Amazing story of how Tumblr was built. Really hits me deep as a product guy and an entrepreneur (former entrepreneur?). I love the story of passion and also the story of finding a balance -- in business and product focus, and in vision and technical feasibility.

If I've learnt anything from this whole Google Reader fiasco, it's that most journalists will happily abuse their media power when an event affects them personally. Had this been any other marginal Google product, I doubt the level of passionate headlines would have nearly penetrated the media so effortlessly.

Cafe bans Google Glass, first of wave of hysteria?

This is quite interesting really. I think if you went back a few years and suggested that every phone had a high-resolution camera then they'd be all sorts of privacy/perv concerns. The smartphone market even seemed to acknowledge it for a time. Remember when phones all made a large false shutter sound when you took a photo which you couldn't turn off or down? That seems to have gone away.

So now people are getting hysterical about the idea of cameras being stealthily attached to comedy Geordi-carburetor-glasses? If we unpack this a little, clearly people aren't upset about the Mark I Human Eyeball. So people are getting upset about their privacy  in so much as they are concerned that a set of people will have access to images and video footage of them in a public place which is beyond the people they are aware of... more »

According to a source close to LivingSocial employees, several members of their sales team did not receive paychecks for three weeks prior to the investment and were just able to recently get paid once the $110 million went through. This seems to corroborate PrivCo’s statement that the company was on the verge of bankruptcy (within days of it) before the recent injection of cash.

When I was still living in DC I wanted to work for LivingSocial. Seems like not getting that job helped me dodge a bullet.
