Scott Jarvie427,402*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00143

Iceland - first impressions after 3 days

There are places I will avoid in the future: Gullfoss, Geysir, Glacier Lagoon, Blue Lagoon, etc. because you will find crowds like at Disneyland, especially during the busy Summer season.

Apart from the big tourist places, you will discover heaven on earth - like this tiny narrow road below which not even my GPS was aware of... you just have to look for them.

More to come...

King Kong Pier

We've had a very unusual weather pattern here in southwest Florida - dense fog throughout most of the day along the coast from Naples up to Tampa where it caused some major disruptions: http://www.tampabay.com/news/weather/ships-delayed-visibility-low-as-fog-sets-in-again/2218865

Nevertheless, I've used to opportunity and headed towards the beach here in Naples to shoot some untypical Florida beach photographs.

In case you're wondering....

where I have been...

Well, a lot has changed in the past few weeks and months. I haven't really had a lot of time for photography but this doesn't mean my passion is gone, absolutely not.

About a month ago, I moved from Switzerland to Naples, FL with my family, left my corporate IT job that I had for 19 years and bought a small local business here in Florida. Most people think I'm crazy and that's ok.... you remember what Steve Jobs once said, right?

Here's to the crazy ones.....

Everything is still a bit messy and a lot of dust needs to be removed, the website is still the old one (don't go and look!), there is no online booking system, just the phone and there is not a lot of social media presence for that business, but this should change, soon, very soon and I plan to document all of... more »

Hockeymotions

A few weeks ago I started a new project on +Instagram with black and white #Hockey photography. I wanted to do something different than everybody else who shoots this great action sport in color. One reason I started this might be the very colorful (and ad-filled) jerseys that I don't really like but somebody needs to pay the bills, right?

So, anyway, if you like this kind of stuff, make sure to follow me on #Instagram  at http://instagram.com/meckimac

Oh, btw: The color pictures you see on my instagram feed are mostly live shots that I post during the games.

I know I've been a bad citizen here lately and haven't posted for many weeks. The reason is actually quite simple. I'm in the middle of moving me and my family from Switzerland to Florida to start a new adventure there. Exciting times!!!

I will be announcing more details on what I'll be doing down in the Sunshine State, soon so stay tuned...

A Piece of Hockey on Fine Art Paper

Together with the Swiss Icehockey Club #EVZ, I'm running a bunch of  #Ricardo auctions with unique fine-art prints, each signed by the player/s on the photographs. The entire proceeds flow into the junior program of the best hockey club in Switzerland.

I personally guarantee authenticity and uniqueness of those prints with a signed certificate plus hologram on both the certificate and the prints.

Show me the Way

I brought my "old" Leica M8 with me today while hiking the woods and it was a good decision. This is an #infrared photograph for which the M8 is perfect due to its IR sensitivity. No conversion is necessary for this camera, only a B+W 092 filter and you get pretty much only IR onto the sensor.

As I'm writing this, there is just $400 to reach our goal of $30k to make the new book reality with 11 hours to go.

So who wants to be the one to push it over the finish line? It's going to be an amazing book for a great cause.

Amazing news about Plus One Collection III

It is with much joy for the last minute miracle of large donations we are writing you all to report that we are now at 93% funding for the publication of the Plus One Collection III. We still have 12 hours to raise the remaining funds, but looks like we're almost there and the book will become a reality!

Let make it happen by spreading the word one more time. If you have additional funds and want to buy few more copies of the book for holiday gifts for your family and friends, now is a perfect time to do it, as we look to get the remaining 7% of funds. As it stands, only a small number of copies will go on sale after the book ships to all Indiegogo campaign supporters.

Let's make it happen for Eliza, her family, and all others affected by Sanfilippo Syndrome-Type A who would be blessed by the cure.

The "other" goalkeeper

My favorite picture from last night's game between #EVZ  and #HCFribourg.

The save of the day by Simon Luethi (#8) who kicks the puck away with his right foot.

Shot with a Sony A7R - believe it or not...

Google Views -> How did I miss that?

I just got a notification form Google that they added some (223) of my Google+ pictures to Google Views and Google Maps. I assume this is the end of Panoramio.... finally.

I couldn't yet figure out how to find other Google+ users Google View site... In any case, here is mine:

Shooting Ice Hockey with the Sony A7R tonight

I'm testing a Sony A7R tonight for shooting professional Ice Hockey and I'm very skeptical about its AF performance for such a fast sport but we'll see.... I got the 70-200 f/4 with it so I will be forced to shoot at around ISO 4000.

The only thing I will have plenty of is megapixels... that's for sure.

I"m planning on pushing out "live-pictures" through my iPhone to Instagram while shooting tonight. If you want to see me fail miserably in public, make sure to tune into my Instagram account at: http://instagram.com/meckimac

Rush Hour

The Louvre in Paris is an incredible busy location and although I wanted to shoot this picture without any people in it, I ended up liking the story it tells with all those tourists almost running towards the pyramid.

It was a quite sunny day and I was waiting at this spot for a few minutes (it felt like 3 hours thanks to my kids getting from slightly hungry to starving in 30 seconds...) for the sun to get covered by clouds as even without direct sunlight I had to shoot a series of 7 exposures, each 1-stop apart to cover the entire dynamic range of this scene.

Peijnenburg (almost) falls

Not #Iceland  this time. I shot this in the heart of Switzerland, near #Muothathal  while on a "backroad-tour" with fellow Photographer +Johan Peijnenburg who had a harder time photographing this waterfall than me (I shot it with my 70-200 from street level) because he didn't bring a long lens so he decided to climb down a steep hill towards the bottom of this fall and almost fell down another 3+ meter cliff... that's why this waterfall is named after him.

