As I sit here on the eve of Mother's Day, I am thinking of my departed mother's favorite, Temple Bailey’s poem on motherhood. Here it is:
The young mother set her foot on the path of life. “Is the way long?” she asked. And her guide said, “Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning.” But the young mother was happy and she would not believe that anything could be better than those years. So she played with her children and gathered flowers for them along the way and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them and life was good, and the young mother cried, “Nothing will never be lovelier than this.”
Then night came, and storm, and the path was dark and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle and the children said, “Oh Mot... more »

Ok, I need some advice from my more experienced photographer friends. I have been approached by a local club that would like to use some of my pics for their Facebook page (I know "Boo, Facebook"). They are a social organization, so unauthorized sales or misrepresentation isn't an issue, they just want some nice local shots on their page.
What would you do?

Hey Gang,
Part 3 of the Carolina Photowalk Series is coming up! +Daniela Duncan is hosting this round at Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner, SC.
Here are the details from her Facebook post:
"We can meet at 9:30 to photograph the beautiful black water swamp, taking the boat rides and/or walking the trails around it; then photograph the birds, butterflies and tropical flowers at the butterfly gardens; and later the varied swamp snakes, lizards and fish at the serpentarium. That beautiful place is also filled with lilies and wild flowers and with some luck we'll meet some wild gators :)
-Afterwards we can all go have a beer and break bread at a local restaurant (I suggest Sticky Fingers - great price, great food).
Cypress Gardens = 3030 Cypress Gardens Road | Moncks Corner, SC 29461
The admission fee is $10 for adults, there's a... more »

I came across this wonderful little statue while scouting the route for our upcoming Georgetown Photo Walk on the 31st of March. So far, the route looks to be a 2.5 mile walk that will feature wonderful Spanish Moss laden Live Oaks, 18th Century homes, hopefully some fresh flowers, views of our harbor and marshes. Mark your calendars and invite your friends! So grab your walking shoes and any camera / phone and join me as we around South Carolina's third oldest city.
More details to come. #GeorgetownPhotoWalk

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm a jealous of all these great photo walks happening all over the place. So. At the behest of +Ann Klein and +Pam Wolfe, I have agreed to host a photo walk in my fair city, Georgetown, SC and the surrounding areas! Details are still in the works, but circle your calendars for March 31st, 2012.
I'm thinking that we'll start in Georgetown in and around the Historic District with it's Live Oaks and Spanish Moss, wonderful views of boats moored in the harbor and view the historic Colonial and Antebellum Homes. From there, possibly visit some march areas and maybe even head up the road to the beaches of Pawleys Island.
Anyway, invite your friends and bring your cameras, any cameras...this is open to anyone who enjoys taking a stroll with new friends.
More to follow!

So many things about the South are steeped in tradition and old customs. Too often, people focus on the negative things that are associated with the Southern Culture. To live in the South is to take in the traditions that many outside don't understand. Look at this ceiling and you'll note that it's a light, almost sky blue. It's known here as Haint Blue. Haint is term for a ghost or spirit bought over by the slaves of West Africa. Many believe that Haints can't stand or cross water and that they only come out at night. The ceiling of a porch is painted blue to confuse the Haints, thus keeping them away. It is a great example of how two different cultures merged to form the basis of a new culture that millions of people share as a common experience. Something that started as a superstition, can now be found on many homes whether they be rich or poor, black or white or whatever.
