"In late June 2013, the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph, or IRIS, will launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. IRIS will tease out the rules governing the lowest layers of the solar atmosphere -- historically some of the hardest to untangle. Known as the solar interface region, this is one of the most complex areas in the sun's atmosphere: all the energy that drives solar activity travels through it."

#ATV Albert Einstien is set for launch on 5 June and will deliver the most diverse-ever cargo mix to the International Space Station #ISS -- around 1400 different items -- ranging from food, spare parts, crew supplies and clothing to scientific experiments and other vital items.

Follow Albert Einstein in this video as it the spacecraft is built from component parts in Turin, Italy through to Bremen, Germany and shipped by boat to Kourou, French Guiana for launch.

The director, a writer and some actors in the film "Star Trek Into Darkness" will join NASA astronauts as we host a Google+ Hangout from noon to 12:45 p.m. EDT, May 16, about how work aboard the International Space Station is turning science fiction into reality.

Participating in the hangout will be NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy, who currently is living and working aboard the space station; astronauts Michael Fincke and Kjell Lindgren at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston; director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter and producer Damon Lindelof; and stars of the film, Chris Pine, Alice Eve and John Cho. The participants will ask questions of each other and take questions from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City (home of the space shuttle Enterprise), the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, and social media followers.

The Soyuz TMA-07M spacecraft carrying Tom Marshburn, Chris Hadfield and Roman Romanenko undocked from the International Space Station's Rassvet module at 7:08 p.m. EDT. The crew is scheduled to land at 10:30 p.m. southeast of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. The departure of Hadfield, Marshburn and Romanenko marks the end of Expedition 35. Expedition 36 Commander Pavel Vinogradov and Flight Engineer Alexander Misurkin of the Russian Federal Space Agency and Chris Cassidy of NASA will continue research and maintenance aboard the station. NASA Television will air live coverage of the Soyuz TMA-07M deorbit burn and landing beginning at 9:15 p.m.: www.nasa.gov/ntv.
