"Senior Labour party figures, including former leader Tony Blair and rival candidate Kendall, have this week warned that a win for Corbyn could have disastrous implications for the party."

Yes, it might actually give Labour supporters what they want.

The flower gardens in the park are at their best in summer, with far more flower species than I can put a name to. Not that I know that many. But this one is very obviously a lily of some kind.

Footpath to the Stumpery

This is the continuation of the footpath that goes from the flower garden behind the pond and over the stone bridge. It leads to a stumpery. This is a Victorian garden feature that the Golders Hill Park gardeners have brought back to enhance the wooded area that the path goes through. I'll share two photos that show more detail.

"Greed hinders our progress as a society"

And all societies. It has always been the resource hogs that make life poorer for the rest of us.

I'm going to explain, in simple terms, why raising the minimum wage DOES NOT hurt big business, but instead helps dramatically reduce poverty, and strengthen the middle-class:

One thing that I have learned long ago, and have especially learned this lately after moving from Los Angeles to New England, is that the bottom line is not affected much by hiring more employees, and offering them higher salaries. Higher wages, and more American workers = a better country for all.

In California, where we had 40 million people, the average grocery trip for me would cost over $100. There were usually 1 or 2 registers open, long lines, and maybe 3-4 other employees in the store. These were overcrowded establishments that were understaffed with minimum wage workers. Neither the staff, nor the customer "makes out," in these conditions; even if a few dollars are being saved. The only one(s) that enjoy this, and actually do "make out," are the ones at the top.

In New England, in similar grocery stores that offer HIGHER wages, in areas that have a considerably smaller population, there are ALWAYS many more employees than there was in California. I rarely wait in line because several registers are always open. So i will go into a store with maybe 20 customers at any given time, and over 20 employees working higher wages than the overcrowded stores in Los Angeles. Think about that for a second. Somehow, the rich CEOs in these stores are able to survive... Why is that?

The same could be said about fast food places like In-N-Out (which is sadly, not in New England). On an average visit to any major fast-food chain, there might be 2-4 employees making minimum wage; yet at In-N-Out, there is almost always an unusually high amount of workers, making an average salary of over $15 per hour. How are they able to survive if more employees and higher wages, "kill jobs?"

The answer is simple: greed hinders our progress as a society. In also creates the need for the ultra-wealthy in this country to make the story about fear (losing jobs), rather than income inequality. Many Americans are so afraid to go against big business, that they feel the only way for us to make it, is to accept that the ultra wealthy should make all of the wealth in this country. Perhaps someday that wealth will trickle down on us! Let me tell you, that's not wealthy trickling down...

Anyway, I'll break down some hypothetical numbers for you. I like discussing things in terms of numbers because as you review the numbers, you start making connections and understanding the truth, beyond value-laden statements based on the observers personal viewpoint.

Keep in mind that I have worked as a Marketing Director and business consultant for many years, and have been responsible for analyzing company profits, company budgets, sales forecasts, etc. With that in mind, here is a fairly easy example to review, and share with your conservative friends and family:

I am using a grocery store as an example: If 100 people spend an average of $100 in a store in 1 hour, that is $10,000 in sales for that store in 1 hour. Lets say the store has 20 employees, and pays them $15 an hour. Now, lets add taxes, health costs, and raise that figure to $30 an hour. Multiply that $30 an hour with 20 employees, and that equals to $600 an hour in labor costs.

Now subtract another 50% for goods, and 10% for other incurred costs, that leaves the store with $3600 in profits, per hour; which is $43, 200 per an average 12 hour day, and $1.2 million in profits for an average 30 day period. Keep in mind these are VERY conservative figures. Visit your local grocery store and review how many people come and go, and you will be surprised at how many leave per hour with several bags of groceries.

Now, starting over, most minimum wage workers are getting paid under $8 an hour, and don't have employer-paid healthcare... How is that right for those employees? How is that right for the customers of these establishments? Lastly, how is that right for America? Simple answer: It's not. So the question is, *why pay American workers so little, when the ultra-wealthy could still be ultra wealthy while paying them more?"

The ultra wealthy in this country control the dialog it seems; especially with people on the right; that are so concerned with Adam and Steve, or some woman having an abortion, at the sake of ensuring their own friends and family will make less, and have less enjoyment out of life. People often assume that raising the wages, or hiring more American workers will be the end of all jobs as we know it; and the simple fact is, this is not true at all. In fact, the more Americans that do well, the more we will spend, and create a wealthier country.

Wait a minute! If paying workers more, and hiring more Americans to do jobs that we are currently shipping over seas will help the workers, and keep everyone more wealthy than they are now, why would corporations fight that? Simple: because of power and greed. The stronger the middle-class, the more likely we are to participate in the political process; The more likely we are to elect politicians that serve our needs; keep are taxes fair, and benefit the average American.

So, keeping wages low has nothing to do with saving jobs, and everything to do with maintaining control over the people so that the ultra-wealthy can maintain their lifestyle. The right-wing politicians serve the ultra wealthy, and don't want you to worry about your brother Joe, or your Sister Maggie, who only make minimum wage, and can barely survive. Instead, they want to keep  your focus on some gay couple getting married, or someone having an abortion. They do this because they KNOW that they could NEVER win against progressives when it comes to real economic issues that affect every American. So get us all focused on various issues, and we fall in line and ignore the bigger, more important issue: Income inequality.___"Greed hinders our progress as a society"

And all societies. It has always been the resource hogs that make life poorer for the rest of us.

Wooden-Railed Bridge

Just one photo to share today. I took this back in mid-June as the summer was just getting hold and turning everything a deep green. Morden Hall Park is a lovely place for a walk with a camera. A small river, the Wandle, runs through it splitting and meandering back and forth through the fields and wooded places so it is crossed by many bridges.

Anyone still think the Tories are the good guys?

The Tories plan to kick 30,000 nurses out of Britain because they weren't born here. David Cameron’s new immigration laws mean workers recruited from outside the EU since 2011 who earn less than £35,000 a year after six years will have to go back to their countries of origin. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said: "This will cause NHS chaos."

Any hard disk tech wizards out there?

My secondary internal hard drive, a 1 TB Western Digital WD1002FAEX serial ATA device, is showing a maximum capacity of 931 GB with 81 GB of free space. The actual data on the device is 241 GB, as shown by selecting all contents, right-clicing and selecting Properties. The OS is Windows 7 SP 1.

So, by my calculations, 609 GB of space has gone missing (931 - 241 - 81).

This has crept up on me as I keep my photos on that drive and, until I checked, I could well believe that they'd add up to a large amount. But I'd moved them from that drive and the space is still missing. Backups are ongoing as I'm typing this. Should I worry about the drive malfunctioning, or is this some quirk of Windows, just losing track of what's there? If I copy everything from that drive to a backup and format it, will the lost space come back permanently? Or is the disk becoming unusable?

In decades of using and programming computers, I've never faced this problem before. Any help would be welcome. Thanks.___
