The problem for both cameras, which are closely related to each other and share many parts, comes down to insufficient lubrication of the drive mechanism. Over time, this causes increased wear to the mechanism, and results in small particles being shed inside the camera body. These, in turn, can cause issues with the camera's autofocus system failing to achieve a focus lock. Eventually, the wear can also cause viewfinder issues as well. Once the problem reaches this point, Canon says that the viewfinder can appear blurry or unsteady.

Like the other services, Yahoo has combined criminal requests and FISA requests. Still hoping govt will let them divide out FISA for public's knowledge.

As reenactors twisted their bodies into various states of rigor mortis, tongues hanging out, eyes open, photographer David Rambow captured the scene using the same wet-plate collodium process that was used by photographers during the Civil War. It took about 45 minutes to take three photos, with eight second exposures for each image.

A new exhibit at Jerusalem's Israel Museum is reconsidering the careers of nearly 100 photographers of the black-and-white realm, but with an eye toward another shared characteristic. "Displaced Visions: Émigré Photographers of the 20th Century" will focus on the roles of these historic figures as immigrant artists, documenting their new homes in personal, captivating ways.

That absence of an independent tech check means both publications got the story wrong, as subsequent reporting by other journalists with experience in these topics has confirmed...If you don’t understand the technical workings of these surveillance programs, you can’t understand whether they’re working as intended, you can’t identify where the government has overstepped its bounds, and you can't intelligently debate the proper response. The fact that the government has maintained rigid secrecy compounds the problem.

This is how you lead. (Edited: Includes transcript!)
In a day when the US armed forces are under fire from all quarters for not responsibly dealing with soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines raping one another -- frequently, and with such impunity that the Senate is looking at a bill which would, essentially, strip responsibility for handling this from the chain of command -- it's stunning to see what real leadership can sound like.
Australia's military is facing something that's by comparison much smaller -- but Lt. Gen. Morrison, the Chief of the Army, has made his position on it absolutely clear. This is leadership.
If the US' senior chain of command were this explicit and direct, we would not be in the situation we are in now. Because things would never have been allowed to fall this far out of control.

Well, maybe.
The 35 millimeter camera takes one or two hours to build, and you're not going to want to rush through that process, particularly when dealing with film that can be accidentally exposed if the Konstruktor ends up with light leaks inside. But when finished you'll not only have the satisfaction of building it yourself, but also the smug sense of superiority that comes from embracing a dying medium when all your friends have long since moved onto digital.

Them white people need to have more kids. :P
The disparity was tiny — only about 12,000 — and was more than made up by a gain of 188,000 as a result of immigration from abroad. But the decrease for the year ending July 1, 2012, coupled with the fact that a majority of births in the United States are now to Hispanic, black and Asian mothers, is further evidence that white Americans will become a minority nationwide within about three decades.

Slowly, and largely under the radar, a growing number of local law enforcement agencies across the country have moved into what had previously been the domain of the F.B.I. and state crime labs — amassing their own DNA databases of potential suspects, some collected with the donors’ knowledge, and some without it.

The NSA Prism surveillance scandal has been good news for George Orwell, and in particular for his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, which was originally published in 1949. Sales of the centennial edition have risen by more than 7,000% on Amazon.com . Having been languishing at 13,074 in the list, it is now up to 193 and rising.

We therefore ask you to help make it possible for Google to publish in our Transparency Report aggregate numbers of national security requests, including FISA disclosures—in terms of both the number we receive and their scope. Google’s numbers would clearly show that our compliance with these requests falls far short of the claims being made. Google has nothing to hide.

Employment experts estimate that undergraduates work in more than one million internships a year, an estimated half of which are unpaid.

These intriguingly abstract images are part of a photo series called Naturally Modified — the brainchild of photographer Ajay Malghan. To create them, he shines colored lights through thin slices of fruits and vegetables onto light-sensitive paper. So what you end up seeing isn't a picture of the food itself, but an ethereal image of its shadow.

The incident was recording (audio available at the link, above) and Bieber can be heard shouting "Get that f*cking camera out of here!"

“Craft beer is really coming into its own as a really cool culture in America and we have seen it begin to develop here in Huntington,” McChesney said. “We hope that with this festival that the homebrewers and the people who love craft beer will have an opportunity to come out and really celebrate. The ultimate mission of the fest is to reinforce with the breweries from around the country and hopefully around the world, as well as the distributors, that there is a market for really good craft beer in Huntington, West Virginia. We are trying to be very deliberate about who we are bringing in and how we are bringing them so we can show them the economic opportunity here in Huntington.”

"Right around 2003, 2004, is when all of the medium-format pricing really started taking a hit," Murphy recalls. "It's gone down really substantially, probably about 70% or so." He cites a 500CM model with an A12 back and an 80mm lens that sold new for about $1,500 and can now be had for $400.

Conventional wisdom has it that you should keep the background in your photos out of focus to draw attention to the subject in the foreground. Generally that’s good advice, but sometimes you might want everything to be in sharp focus, from the foreground elements all the way to the distant background.

To what extent can images effectively combat injustice and social inequity? The American photographer Lewis Hine (1874–1940) offered an early answer to this question through his work. Trained as a teacher and sociologist, he ardently wished that Americans would become conscious of the injustice of American labor laws.
