Justin Hill22,601114 HDR Photographers :- Here's my second circle share for the weekend. I have two circles for photographers and this is my second which concentrates on those that indulge in HDR photography. Some in this circle use the technique all the time and others only once in a while. Each and every one of them is a great photographer in their own right which is why I added them and created this circle carefully over time. You won't see much overblown HDR here, they are all very good at what they do and their images prove it. Once again this circle was put together by me and all within it were hand picked due to my likes and preferences. If I have left you out then I am sorry but I simply cannot put everyone I see in a circle so i have been deliberately selective.  Please feel free to add them all to your own circles or pick your way through and select just a few. By all means share if you so wish. Enjoy...2013-10-13 20:19:15114202CC G+
Thomas Hawk6,146,1772500 Kick Ass Google+ Photographers (part 3 of 5)This is the fifth time I've shared my photographer's circle on Google+.  I'm going to share it in 5 posts.  Last week I shared last name A-Da, and Da-Ho.  Today's , part 3 of 5, today, represents Ho-Mi.  I'll share the remaining two tomorrow and Thursday.  I originally shared my photographers circle at 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 photographers.  I'll probably share it again eventually when it gets to 3,000.A few notes about this circle. The criteria that I look for (and don't always get right) in this circle is that the photographer produce interesting and engaging photography.  I also look for people who are active in the community, post mostly their own work, and post regularly.  I'm looking more for people who post their own work and less of the noise stuff (gifs, links, non-photography, promotions, etc.).  I also like people who are positive, friendly, nice, helpful, etc. and dislike people who are mean, snarky, jerks, disrespectful, etc.I have a pretty well known bias against signatures and watermarks.  You will see very few photographers in my circles who use them.  I really hate the watermark debate and would rather not have it with folks.  I just don't like them -- it's my circle that I have to look at.  There are likely a few folks in here who use them who are friends of mine, but for the most part, this is a pretty watermark free circle.  It's totally cool if you love your watermark, it's just not something I really want to look at.  Please don't hate me for my aesthetic preference.  Finally, the photography community on Google+ is probably the best one on the internet today.  There is no way that I can possibly include all of the fine photographers worth following on G+.  There are wayyyyy too many.  These are just 2,500 that I personally have noticed.  I'm sure I left out some really amazing ones -- like you if you are not in this circle :)  I'll probably also totally kick myself when I realize that I accidentally left out a really obvious good one who may even be a friend of mine -- again, maybe even like you.  :)Stay tuned for parts 4 and 5 and thanks again to all of the great photographers on G+ who make this place such a delight to hang out.Part 1-5:  http://goo.gl/17ujpnPart 2-5:  http://goo.gl/3vn0OC*Note, Google Circles are terribly wonky.  It wouldn't let me add some photographers in my circle into these circles because of "domain errors."  If this affected you, sorry about that.2013-09-03 18:49:364857231117CC G+
Gerard van Schip14,940Earlier I shared the top 100 profiles in Japan according to +CircleCount . This is the same circle minus people that only post in Japanese. Interesting enough that still leaves 78 people.I guess the message there is post in English if you want to engage in a large audience. The top profiles that posted in Japanese only were pop stars so no big loss in my books ;) #japan   #english   #circleshare  2013-08-26 07:03:3678024CC G+

Charles Lupica60,136►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄         Top 500 most followed photographers          ►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄Once again it's time to share my circle of the top 500 most followed photographers.  I'm sharing the circle here but I posted the the full list as a series of posts on +Most Followed Photographers on G+. Photographers with an " * " in front of their name are not included in the numbered count because they only share outside content,  their content is content suitable to a blog and usually has no images associated with it, or they have become mostly or completely inactive on G+.This list was complied from two previous lists and a line-by-line search of CircleCount.  If you know of someone that should have been on the list and isn't, the most likely cause is that their +CircleCount profile doesn't include the word photographer, or camera, photo, or foto. Or, I had a senior moment and missed them.  I thought I had avoided that this time but I still managed to miss +Magnus Ericson should should be around 454. I noticed some interesting things when compiling this circle.  There are a lot of people that moved into the top 500 that abandoned G+ for some reason or their interaction has become one post a month.  I have also noticed that many of the photographers in this group have a lower follower count than they had 6 weeks to 8 weeks ago.  I'm not sure what conclusion can be drawn from this but I find it very curious. To view the lists please see the following links.001 to 080: http://goo.gl/mmr7w  4'431'409 - 55771081 to 160: http://goo.gl/mXuup  55368 - 37454161 to 240: http://goo.gl/rLmy1  37343 - 30457241 to 320: http://goo.gl/o06Hy  30131 -25785321 to 390: http://goo.gl/747Lf  25760 -23013390 to 450: http://goo.gl/xDc2D  23006 - 21347450 to 510: http://goo.gl/sEnac  21321 - 194402013-02-23 23:33:1450013641100CC G+
David Billa637This is a continuation of +Gerard van Schip's suggested project, where I share a circle of the 100 Google Plussers that Google deems by its ranking to be most relevant to me. If you like me, you should like these awesome dudes, although there are many that missed out on this list that are a bit of a mystery to me. Anyway, if you are looking for more people on Google Plus to follow that are awesome, and dig my stuff, you should like these people. Check it out. The project is for others to do the same - create a circle of your 100 most relevant users, so go ahead and try it yourself!2013-01-29 12:21:39100812CC G+

