So I founded MadeLoud back in 2007. Social was just starting to take off and the site never got with the times. Just today, we finally added social sharing to all of our pages. To my surprise, the site has already received more than 2,600 shares just on the homepage without sharing buttons. If analytics could be sexy this is it.  We're moving towards a world where we want to work as much data as possible.  If you can measure something, then with the right approach you can extract value out of it.  Analytics is even growing in sports as this article outlines.

This article is so good simply because it rings so true to me.  I didn't fair well in college simply because the subjects that were available to me were time wasters in my eyes.  I would go to class, but I would be staring at my watch to go home and get on the web to work on my startup.  

I still think the best digital lessons reside outside of the classroom, but a lot of companies still want that degree as a certificate saying that you're educated.  This simply isn't true and I've learned a lot more out of college pursuing and learning subjects that interest me which have given me enough leverage to build my career healthily. 

There are a lot of free resources on the web today to take you from novice to expert given that you have the passion, motivation, and focus.

For those that trade stocks and want to learn a little bit more on how to read charts and trends here is a good article.  Be careful though, trends and averages should always be taken with a grain of salt.  You're always still at to some degree at the mercy of the market.

Why are newspapers (print in general) in trouble?

This is my slide for a presentation next week to show the pace of media evolution.  The graph on the right comes via Alan D. Mutter, http://goo.gl/nUpC9 It shows who reads newspapers and what percentage of the population they represent.

I've added the numbers on the right (a summary of Alan's article).  Two astonishing realizations: 

1. 74% of newspapers reading is done by people who were born prior of 1968, a vast majority of that prior to 1947!

2. That number was 52% just three years ago!

If you are in the business of influence and you are still buying advertising in newspapers, who are you reaching and what are you really solving for?