Sometimes, #gear  matters.... ;)

I had 3 hungry kids in the back-seat that were terrorizing me every time I stopped, yelling for Domino's Pizza which was just a good 30 minute drive away.... oh well....

Bird on the rocks

If you don't see it, you're not looking close enough...

Those giant blocks of ice seem to be steady at first glance but once you shoot a 30 second exposure, you realize that they are not... so, no long-exposure ice-block photographs....

Travel Tip:
If you're planning to see that famous glacier lagoon - see location details, don't park at the main parking-lot where are the busses and tons of tourists are, take one of the parking lots to the west and you will find a more or less deserted lagoon.

Þingvallavatn

#Þingvallavatn is the largest natural lake in #Iceland and while I can't really pronounce its name properly, it is certainly also one of the most beautiful ones.

I used a 30 seconds exposure to smoothen the water surface as good as possible but as you can see in the trees - if you look closely - it was quite windy.

I've also used this family trip to scout areas for a later photography trip so when I go back to Iceland for a Winter or Fall shoot, I certainly would return here on a calm night to shoot the aurora borealis.

Route 360

Possibly my favorite road in (South/West) Iceland - I haven't yet seen the North and East. I probably shouldn't mention this road here as it didn't seem to be well known as there was very little traffic - and best of all: NO tour busses!!

Part of it is paved and another part is gravel but every car should be able to handle that.

I will have to shoot this road at night when I go back to Iceland. It wasn't possible this time as it didn't get really dark in July but maybe March or September next year could provide some aurora borealis.

A great spot, but...

There are a handful beautiful but also well known waterfalls in Iceland that are very easy accessible and therefore packed with tour busses all day long. Even at 11pm, photogs we're fighting for the best spot so I decided not to shoot it with my big camera but rather try to find a different angle with my #iphone. Not sure I succeeded but at first glance it looks like something different.

This is #Seljalandsfoss and if you google it you will find hundreds of beautiful photographs from every angle, at every time of the day and at every day of the year...

First Day in Iceland -> Pouring Rain

We drove up to Gullfoss today but it was raining so hard that I just hardly could see the waterfall but lots of tourists with flip-flop's.... oh well...

On the way back, it stopped raining for a few minutes and when I drove past this house I had to pull over to setup my camera... my boys like it a lot when I do that... and I do it quite often..

Anyway, we'll try Gullfoss again tomorrow but I doubt I will post a picture as it's just overshot....

The Dulles Wormhole

The Aero-Train at the Washington Dulles International Airport gets you to the gates and while the ride only lasts a few seconds, it's a great opportunity to take out your camera, set the shutter-speed to something in the area of 1.5 seconds, press the widest angle-lens you have towards the glass and kick-out everyone aboard that isn't wearing black... ;-)

I know this has been done way too many times but every photographer needs to do it at least once.

The Lincoln Trio

How to shoot the Lincoln Memorial? - most likely the most photographed memorial in Washington, DC by millions of tourists every year.

The interesting thing is that it is actually illegal to film and photograph - here the paragraph from the nps.gov website:

"Lincoln Memorial: Filming/photography is prohibited above the white marble steps and the interior chamber of the Lincoln Memorial."

Anyway, I decided to disobey that rule together with the thousand other "photographers' inside the chamber and shot a 3-shot Multiexposure portrait of the memorial. It took me about 10 minutes to take the shot as I wanted to photograph it as symmetrical as possible and getting to those exact spots (I counted the marble tiles on the floor) wasn't easy.

New Beginnings

I've been awfully quiet for the past few weeks and haven't posted new photographs for a long time, I apologize for that but a lot has been going on and new, exciting changes are about to happen. More, soon...

I shot this palm tree last night in Marathon, FL using the multi exposure in-camera technique. I shot a total of 8 pictures, each underexposed by around 3 stops which is quite exciting as you don't see anything during the first few exposures but then the picture starts to become alive... kind of.

People might have wondered what's so special about this palm tree as I was wandering around it while shooting lots of pictures from different positions. I guess they'll never find out.

Analog Efex Pro 2 is here!!!!

+Brian Matiash is live on #TheGrid with +Scott Kelby and just announced the latest version of their Analog Efex Pro plugin which is part of the Nikcollection.

AEP has been my favorite plugin since they released it but version 2 really kills it.

I've used AEP2 on this picture of a Gorilla that I photographed in Busch Gardens Tampa, FL to simply add some additional foreground blur and change the tones a tad but there much more you can do with it.

If you already own the Nikcollection, it's a free upgrade which I think it's great as it feels like a brand new piece of software, if you don't download the trial version for free.

Rocket Garden

I had this picture in mind at the moment I was starting to plan a trip to Kennedy Space Center but unfortunately, the Florida Sun decided to have a break that day and we were greeted with a very boring grayish sky with sprinkles of rain. I nevertheless decided to get out into the rain and shoot that 8 exposure photograph.

I actually think that gray mood suits those old cold-war rockets much better than a deep blue sky so I call this done and will not attempt to re-shoot it in sunny conditions.

I actually think that gray mood suits those old cold-war rockets much better than a deep blue sky so I call this done and will not attempt to re-shoot it in sunny conditions.

Sunrise over the Savanna

Very often in Photography, it's much more important what you keep outside of the frame than what you include in the picture.

I shot this picture a few days ago from my Hotel-room balcony at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge near Orlando, FL.

The mountain peak you see in the background on the left is part of the Everest Expedition roller-coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
