When nerds are in love
+Laston Kirkland was already going to the grocery store for me; we have to bring chips and dip and ice cream to our belated Mothers' Day dinner tonight. But when he's taking 5yo Lizzy so 10yo Abby and I can watch Doctor Who during daylight hours (the Whispermen are enough like the Trickster that I don't think she'll sleep if we watch it before bed), well... that's a prime example of Nerds in Love.

Today I signed up for next year's girl scouts (for me and Abby; Lizzy comes later, as she will be a daisy scout).
For the first time in my life I got to check a box for something higher than 'some college'.

The leader of our Girl Scout Troop just texted me a camera photo of the ingredients list on a bag of chips (crisps to my overseas friends), to make sure they are safe for Abby's nut allergy.
This is why technology rocks.

Um... Cybermen aren't supposed to move that fast. Is it because its cybermat insects disassembled the mobile phone?
They're looking disturbingly like Borg.
They haven't yet descended so far as Lisa Hallet territory, but then this is a kids' show, right?
Right?

got the new (replacement) phone, and it's almost to where I want it; I love that Microsoft keeps a record of what apps I've already downloaded so I don't have to buy them again.
And the girls are excited to have Makeup Girls Wedding in the Kids Corner.

Not quite as bad a start to the day as yesterday (https://plus.google.com/u/0/102174521044350449504/posts/PijRJnLjeM8)
but this morning started out with Lizzy's innocent, "Mommy, are the white hairs where you're getting old?"
Yes. Yes they are. And they go so well with the giant zit on my chin. Thank you for asking.

The Crimson Horror up now. Heh - +Laston Kirkland sounded a bit surprised that I had ordered something by that name - horror not being my style at all - until I informed him it was an episode of Who

Literalism in the 5yo:
"Mommy, Mom, Mom, Mom..."
"Not now, Lizzy, I'm working."
"But Mo-om..."
"I said not now. Shhh. Be quiet."
"Mom-mee-ee!"
"I said, 'be quiet!'"
"But you didn't say 'silent,' just 'quiet.'"
It's gonna be a long weekend. I can feel it.

For the record, I have finished the book. It's good, the story and plotting kept me hooked, the characters are complex enough to invoke interest, and it's pretty troperiffic in spots.

Abby and I are going on a Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS

Okay. Me again.
We've seen all the new Cartoon Network stuff from the nineties recently released on Netflix Instant Play (and if I never have to see some of them again it will be too soon. I have never heard more fart jokes)
We want to watch The Legend of Korra but we can't afford to pay for it right now.
So finding something that Abby (10, girl power, genre-savvy, perky goth Whovian) will like, will not make her mom and stepdad batshit crazy, and will not damage her 5yo sister.
We've done all the Aussie girl power stuff, and P&F and MLP and _Airbender_ and everything Who to an age appropriate level.
So we need something on Netflix Instant Play or Amazon Prime Free Streaming.
Quickly, before I kill them both.

As it is not a school night, we're watching a second episode of Sarah Jane Adventures... my favorite episode.

Abby wanted to watch "a not-scary episode of Doctor Who tonight." She's watching Ninth Doctor eppies with Grandma (they just watched most of Bad Wolf), and she didn't want "one we saw, like, recently."
All of this translates to "Nothing with Nine, nothing by Moffatt, and nothing with Eleven." I nixed Christmas specials, as it's a school night and they tend to be longer, so, her choice was...
School Reunion
I'm so pleased. I love watching Sarah Jane and Rose interacting.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe as read by Martin Freeman. That whole diffident-but-determined thing he's so good at serves him very well here.

Scene: Office Kitchen
Characters: Me and Non-Whovian Colleague
NWC: Why d'you have tally marks on your hands? Are you quitting smoking or something?
Me: What tally... oh. Those.
NWC: Yeah, what are they for?
Me: I don't remember.
NWC: Other Colleague has them too; are you guys doing some sort of project together?
Me: Ask OC. Maybe he remembers.
NWC wanders off, comes back as my microwave timer dings: OC says he doesn't remember. He has more of them than you do.
Me (shrugging): Well, I'm sure if it's important, we'll remember it eventually.
NWC (lightbulb pops on over head): Ohhhh... is this some sneaky Internet meme?
Me: Might be. Don't remember.

First World (Fanfic Enthusiast) Problem:
At my very First World Job (I help publish the metadata for videos on the XBOX Live), we use standard country codes.
Some of my compatriots get Austria (AT) and Australia (AU) mixed up occasionally. But to me, 'AU' means 'alternate universe'.
Not the same thing at all.

Abby is in a horror mood tonight. But she is ten. The one episode of NuWho she will not watch is Waters of Mars; we got twenty minutes in and she was done. We won't have tonight's episode until tomorrow, and we've seen the SJA haunted house episodes.
So I need horror, rated no higher than PG. Oh, and we've seen The Twilight Zone

grumpyjenn is grumpy today
And the kids seem to take that and run with it, throw it to the ground, and stomp on its last nerve for awhile.
I'm sure it's nothing more than the usual kid antics and it's my mood that's the problem.
But aaarrrggghhh!

Okay, Abby and I have a new night-tv set to watch: first an episode of the game show Hole in the Wall (because she likes it almost as much as she does Ninja Warrior) and then an episode of Squid Girl (because any anime comedy that is both dubbed an rated TV-PG is not to be scorned).
