Myanmar was one of the most interesting places I've ever visited. Every aspect of life there is quite different than what we live here in the west and it was so much fun to meet so many kind people and see so much rich history.

Watching the sunset from the top of one of the thousands of stupas and pagodas in Bagan was just one of the special moments I experienced on my +Viking River Cruises Myanmar journey. Getting a chance to discover the country via river cruise ship was something new for me and relaxing in such luxury while exploring Myanmar was definitely a highlight of the year for me.

Thanks also to +Cathay Pacific Airways 國泰航空  for getting me there in style. Getting a bump to business class allowed me to arrive well rested and ready to seize the day :)

"Land of the Lost"

When I first saw this place, I was blown away with how prehistoric the scene in front of me looked. I was kind of expecting to see dinosaurs strutting about or pterodactyls flying in the sky. Even without the giant lizards in the canyon our whole Dream Photo Tours group stood perched on a cliff, mesmerized, transfixed.

Good thing we're doing it all over again next March for a Winter Iceland Photo Tour: http://dreamphototours.com/winter-iceland-photo-tour/

This time the waterfalls will be frozen, we'll be exploring ice caves, and we'll be in prime Aurora Borealis season.

Just when you think you've seen it all... Iceland once again proves to be one of the most incredible places on Earth for photographers, adventurers, and travellers. In a word... Iceland is Awesome!

One of the most unique places I have ever seen in my life is Plitvice Lakes National Park in beautiful Croatia.

The waterfalls are innumerable and seem to come from absolutely nowhere. It's not just the sights of the falls but the soothing sounds of the water streaming and cascading that makes Plitvice so amazing. This place is truly a natural wonder of the world.

Thanks to Plura Travel for making the trip so memorable. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Croatia now :-)

After another successful Iceland +Dream Photo Tours and one heck of a fun time on our +Fujifilm North America  & +ViewBug post tour adventure, I wrapped up the Iceland trip with a fun photo walk in Reykjavik.

We were all exhausted after a long two weeks of exploring the beautiful landscapes of Iceland, so this was the perfect way to wrap things up. We had great weather and an awesome turnout of both local and visiting photographers.

It was so nice to get the chance to connect with so many passionate photographers both on the walk and afterward when a bunch of us went out for drinks and dinner at a local brewpub. I feel like I made a lot of new friends and that's the best part of running these walks.

I'm putting together a blog post now about the tour, Viewbug adventure, and the photo walk... Stay tuned!

Chillin on the beach in Vik, Iceland on my awesome  - +Fujifilm +Dream Photo Tours  adventure with Ori Guttin and Erik Bjornard from +ViewBug

We had a crazy start to the trip yesterday as we faced gale force winds, sideways rain, sea spray that turned into snow, killer waves, zero visibility, and were sandblasted by black volcanic sand on the beach here in Vik. All in all, just another day in Iceland. ;-)

We were partially rained out today but looking forward to tomorrow's ice cave visit and our photo walk in Reykjvik on March 15.

Photo Walk details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1538152016482023/

Thanks to my good friend Dream Photo Tour leader +Patrick Di Fruscia for taking this fun shot!

This was just one of the special moments on last year's Jordan photo tour. We always go to a beautiful eco-lodge in the middle of the Dana Nature Reserve and have a chance to connect with the local Bedouin people and the stunning natural environment.

On this day, the group was blessed with a stunning sky at sunset and while the moment only lasted a few minutes, we were able to capture some wonderful memories.

That's what I love about photography, it's a mix of art, timing, planning, luck, talent, and hard work that all lead up to magical moments like this.

One of the best things about being a Fujifilm Global Ambassador is that I get a chance to work with some of the best new camera technology that is being developed today. The X-Pro2 that was just announced last week was accompanied by several other major announcements like this new 100mm-400mm that we've all been waiting for for some time. It's finally here and just in time!