Jeff Sullivan1,152,722Most-Followed 500 Photographers CircleWhile a circle like this has the obvious drawback of missing some excellent photographers newer to the site, Charles often follows up his Top 500 Most Followed Photographer circle with circles going all the way down to photographers with less than 5000 contacts.  Here are four circles Charles has created to help us discover and recognize photographers at all levels within the G+ community:Under 5000 -    Under 7500 -    Under 15,000 - 500 Most Followed Photographers - (here)I like to interact with people who are active in photography... share at least a photo or two of their own original work per week, so I'll slowly whittle the circle down to a stream of excellent photography (I've started, but may not finish for a few weeks).---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+Charles Lupica  Charles Lupica Dec 25, 2012 (edited)  -  Public►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄         Top 500 most followed photographers list                   circle of 500             and Group 6: 421 to 500►►►►►►►═════════════════════◄◄◄◄◄◄◄If you're not in this circle and you think you should be, I'm sorry.  I have missed a few people by pure accident.  My methods are entirely manual and I do miss people.  I have checked every profile and I have included only those people that share their own work, and share it on G+. Bloggers and people doing mostly reshares weren't included. Some big name photographers that don't share a lot of their own work were included - sorry for the double standard. Here is the 6th and last part  of my list of the top 500 most followed photographers - Here are links to the previous parts of the list.Group 1: http://tinyurl.com/cf58vws - 1 to 100Group 2: http://tinyurl.com/bodaspk - 101 to 193Group 3: http://tinyurl.com/bsb87u4 - 194 to 250 and circleGroup 4: http://tinyurl.com/d4ulv6q  - 250 to 340Group 5: http://tinyurl.com/cjpmgy4 - 341 to 420 Group 6: 421 to 500 and circle of 500 (this post)If you are on this list, I urge you to comment, plus and share the post. I have sifted through lots of pages and circles as well as http://circlecount.com/  to try to get an accurate list. If I'm missing anyone, please let me know.  I have specifically left off a few people who only share links to their content housed elsewhere,  people who share a lot of other people's work without sharing their own, or people that appear to be inactive. The rank numbers are off by 1 because I included the same person twice in an earlier list.#Top500CircleDec   #circleshare   #circlesharing   #sharedcircles   #sharedpubliccircles  420 +Jennifer Luzio 21797421 +Matt Suess 21794422 +2013-01-07 15:33:25500221451CC G+

They also have "more photos, less spam." There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity).Be sure to get all 14 circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to August 15th for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting August 1st.)I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at: https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about2012-08-18 11:00:4341411211CC G+

