Saw "Man of Steel" today with my son!
HOLY. SHIT.
We both LOVED it.
Ok, yes -- the final fight scene could have been 15 minutes shorter (although we both thought it was majorly badass!), but other than that...?
PERFECT.
Seriously.
I should add the caveat that I was never a comic book/super hero fan before the Iron Man/Avengers movies came out, so I'm definitely not a purist on the back story, etc. I can see how some of the changes are tweaking out the hard core Supe fans, but as someone for whom the whole dude-flying-around-with-his-underwear-on-the-outside-of-his-unitard thing was...shall we say, a tough sell? IT. WAS. AWESOME. ;-)

Should Famous People Do Their Own Social Media?

Recently it was revealed that +George Takei does not do all his social media, but in fact has a team of people creating content and sharing things out for him.

I know many many many(most?) social media "big names" do the same thing. They hire an intern or an assistant that does all the posting for them... and except very rarely, they personally would hardly know they have an account on the platform. 

I partly understand why. The backlash you get as a 'popular poster' can sometimes be as depressing as reading tabloids about yourself and often show the worst parts of humanity.... 

But I personally still read it all. All the comments, all the mentions, all @ replied on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+.  I still find posts to create, add my own thoughts and share them on multiplepla... more »

My son's high school graduation, my dad's birthday, my son's graduation party, Father's Day, and my &  +Christophe Eme's 6th anniversary!
It's been a whirlwind, in the best possible way. :-)

This is what was happening with my youngest son when he was drowning in our small 4ft. deep, 10 ft. diameter pool. He was just one foot away from me (also in the pool).  He had rolled over the inflatable that he was on and was immediately under the water (depth doesn't matter.)  This was a few years ago.  He was underwater, trying to right orient himself but failing, it took a second for my brain to realize what was happening (an eternity as I think about it now) that he was without air upside down and panicking, I could see he was upside down underwater, his eyes wide and in stark fear.  He wasn't sputtering on top of the water and he was not screaming and kicking.  I recognized he was drowning so I rushed to pull him up out of the water leg first above the 4 ft. of water, I'm 6'3" tall so I lifted him very high.  He came up crying and sputtering and coughing. Have any of you ever dried your own apricots at home? Just made my first batch and they're awesome, but I'm wondering if a (big) food dehydrator is worth investing in for next season. Seems like it would use a lot less energy than the oven...?

They're suggesting a real use of swarm robotics -- a mini-Borg collective, if you will -- to do something GENUINELY GOOD for our planet.

Bittersweet news that "Body of Proof" is cancelled.
I was very lucky to be able to work with such awesome people, and being on a show that (for the past 2 seasons, at least) actually shot IN TOWN was heavenly.
But I'm excited to move on to the next adventure. Can't wait to see what it'll be...and take you all with me! ;-)

Ahhhhhhh, the springtime garden... :-)
Still picking sugar snaps, peas, radishes, & lettuce (that's a lettuce "bouquet" my daughter couldn't resist taking a bite out of in the pics below!). Now the first of the blueberries & blackberries are ready, tomatoes are waist-high, and the peanuts & okra are starting to poke their heads up through the ground!

Beautiful Aurora/Milky Way Timelapse from Shawn Malone - Over 10,000 pictures used

The incredible Shawn Malone created this timelapse of the night sky using a year's worth of images he captured from Northern Michigan. Over 10,000 separate images, captured during 33 separate scenes of observing, were used to make up this beautiful timelapse.

If you watch closely, you'll see: northern lights, meteors, nebulae, galaxies, planets, Venus and Jupiter, constellations, the milky way, comet Pan-Starrs, and more.