I'm heading to Namibia next month and this bad boy should serve me quite nicely when it comes to photographing animals and some very unique nature and landscape scenes. The lens is a 35mm equivalent of a 152-609mm, has 5-stop image stabilization and is very well suited for handholding and tripod use. This lens is probably the most weather sealed lens in the Fujifilm Cameras lineup and when paired with the optional XF1.4X TC WR teleconverter, the lens turns into a 35mm-equivalent 213-853mm... WOW

One of my favourite things to do is to revisit special places and see them in a new way. This March, I'll be heading back to Iceland with +Patrick Di Fruscia  to run an epic Winter Iceland Photo Tour for Dream Photo Tours.

http://bit.ly/DreamIcelandWinter

Time to rediscover the beauty of Iceland during their winter wonderland season where we'll get to experience the magic of the Aurora Borealis, explore beautiful ice caves, discover frozen waterfalls, and photograph all kinds of stunning landscapes dusted with snow.

We are closing registration soon for this tour and we'd love to have you join us. :-)

After spending the last couple of weeks in the sub-tropical weather of Cambodia, it was a bit of a shock to be greeted by the cold December weather of home here in Canada.

The cold weather reminded me of the fact that I'll be heading to one of the coolest places on Earth this winter… Iceland!

This will be an exciting time for me and everyone joining us for the Winter Iceland Dream Photo Tour. While Iceland is spectacular at any time of year, the winter season offers the opportunities to explore and photograph many of the iconic Iceland locations blanketed in snow and covered in ice. We also photograph ice caves and have ample opportunities to capture the aurora borealis during one of the best times of year to do so.

Winner Announced in my ViewBug.com - Fujifilm X Series US Photo Contest

Check out the finalists: http://www.viewbug.com/contests/inspiring-places-photo-contest

I was amazed to get over 15,000 entries in this Inspiring Places photo contest, where we gave away a fantastic prize of a Fujifilm X-T1 camera kit valued at $1,500.00 USD.

As the only judge in this contest, the pressure was on me to come up with a worthy winner and I think I succeeded. What do you think?

Hey Photographers!

The all new software suite for photographers "Photo 10" from ON1, Inc. is now available. The great news is they offer a fully functioning 60-day trial, so you really have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

http://bit.ly/Photo10

I just downloaded my copy and will be reviewing the software later this year, once I'm done with my next trips to Jordan and Cambodia.

Each time On1 release a new version of their suite, there are multiple improvements and new features. In this latest version there are too many updates, tweaks, and new features to mention, so I'm glad that they made a video detailing all of what's new in Photo 10.

A New Way To License Your Photos

I spent many years in the stock photography business only to get so discouraged with it that I mostly gave up on traditional agencies like Getty and Corbis. Now there's a new way to license your photography.

I signed up for a premium account with ImageBrief and wanted to share some information with all my photographer and photo enthusiast friends about how you can earn money with your photos too.

They work directly with major brands and will not just license your images but also find you paying jobs and send you briefs about what images are being sought right now. How cool is that?

In my latest blog post, I share some details, instructional videos, and even an interview with ImageBrief CEO Simon Moss.

Enjoy and happy shooting!

My NEC MultiSync PA322UHD Review

After getting a new Mac Pro computer last year, it was time to get a new monitor too. I ended up with what may be the best monitor for photographers thanks to the advice of a friend and the folks at NEC.

The NEC MultiSync PA322UHD is a high-end 4k UHD display that is built for serious photographers, video editors, retouchers, and other professionals or avid amateurs. We spend a small fortune on all our camera gear in hopes that it will help us create better images. It only makes sense to have a display to edit and view those images on. Otherwise, it's like eating in a Michelin starred restaurant and ordering corn flakes. ;-)

What do you use as a computer monitor and what would be your top choice?

While I'm not going to Iceland this year for the first time in many years, I'm thrilled to be heading back in winter of 2016.

http://bit.ly/DreamIcelandWinter

One of my all-time favourite places to shoot is here at Jokulsarlon glacial bay and beach. The scene is never the same twice. Ice off all shapes, colours, and sizes continuously floats by and makes for a unique image each and every single time. Nature's own sculpture factory :-)

ALL NEW — ZEISS Milvus Lenses

OMG... This is awesome.

I can't wait to get my hands on some of these new Zeiss lenses.
Zeiss keeps knocking it out of the park with their lenses for all major camera brands like Fujifilm Sony, Nikon, and Canon. It seems that every few weeks they are announcing new lenses or, in this case, a whole series of amazing new lenses.

All the lenses are available for pre-order: http://bit.ly/ZEISS-MILVUS

I had a lot of fun a few a few weeks ago when I took some time to record an interview/podcast for the Pro Photographer Journey website.

