"Seven-year-old logic: "I sprayed them with the garden hose and now they won't play with me, even after I put away the hose! Waaaaahhhhhh!"

Of course, this is also the same sort of logic we see from politicians, the, "But that was five minutes ago! What do you mean you don't want to play with me now?" sort.

It never occurs to either of them that people - and governments - need more than five minutes to chill out between encounters...

So that's it. Politicians are all still seven years old under the skin.

Sometimes having a very bright seven-year-old makes for interesting conversations. Part of this is because her reading level far outstrips her experience, and that makes finding the balance between age-appropriate and challenging, well... challenging. Here's an example:

Lizzy: Mommy, why is the rainbow a symbol for this marrying thing? Why not a yin-yang?

Me: Well, because yin-yang implies male and female, and the point of the rainbow symbol is that any grownup can marry any other grownup, whether they're a boy or a girl (note: this is all very abstract to her at seven, but we have already explained that kids cannot get married "because it's not appropriate.").

Lizzy: Okay. Squirrel!

(note: not literally squirrel, but that's when she lost interest in the conversation. Inquiring mind, first grade attention span)

Techie types - problem with my mom's TV: let's hope we can troubleshoot. Or my kids will not have TV at Grandma's while I'm at work. Please help us; we can't deal with that for long!

It started when the picture stopped. Could not turn off with remote or switch, finally unplugged and replugged. Problem reoccurred, more rapidly each time. This happens on TiVO and on XBox.

TV is a Westinghouse flat screen, 7 years old. TiVo and Xbox on HDMI ports. Wii and DVD on a switch box. Doesn't work on that input either.

Ideas?

So I have really good month-to-date stats at work, the highest score one can achieve.

That I happened to achieve this on my first anniversary there is a bonus.

That I got a congratulatory eCard from a former manager on this juxtaposition made my day.

That said manager attributes these accomplishments to my "kindness" just gives me a warm little glow.

I aim to be basically kind, and this shows me that I succeed.

Abby and I are discussing why Killian can leave like a five-minute message on Emma's phone. We decided that Storybrooke must have its own - magical, natch - cell tower. On top of the clock tower, perhaps.

Since Abby and I have watched all of the Once Upon a Time available on Netflix, and we have to wait for Season Four to either be available on Netflix or to replay on Comcast, we're starting a new (to her) show.

We tried Xena: Warrior Princess once before but she wasn't interested. This time it's her choice. She does love a good kick-ass, bad-ass female character (see River Song, Emma Swan, the titular Powerpuff Girls and both Raven and Starfire of the Teen Titans).

So Xena and Gabrielle should suit just fine.

Mack is distressing me.

Kara is about as messed up as it is possible to be.

I still feel pity for Grant Ward; he's done horrible things but he has about the best Freudian excuse defenses ever.

You know you're doing it when such sentences as, "Don't worry about the screaming; it's just the horror film we're making," (from the 12yo) or, "She can do that because cartoon physics," (from the 7yo) are standard. And stated matter-of-factly.

I love the ending of FFix. But I am not in a headspace where I want to level grind for hours to beat the last boss (again; I've completed the game um... oh, at least half a dozen times).

So I am going back and replaying FFvi instead.

I may be That Parent, although I tried to make it clear in my email to the Transportation department that I am not usually That Parent who thinks her little darlings can do no wrong.

Let's face it; kids can be annoying little twerps. But if normal kid annoying-twerp behavior bugs you, you probably shouldn't be driving a school bus. Or you should at least get some sensitivity training rather than make small children cry.

We shall see...

I would really like for this cold to go away now. Via deity, scientific endeavor, whatever; I don't care. Just nuke it from orbit, please, however you like. It's the only way to be sure.
