This was the very last exposure I took during our recent +The Giving Lens  Peru workshop. On the long drive from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, our driver pulled over to let his tired passengers use the restroom. Well imagine how excited we were to see the bright Milky Way right over our heads. 

Diego Prado was our certified light painter, and in this shot, I caught him hanging on the sidelines after doing yet another fine job of painting the wooden overhang.

I Survived Huaynapicchu

Machu Picchu (that tiny old town way behind me) never looked so small! If you go to Machu Picchu, you have to do this hike. Despite climbing 1300 stairs straight up while holding on for dear life on an Iron "hand rail" thousands of feet above the ground, it actually isn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. 

I am SO proud of our +The Giving Lens  participants who went the extra mile this week. Despite long, exhausting days, the team was always upbeat, carefree, and fun! I miss them already. :(

One more day in Cusco, doing some work, before the long travel day home tomorrow.

"Huaynapicchu"

This is one of the best view in the world. At more than 1,000 feet above Machu Picchu sits Huaynapicchu. Most everyone has seen it. It is the iconic peak that sits behind Machu Picchu in the postcard photos. You know, the one that looks impossible to climb. Well, it isn't. Difficult, yes. Not for the faint of heart? Sure. But well worth every second when you lift yourself up that last cluster of rocks to the lowest terrace.

Then the real fun and adventure begin. The stairs of death, a tunnel to shimmy through, and walking on edges thousands of feet high. Yup. This was indeed the most perfect way to end the The Giving Lens Peru workshop.

Tomorrow, everyone flies to their homes. This trip was incredible, and the people i spent the week with will be my friends for life. Thank you for the laughs, the adventure and most of all, just being your... more »

Dog On A Roof - Oropesa, Peru

+The Giving Lens Peru team had such a fun time walking through the streets of Oropesa, Peru with their students from +Picaflor House. Since +Kate Siobhan Havercroft and I have been so busy working with the TGL participants and Picaflor students, I haven't taken nearly as many photos as I normally would on a trip. But I did manage to find this adorable little guy on a roof. Yes, he is on a roof and there is about a 15 foot edge right there. But don't worry, he had a way to get back into his house from the other side :)

TGL Peru - Day One

After a hearty breakfast and coffee, the TGL Peru team packed up all of their camera gear and set out to explore the amazingly photogenic city of Cusco, Peru. From old, character filled wooden doors, to baby sheep, this city has a ton to offer our photographers while rambling down the narrow cobblestone roads. 

The afternoon led us to the real reason why the team is here. To help introduce photography to the children of +Picaflor House. After some introductions and a short performance by the children, The Giving Lens team members separated into groups and handed out the many cameras that were generously donated. The children's eyes lit up as they ran around the large play area, learning the basics of photographing flowers, people, and of course, group jumps! Cusco - Go Pro Style - Cusco, Peru

Well, we made it! +Kate Siobhan Havercroft and myself arrived in Cusco this afternoon for a day of preperation before +The Giving Lens Team arrives tomorrow! 

This is by far my favorite approach out of any airport I have ever flown into. You do what feels like 720 of hard turns before all of a sudden hitting the runway. It's FUN! 

On the short 75 minute flight, I suctioned my GoPro Hero 3 to the window and set it up to take a photo every 10 seconds. It will make for an awesome timelapse. Until then, enjoy one of the frames. I hope the clouds stay like this all week.

Behind The Screens - Horseshoe Bend Sunset

This scene isn't as peaceful as it looks. To be honest, it was pretty hair raising standing on the edge of this massive cliff with 40mph wind gusts.

Thankfully my trusty Think Tank backpack weighed like 30 pounds and I was able to hook it onto my tripod, preventing an almost certain death of all my Canon gear.

"Light In Canyon X"

I did a quick edit on this photo from yesterday's adventure through Canyon X with +Colby Brown +Peyton Hale and +Casey McCallister. This, and most of my photos in the canyons so far, need only very basic Lightroom adjustments because the best part of shooting in this light and perfect limestone is that Mother Nature does all the work for you.

On The Road Again, I Can't Wait To Get On The Road Again

Well, +Casey McCallister and I did it again. We got in a car and drove. And drove. In fact we are still driving. We were gonna shoot stars over the Grand Canyon tonight, but +Peyton Hale had to be the fun killer and tell me about the route between the GC and Page being closed. So now, we are backtracking, going to Vegas...and...who am I kidding, we will probably spend the night at a Craps table in Excalibur. 

I took this tonight as the sun set over some train tracks in the middle of nowhere, California.

Moonrise Kingdom

Here's a new photo I took a few evenings ago under a bright rising moon.  Maybe you can see the moon-shadow of the cliff on the water there.  I think I want to be here always, a secret beach bathed in starlight.

Today I am driving up to the +SmugMug HQ to give a speech this afternoon. (Don't know what SmugMug is?