We discussed equipment, the business of photography, travel, developing self-confidence, photo tours, and more.

It's probably easier to listen than to read my description of the podcast, so I'll stop right here and make another coffee. Hope you enjoy the interview :-)

Myanmar was a special place in so many different ways and a journey of discovery.

Not only was I amazed with what I was able to see and experience but I was inspired to step out of my comfort zone and rekindle my love of photographing people.

Want to see more? Check out my latest blog post for a series of photos of the children of Myanmar.

One of the tips I give to people who want to take better travel photos is to get up for sunrise to beat the crowds.

Even in very busy places like Piazzale Degli Uffizi in front of the world famous Uffizi Museum in Florence can be completely devoid of people at the crack of dawn. Well, maybe not completely devoid of people. You may find a photographer like me taking a selfie :-)

What a nice surprise to see this cool article on the Resource Magazine website about my new company Dream Photo Tours and my favourite camera... The Fujifilm X-T1 is always by my side these days as I travel around the world. Speaking of which, I'm heading back on the road next month for my first visit to Vietnam and later this year to run photo tours in Jordan and Cambodia.

http://dreamphototours.com/

I'm thrilled to have Fujifilm as the official sponsor of Dream Photo Tours. Not only do they make awesome cameras and lenses but they have a deep passion for photography and their photographers. Being one of only two Fujifilm Global Ambassadors in the world is a true honour for me. Check out the images in the article to see what a great team we make :-)

Serenity is the word that comes to mind when I think back to this moment in the Bamboo Forest in Kyoto. It was blissful listening to the sound of the wind knocking the trees together as I walked around looking for interesting angles to photograph. Yup, just the sound of the wind... And the dude with the gasoline powered leaf blower... Le sigh

I'm thrilled to be heading back to Japan next year to run a Dream Photo Tour. Pre-registration is now full, but you can sign up for our Japan Tour waiting list or check out the other tours we are running this year and next.

It is easy to fall in love with the world when the world has so many spectacular places to behold.

In Croatia, there is an abundance of these types of places. Two weeks was not nearly enough time to discover all of the wonders contained withing the borders of this stunning country, but I'm not complaining. In fact, I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to explore from Zagreb all the way down to Dubrovnik.

This photo was taken at Plitvice National Park at the beginning of our trip. The whole park is dotted with thousands of waterfalls and was a veritable feast for the eyes and ears. While the photo gives some idea of what Plitvice looks like, no image or words can do it justice. Being there to experience it first hand was a highlight of 2014. There is a beautiful energy at Plitvice. I hope you get the chance to visit one day.

If you've ever wondered how I am able to photograph some places that are off limits or usually full of people, then this article is for you.

I teamed up with my friends at +B and H in New York City to write this article about how I go about getting access to some of the awesome locations I shoot. There are tips on how to deal with security, how to get permission, timing, photographer's legal rights, and more.

How do you go about getting the shot? Share your tips in the comments of the article or here.

Hope this helps you the next time you want to get that photograph of the place you were told was off limits. :)

I can't believe that this is even up for a vote but it is.

Let's hope that the politicians do the right thing and vote to keep our rights to take and share photos. I can't believe that I just said I'm counting on politicians to do the right thing...

Happy Canada Day!

So excited to be heading back to one of the most beautiful places in Canada... Make that the world!

Banff National Park, here I come :-)

When I travel the world and meet people from other countries, this is usually the vision they have about Canada. Rugged mountains, crystal clear lakes, pristine forests, and unrivalled natural beauty as far as the eye can see.

You know, I like their vision of my country. I like it a whole lot :-)

To all my fellow Canadians, take a moment to reflect on just how lucky you are to live in such a beautiful country.

Wishing you all a wonderful and happy Canada Day.

Photographer Jason Sheldon takes issue with Taylor Swift's rather hypocritic stance in her open letter to Apple regarding the new Apple Music service's policy not to pay artists during the free three month trial that is being offered.

Seems to me that her letter was more of a publicity stunt conceived by Swift and Apple rather than a complaint. After all, who writes a letter of concern and condemnation and uses terms like "astronomically successful Apple" or "I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done" or "innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field" or "we admire and respect Apple so much"... Sounds more like an advert for Apple than an open letter condemning their policy of not paying artists.

