this one item, but it's only one pixel wide and blends in with the background. Or the interface is too confusing. Or the graphic is just plain hideous.

#Machinarium  is easily one of the best games I've ever played. I absolutely LOVED the challenging puzzles found in every beautifully hand-drawn detailed scene over a great original soundtrack.

I'd give this game a 27 out of 30. I took 2 points off because I wished it was longer and 1 point off because I'd play it again but I already solved all the puzzles. Why did I use a 30-point scale? Very good question.
