We're excited about today's launch of code.org. Built around the vision that every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to code, code.org is raising awareness around the need for students to learn programming skills and the opportunities available to them when they do. Google supports widespread access to CS education and we hope this new site helps bring more awareness about the importance of computing.
Visit www.code.org to learn more and to sign a pledge of support for all students to have access to great computing classes.

Hybrid Terrestrial and Aerial Quadrotor
HyTAQ is a novel mobile robot capable of both aerial and terrestrial locomotion. Flight is achieved through a quadrotor configuration; four actuators provide the required thrust. Adding a rolling cage to the quadrotor makes terrestrial locomotion possible using the same actuator set and control system. Thus, neither the mass nor the system complexity is increased by inclusion of separate actuators for terrestrial and aerial locomotion.
During terrestrial locomotion, the robot only needs to overcome rolling resistance and consumes much less energy compared to the aerial mode. This solves one of the most vexing problems of quadrotors and rotorcraft in general — their short operation time. Experimental results show that the hybrid robot can travel a distance 4 times greater and operate almost 6 times longer than a a... more »

"The difference between IE and all other modern browser is that IE still has versions. Nobody gives a shit anymore about which Chrome or Firefox version you run, but with IE there is still IE10 which will be a painful legacy browser in 4 years, being the final version available for Windows 7 with 70% of computers in the world not eligible for automatic upgrade to a new version. It is sad that it is so easy to see the future."

I Controlled a Telepresence Robot with My Mind.
Simply by concentrating I was able to get a remote telepresence robot to move where I wanted, in a manner of speaking.
In the video below I demonstrate the use of an assembly of technologies that I put together that enables me to exert mind control over the telepresence robot that I have demonstrated previously (itself an assembly of a range of technologies). The key addition to the earlier assembly and demonstration of the remote telepresence robot (which can be found here: http://youtu.be/lJTU3fLoZuY) is the use of an Emotiv EPOC headset, which is able to sense, record, and transmit information concerning "brain waves" or EEG signals from my brain.
Using this I am able to direct my attention to particular areas of the computer screen and, by concentrating and training the Emotiv software to associate particular ... more »

This new technology is amazing. This is how mobile devices and computers fade into the background and we can just focus on living and being human
Touché: Enhancing Touch Interaction on Humans, Screens, Liquids, and Everyday Objects
Let's discuss the applications:
1) No more keyboards
2) Yet we may still need output devices or digital displays
3) No more keys
4) More efficient energy use (notice at end of video how lights dim as persons state changes to sleep)

Thanks to all the great feedback from the developer community, today we're previewing v1.1 of the Hangouts API in the developer sandbox. Highlights include:
1. Overlays you can statically fix to the screen, not just a person's face. It's now possible, for example, to create "lower third" effects (http://goo.gl/Fivm), borders, and captions like you see on news shows and live interviews.
2. Apps that can respond to facial movements in real-time. Now when participants tilt their head side-to-side, look right and left, or lean forwards and backwards, your app can react accordingly. You might decide to let participants' faces control gameplay, for instance.
3. A new way to keep high-activity apps in sync for all participants. Certain hangout apps (like games) need to respond to lots of actions from everyone in the room, all at once. (Think collaborative... more »

If you spin a hard-boiled egg in a pool of milk, the milk will wick up the sides of the egg and spray off at the egg's equator. Engineer Tadd Truscott, of Brigham Young University, along with Ken Langley and others, launched an investigation to figure out why this happens -- complete with a custom-built spinning apparatus, billiard balls and high speed video cameras.

Lux Ahoy might be the first HTML5 game that you'll actually enjoy!
A lot of HTML5 games are just technical demos for new browser capabilities or a new underlaying engine and you don't see that many that look and perform great + are actually fun to the point of being addictive.
Enter Lux Ahoy (http://bit.ly/HUTUZm) where two bitter rivals - a monster Luxamillion and an elephant Trunkford are fighting an epic war across the seven seas!
Animations were made in Flash, converted to spritesheets using Zoë (http://bit.ly/HoxCer) and implemented in HTML5 with jQuery, EaselJS (http://bit.ly/tP6J5b) and SoundJS (http://bit.ly/HdqG9p) with the help of Box2DWeb for physics (http://bit.ly/HYPZqe).

CIRCLE MANAGEMENT
---------------------------------------
+Margie Hearron pointed out earlier today that +Sharon Vaknin, an editor at CNET.com with over 12,500 followers, is struggling to filter the noise from her stream. And I want to help! =D
I have very carefully built my circles around a system that I am now going to share with you. This is my secret weapon to circle organization.
I'm a very visual person, so I worked really hard to make this slideshow to (hopefully) explain the process as clearly as I can.
May it inspire you to grow your circles to include a lively network of active people!!!
Many great thanks to all the early adopters who provided tips when I first joined last July! I'm standing on the shoulders of giants!

Basic Etiquette & Some Tips for Google+ users
How to Interact Well on Google+ I'm 'old enough' on Google+ to know what to do, but I can still remember being 'New Here' and my concerns about doing it 'right'.
Here are my basic suggestions for getting good at using Google+, mainly in how you interact with others. There are plenty of other posts on how to set things up for yourself... this one is about How to Interact Well on Google+.
The Dos - what is Good to do on Google+
1) When you like something, i.e. a comment someone made: +1 it.
Hitting the +1 on someone's comment is a good way of saying, "I Agree", "Got It", or "Good Job", etc. (BTW, it is OK to +1 your own stuff)
2) After you +1'ed something, if you want to engage more, then add a... more »

GPS Controlled Drones: Flying Front Machine Computers
The Pirate Bay, the internet’s most infamous torrent site, announced on its blog recently that it has decided to experiment with sending out small drones that will float some kilometers up in the air.
In the blog, it’s suggested that GPS controlled drones, combined with some radio equipment and tiny computers could make such a seemingly ridiculous plan possible. With modern radio transmitters they can get over 100Mbps per node up to 50km away. For the proxy system they are building, that’s more than enough.” The flying computers would be “front machines,” which are the computers The Pirate Bay uses to forward internet traffic on to it’s secret server locations. This way their machines will have to be shut down in the air in order to shut down the system.

G+ Experiment: The Results
Recently there has been a lot of reports out there on how Google plus is a ghost town.. In fact The Wall Street Journal in a recent article mentioned that Pinterest has more vibrancy than Google + ... All this because of some new data from research firm comScore Inc. that shows Google+ users are signing up, but they are not doing much there. I needed to show that this was not the case!
On March 7, 2012 LA Web Studio Marketing Team with the help of +PJ Rosenberg established a social media experiment to test the viral effect of popularity in G+ platform in comparison to Facebook.. A massive amount of work went on the back end to collect the data we wanted and a lot of emphasis went on tracking the re-sharing at multiple levels.
Below is the actual paragraphs that were posted on both social media platforms, (of course with a variation in... more »

Help Me With My G+ Experiment
Its a simple experiment to prove the viral effect of popularity in G+ platform is much higher in comparison to Facebook.. I am currently under 5,000 people who are following me on both platforms.. I have posted the same thing on both social media and am waiting results: I like as many people as possible to share this post with as many of their circle in the next 24 hours. Once you share it, please also add me to your circle. (You can call the circle temporary and delete it after the experiment.. I am not hunting for followers)
The conclusion will prove which platform can create a better social viral awareness.. At the end of the experiment I will do a Press Release with the names of all the people who made this experiment possible. Lets test the power of true social media!!