Sounds more like an advert for Apple than an open letter condemning their policy of not paying artists.

If it was a publicity stunt, then bravo! Well done. That's creative marketing strategy. Regardless of whether it was or not, Swift's policies for photographers shooting her shows is now in the spotlight and she needs to address the fact that she is doing the same thing that she is condemning. Even worse, in the contract that she makes photographers sign before photographing her concerts, it states that the photographer can only license images a single time in one named publication, never use them again, and she would be allowed to use them for non commercial (i.e.: publicity) use for all eternity, without having to compensate the photographer. The contract also threatens the destruction of photographers equipment (including but not limited to cell phones, memory cards, etc) if they breach the agreement.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.___

What a great way to end my trip to Myanmar and Thailand...

New blog post: http://bit.ly/Well-Travelled

Spending a quiet evening in Bangkok photographing temples was quite the contrast to the evening before. On the previous night, I spent my birthday out on to town and somehow ended up in a tiny Japanese pub with a live Rastafarian Reggae band playing. And then the police raided the joint. But that's a story for another time ;-)

What's a #LifeWellTravelled if you don't have a little excitement once in a while?

Some sunsets are nice, some incredible, and some are impossible to describe even with a photograph.

This sunset in Dubrovnik in Croatia started off slowly but turned into one of the most dazzling displays of colour that I have seen in years. The colors are so bright and vivid that it makes it hard to show what it really looked like in a photo. It’s almost too much colour and looks unreal but I promise you that this is how the sky really looked.

Five minutes after taking this photograph from the fortified walls that surround the old city of Dubrovnik, security guards came to get us to leave as access to the walls ends just around sunset. Not a happy coincidence for a photographer.

My heartfelt thanks go to Daniel at Plura Travel for making my trip to Croatia as awesome as it was. If you're looking for an amazing Croatia travel experience contact Daniel for all the helpy... more »

What a beautiful and kind people the Burmese are. I'm truly taken with their sincere smiles and friendly disposition. They are genuinely happy to see us and take the time to talk with us and share a laugh and a smile.

Looking forward to what tomorrow brings!

This time they focused on the story behind the photo and how the images I shoot have deeper meaning for me. They touch on the importance of image editing, the experiences that surround the photographs, how the people that join me on my photo tours inspire me, and how I try to make the images that I create an homage to the places that I travel to.

It is quite an honour to have one article about be on the Microsoft blog and I'm thrilled that they saw fit to publish a second story. I had a lot of fun talking with them and they did an awesome job conveying what I said and meant in a very eloquent way.

Hope you enjoy the article... Have a great start to the week :-)

I had a lot of fun judging the Explore the Elements photo contest from Thomas Cook UK and the winners were announced yesterday.

I was the judge for the Water category and was instantly drawn to the photo by Marius Vieth seen in the link here.

For all the winning photos fro the categories of Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, as well as the grand prize winner of the £5000 travel fund, check out my blog post.

Thanks to everyone who entered... And congrats to all our worthy winners :-)

No matter how much I travel, I always have a wish list of places to visit that make my imagination run wild. Myanmar is certainly one of the top 3 places in the world that I want to see and experience right now and I feel like the universe was listening now that it is happening!

For so long this country is been closed off to the west and while I wish I could have gone several years ago before any western influence had touched Myanmar, I'm thrilled that I'm getting the chance to visit in April.

Have you been to Burma/Myanmar?
What was your favourite part?

One of the most unique places I have ever seen in my life is Plitvice Lakes National Park in beautiful Croatia.

The waterfalls are innumerable and seem to come from absolutely nowhere. It's not just the sights of the falls but the soothing sounds of the water streaming and cascading that makes Plitvice so amazing. This place is truly a natural wonder of the world.

Thanks to Plura Travel for making the trip so memorable. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Croatia now :-)

It was a nice surprise to have Microsoft reach out to me for an interview that they shared on their blog this week.

It was sincere pleasure to have a frank discussion about the state of photography as business today, the necessity of good branding, taking chances, and one of my favourite topics... Photography tours :-)

It was only a matter time. Google+ has been disintegrating as a total unit but some of the features sure are worth salvaging and re-purposing. Good move by Google if they do this.
