Fishing For Striped Bass - Early Spring Afternoon
This photograph was made yesterday on a beautiful Spring afternoon walk on the peaceful shore of the Minas Basin close to Starr's Point, Nova Scotia. As we were walking back we met another fisherman making his way to the shore who announced: 'The striped bass will be biting soon. Hope it's today.'

Orchid Flower
I posted this photograph of an orchid flower the other day as a monochrome image. It's a shame not to also see it in full colour, so here it is. It was taken with a macro lens and the final photograph is composed of 41 different photographs blended to give the three dimensional appearance you see. the method is called Focus Stacking.

Techno Toaster
The theme for this week is "Technology". Does it not seem ridiculous, when half the world has no bread to eat, that so much technology has been invested into making toast? In contrast the bread in here is a staple food for so many and is made in a time honoured traditional way, from sourdough. So old meets new.

Orchid
This orchid was photographed using focus stacking technique - 40 macro shots stacked to create a depth of field that is impossible to achieve any other way.
For those interested in the technical information, I used the 180mm Canon macro lens with the camera attached to a Stack Shot focusing rail and using Zerene Stacker to combine all the file information into one finely detailed shot.

Stanley Rule & Level Company Compass Plane #113
This plane dates from the third quarter of the 1800's most likely, although it is not possible to put a precise date on it. It is a wonderfully engineered tool that has a flexible adjustable sole and can plane concave as well as convex surfaces. It still gets a workout from time to time in my workshop. At the moment it is being used to finish the edge of an oval table.

The Way We Were
These old steel rimmed spectacles have a slight rusting on the surface but otherwise are in pristine condition. They are stored in this wooden case and probably date from the 1800's though I can find no information about them. Makes us reflect on times long forgotten. It makes me curious as to what might have been seen through these - and by whom!

Buy Bananas and Give Yourself a Treat
Fruit is very good to eat, put it to the test.
I have tried them all you know, bananas are the best.
Buy bananas and give yourself a treat.
Buy bananas the finest fruit to eat.
Take them home to mother, feed them to the twins,
But buy bananas but be careful of the skins.
If you're hair is very straight and you want it curled,
Follow my advice, it is the best thing in the world.
Buy bananas and give yourself a treat.
Buy bananas the finest fruit to eat.
Don't buy frozen mutton, don't use milk in tins,
But buy bananas but be careful of the skins.
If your landlord comes around and says to you "Look herem
I must have my rent today," just whisper his ear:
Buy bananas and give yourself a treat.

First Name N-S
The #photographerstofollow 2013 #alphabetcircles
Curated by +Gene Bowker
So who are these folks? And why are they photographers to follow?
First of all.. this circle contains a bunch of my closest friends on G+. The folks that I spend the most time "with" on here. There are a bunch of great photographers and just as importantly "good people" here.
1) Active : They have posted within the last month. With the holidays a lot of folks have slowed down but these folks are still there. Yes, I visited each stream.
2) Original These photographers are sharing mostly "THEIR OWN WORK" and their stream is mostly photography.
3) Interactive : I try to find folks who are interactive and comment on their own posts and the posts of others.