I mean, you've seen circles for "Most interactive photographers", The Kick Ass Photographers", "The Inspirational Photographers", "The best Nature and Wildlife Photographers", and the list goes on.This post contains a list and a circle. The circle contains the 500 most followed photographers with less than 60'000 followers.  The list is a list of photographers that have more than 60'000 followers.  Most people on the list have over 1 million followers because they are on the G+ list of suggested users (commonly referred to as the SUL).  But who are the most followed ? Here is an updated version of a circle  I shared a few months back. I have tried to find all of the top photographers and add them to this circle. Obviously the last 50 places probably change daily so this is the list as I checked it before sharing. The number of followers needed to be on the list has changed a lot over the last 4 months.  Back in February you needed  13'117 followers, in mid-June that number is around 17'200. Why is this circle of interest ? Well, because it wasn't chosen by me or any other individual. It was chosen by the G+ community. Some of the people in the circle are great photographers, some are great at being interactive, some are just plain good at marketing themselves, and many have a combination of the above. But, in the end, the G+ community has chosen them as the top 550 photographers to follow.• Why is xxxx not on the list ?  Photographers that haven't been active on G+ for more than 6 weeks weren't included.  Several photographers that only post sporadically and generally less than one post a month aren't included• If you find someone on the list that you don't really think is a photographer, send me an email and / or a private post and I'll look into removing them or leave a comment below.• If you know of someone that I missed that has more than 17'200 followers, let me know and I'll add them to the list for next time.• You could call this the User's Choice Award circle because people on G+ have chosen to follow the people in this list and circle. Why share this circle ? Photographers were among the first people to embrace G+. Over the last few months I have seen photographers add significant numbers of followers and fall in over all standings. Wordy people and celebrities are overtaking photographers. +Trey Ratcliff +Thomas Hawk and +Lisa Bettany are the only photographer2012-06-14 13:42:29500244215241CC G+
Thomas Hawk2,473,6682,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 2 of 4 (Ev-La)Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev) here:  http://goo.gl/Z333gThis is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle.  I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers.  I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit.  Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle.  Today is the second circle and includes photographers with the last name's Ev-La. A few notes about these circles.  I always get hated on when I share them by people.  Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out.  This is not intentional or personal.  This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world.  It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer.  This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work.  In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc.  Many of these people are or have become my friends.  Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know.  They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends.  :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too.  This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day.  My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours.  This is ok.  Art is subjective.  That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1.  I like people who are active on G+.  If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle.  I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2.  I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs.  I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle.  Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle.  I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream.  I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation.  I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3.  *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks.  You will find photographers in my circle that use them.  It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule.  I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible.  I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures.  I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them.  Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue.  It's just a personal preference and bias.4.  I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members.  I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc.  If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you.  I'm fine with debate and disagreement.  It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior.  Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably block you too.  I want to surround myself with positive uplifting people. 5.  I like people who directly post t2012-06-05 16:20:03500151110311CC G+

Gailen Mapes7,435Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Canon Camera L-Q - 4 of 14Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. I have had to split some circles because they exceeded 500 members. My last share of the "hand picked" circles was March 22. As before these circles are photographers that I admire. They also have "more photos, less spam." There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity).Be sure to get all 14 circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to March 29 for this set.A word about spam... A lot of previously good photographers are sharing a lot of goofy stuff these days. Remember, if you are in the "Hand Picked" circles, you are represented as "more photos, less spam." Goofy animated GIFs don't hack it and I reserve the right to drop you from these circles. So if you were dropped, this is probably the reason. (I have the same 5000 limit as everyone else. I can't afford to keep spammers in my circles.)2012-03-29 20:05:1741510610CC G+

Kevin Dunseath0I was recently asked if G+ had fizzled- a question that gets asked a lot, and I answered that for me, it's done nothing of the sort. I think it all comes down to who you have circled, so I'm going to do what I have never done before, and that's share a circle. Here's my one of my photography circles. The people in here range from people everyone has heard of, to a few maybe fewer people have. From street photography to HDR, from Scottish landscape to rock and roll portrait. From tips and techniques, to gear, and everything in between. These people keep my stream bubbling with images so fantastic, that the concept of G+ fizzling has never once entered my mind. I hope you will enjoy their work as much as I do.And here´s an interesting article on Street Photography by Dave Beckerman:http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/street-photography-tips-and-techniques/As you can see there are many ways to define "street", and many ways to do street photography. Don´t try too hard to follow any rules you may be uncomfortable with, just go out there, open your eyes and have fun.Oh, and as I´ve only said it twice today here´s another HAPPY ST. ~Issa

Once a week on my blog (well, ideally... When I am on schedule) I go through my 7+ year blog archive and I repost an old photo. A couple of reasons... 1) It gets me to reformat these old posts. Some of my old posts are formatted pretty badly. 2) It uncovers some old photos current readers of my blog may have never seen.

This one is interesting. I see when I edited it way back when I added a slight blur to everything, going for a glow effect. Looking at the raw, it is a sharp image, but looking at this edit it looks too soft to me and that kind of bugs me. Hmmm.

