I might just have to go to DC to put my hands around the neck of +Alexander Angelides who has challenged me to a weight loss duel. Little did I know that I would have to give up the things I love most for 5-7 days. That's right vegetables. People, I had to give up vegetables!!!! He's turned me into a carnivore overnight and as I'm sure most men would find that attractive in a woman, it's really not a cute look on me. I found myself lusting over the bf's salad at lunch.

Today is crap! I have never in my life craved chocolate until today! To top it off my stream has been trolling me all day with news of the memes. Say it ain't so!!!!

Oh well tomorrow's a new day and I'm sure I'll be thanking Alex in the end.

Album Theme: Mountains

I have arranged the images in my album so that first 15-20 photographs in my album features Mountainscapes. While going through my album I realized that my most commented and recognizable photographs is also the least share (because I had disabled sharing). So here it is...

Mountains have ability to create dramatic light, but they are tough to shoot because of the dynamic range and uneven terrain (use of GND filters is a challenge). Here is a short tutorial on how to deal with dynamic range:

Joining +The Good Stuff Project with this image!

It was this stunning view that made me move where I live now. It's not so far to walk there from my apartment, and it's beautiful in every season. These white flowers on the bushes are there only a few days every year in the spring, I didn't know that but I happened to go there when they were in bloom, and I was immediately spellbound.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original photo any longer... :-( It was deleted in the era when digital cameras were small, their memory cards even smaller (256 MB's), and the computer memory, well, you guessed right: was minimal (we're talking MB's there too), so I reduced all images to like 15-30 KB's at most, and deleted the original "huge" ones, which with todays measures were really small, around 2 MB's....

I spent a wonderful day yesterday photographing Snowy Owls. The Snowy Owl is one of the largest species of owl and in North America is one of the heaviest of the owl species. Young owls, especially males, get whiter as they get older. Females are darker than males, with dusky spotting, and never become totally white. Some elderly males do become completely white, though many retain small flecks of dusky plumage. These magnificent owls sometimes remain year-round in their northern breeding grounds, but they are frequent migrants to Canada, the northern United States, Europe, and Asia. Lemming availability may determine the extent of southern migration, when owls take up summer or even winter residence on open fields, marshes, and beaches.

Early Light on Hāmoa - Hāmoa Beach, Hāna, Maui, Hawai'i
"The most South Pacific beach not in the South Pacific" , exclaimed Mark Twain. This golden stretch of island was also favorited (+1ʻd) by Earnest Hemingway, and James Michener. I had the blessing to rejuvenate my soul in this spot during the weekend. I come to this place often, but my goal was to see everything differently this time. We, as photographers, have the luxury of "seeing" in different ways. I have never in my life seen this famous beach photographed as is it shown here. The mood is less tropical and more dramatic -- less of a postcard, and more of a canvas.

I remember the first time I read that line, I was feeling pretty down. Why? Well because sometimes we just feel down. We are humans... some mornings we feel like we look good.... other mornings we look good, but we just feel like nothing is working. Don't worry, that's part of life and it's up and downs. Now, referring back to the subject, yea... I was feeling pretty down and I read that line.. again and again... and the more I read the more sense it made.

Canadian man enters U.S. by showing passport on iPad

TORONTO (AP) – A Canadian man who realized he forgot his passport as he approached the U.S. border found a new way to gain entry — his iPad.

Martin Reisch said Tuesday a slightly annoyed U.S. border officer let him cross into the United States from Quebec after he presented a scanned copy of his passport on his Apple iPad. Reisch was a half hour from the border when he decided to try to gain entry rather than turn back and make a two-hour trek back home to Montreal to fetch his passport.

He told the officer he was heading to the U.S. to drop off Christmas gifts for his friend's kids. He said that true story, the scanned passport and his driver's license helped him get through last week.