Things like this make me understand George Lucas. I wouldn't do what he did -- go back and replace photos I edited a while ago. I have to trust that the old me had good taste, even if it is different than mycur... more »

A lone plum blossom, one of the first of the season from a few years ago.

Japan loves the cherry blossoms the most, and one can see why -- it's usually warmer, for one, as the cherry blossoms are around April but the plum blossoms are around February -- but for my money, the plum blossoms are best. They have a delightfully sweet fragrance, the flower itself is lovelier, and it is often less busy outside to see them.

Chrome Help!

Long ago I switched from Safari to Chrome. In theory I like Safari better, but in practice it just hasn't worked very well for awhile. I love Apple, but they have spread themselves too thin. Need a new product category? Screw that -- they need to focus on what they have.

But I digress. Recently Chrome stopped allowing me to install extensions, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. I click to install an extension, and it gives me an error:

net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I have searched the forums for help but can find no definitive help on this issue, only other people who have the same problem and also can't figure it out. I've unstalled Chrome, using appzapper to get rid of every little bit of the app, and reinstalled but still have this problem.

The problem may have started when I upgraded to Mavricks.So... more »

Just Dropping in

Some weeping cherry blossoms today, shidarezakura (枝垂桜), of type edohigan (江戸彼岸) I think. (I'm far from a flower person, but I learn a little more every year in conversations with other sakura watchers).

I've been told this tree is a few hundred years old. The sakura on it only lasted a day or two before rain knocked them all down. Lucky I made it there in that time.

Soaking Up The Light

More of the Kawazu Cherry Blossoms, this one a close-up. I normally rotate my photos, posting them in a random order. But the last 3 sakura photos I've uploaded to Flickr have made Explore, so hey, who am I to ignore what is obviously popular right now.

To keep things interesting, I bumped up the highlights to blowout levels and added a texture.

Enter the Sakura

The Kawazu Cherry Blossoms are 100% full and they are hungry! Be careful!

Enter Spring

Happy Vernal Equinox Day, everyone. It's the first day of spring, and a holiday here in japan, so many are out and enjoying the kawazu cherry blossoms. It's crazy windy outside, so this may be one of the last days of them too.

A Jog Beneath the Blossoms

Another shot of the Kawazu Cherry blossoms. They line the top of the river levee like this for at least 200 or so yards. There is a sidewalk at the bottom (as you can see in the photo) where you can walk or jog, enjoying them from below.

My Mind is Going

HAL: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
Dave Bowman: Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me.
HAL: It's called "Daisy."
[sings while slowing down]
HAL: Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

Plus One Collection III

Every year +Ivan Makarov and +Andy Lee put together a collection of some of the best photos on Google+ for a worthy cause. This year's charity is The Samburu Project, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides access to safe, clean and drinking water to communities in Kenya. More here: http://goo.gl/CD2sZB

The theme is "Our World", and this is my submission: Gate of the War God

If you want to get involved, you can, but you better hurry -- you have until tomorrow (march 17th) to submit your photo. Details here: http://goo.gl/BQb1OF

It's What's On the Inside That Counts

As I mentioned in yesterday, things have been a bit crazy for the past few months. I could take photos, but I rarely had time to actually load them onto my computer. Craziness.

Luckily, I have an iPhone which not only is always with me, but on which I can process images. So these past few months I dusted off my #olloclip  and have been doing much more with it. The macro lens on it isn't the easiest to use, but it is surprisingly good when you can get it lined up just right.

This is one of the variety of #plumblossoms  that started coming out a few weeks ago. There is a shrine nearby that has dozens of trees, all different types. This one is actually a bright pinkish-red, but I reduced the saturation a little with #vscocam .

I hope to someday be more consistent in my online presence again. Is it March already? Man, I was doing so well towards the end of last year, then my son started a new fussy phase, work got busier, and seems like I couldn't even touch my computer till now.

Whew.

Ok, back for now, anyway. Maybe. Till next time I drop off the planet for a few months. :)

I Want to Be Big

about this photo: http://japandave.com/2013/10/want-big/

I'm posting this from my iPad. I figure if I can start using my iPad for g+ maybe I can post more often. I love the G+ app. Wish I could pick the photo album this is added to though.

It Begins

The autumn leave photos I’ve been posting have been from years past. Here in Okazaki Japan we haven’t seen a ton of change yet. Very sunny areas have changed, but most have not. But that is finally starting to change.
