Ironic
Noticing some layout glitches and definite animation lagginess in the new Google+ design, when I use Google Chrome. The issues don't exist in Firefox.

New Google+
Just a small issue. When viewing my profile page, logged in and as me, why does the Circles panel refer to me in the third person? I.e. "In his circles" and "Have him in circles"

Amazing Google announces a new Google+ layout and within hours, it's there.
Facebook announces a layout and, several months later, we're still waiting.

Android Issues
Any Android users experienced this issue and know what to do?
I've had my Galaxy Note 2 for a couple of weeks now. At first I was very impressed with Instant Upload and Dropbox having my photos uploaded and ready by the time I got to my computer.
However, yesterday, my phone started pushing over 100 of my older Google+ photos to Dropbox and to Instant upload. To my knowledge, I've never downloaded these to my phone so there must be a two way transfer going on (Download to phone then upload to Google and Dropbox).
Does anyone have any ideas why this happens and how to stop it? I don't want to disable Instant Upload, but, i I don't resolve this, I'll have to.

Google Music Manager
Is anyone successfully using Google Music Manager? I've been uploading for 8 days now, it reached about 2700 files (out of 9500) and then stopped.
I have now restarted but the count reset to zero and the total count is wildly innacurate. Frustrating, because I don't know where I am now.
iTunes Match is not without its problems, but at least the upload worked reliably.

One Week with Android
So, it's one week in with my first Android device. I have to say, I'm very impressed.
A week ago, I took delivery of a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 after almost 5 years with my Nokia E71. I've been using a 1st Gen iPad for a bit less than three years too and I'm a Mac user so I'm familiar with the Apple ecosystem.
The power, speed and flexibility of Android is an eye opener, especially coming from Apple's walled garden. It's fast, battery life is good (not "iPad good", but "better than most" good), and it's light. The iPad feels like a dinosaur now when I pick it up.
So far, I'd say I have only one disappointment. Backup and Sync.
With the iPad, I plug it in, open iTunes and click Sync. It's automatically backed up and apps, settings everything is transferred.

Now That's a Surprise
I finally got around to testing Facebook Home (all two stars worth of it).
You know what? I quite liked it. Just, not as my whole mobile interface. I think Facebook Home would be great as a mobile client for Facebook. It's a nice way of browsing your stream when you want to dip in a check out what's been happening.
However, even with a first test, as a launcher, it could lead to misunderstandings and embarrassment. How do you explain it if you lend your phone to your wife and the first thing it displays when she switches it on is a photo of your friend's wife?

Learn Something Every Day
Here's a little Mac tip that I only just discovered.
If you click on the separator on your Dock, between Apps and Other stuff, you can drag up to increase the Dock size and drag down to decrease the Dock size.
It's only taken me four years to work that one out (assuming it was in Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion.

I've had a Jolidrive account for a while now without using it. Finally, it seems to have matured and gained enough functionality to make it genuinely useful as a tool and Chrome Startpage.

Insync
It's good to see that Insync has finally reached version 1.0.
For those who don't know what Insync is, it's a Google Drive client that has been around in Beta since before Google even announced Google Drive.
Why would you want to use Insync over Google's own client?
I can think of 3 good reasons.
1: Insync supports multiple Google Accounts.
2: Google's own client on Mac is extremely flakey when working through a proxy. This is a real pain for those of us in China who need to use a VPN to access many sites.
3: Insync will follow symbolic links. This means that, rather than having to copy all of your files into a specific folder, you can create a link in the Insync folder to the files or folders and Insync will automatically follow that link, uploading the files directly from the original ... more »

Migrating from Parallels 8 to Virtualbox
TL;DR : Virtualbox can open a Parallels 8 virtual disk directly. But, the virtual disk is buried within a .hdd package which is buried within the Parallels .pvm package.
As a Mac user who migrated from Windows a few years ago, I've never quite been able to lose my Windows connection. There's always something that just isn't available in OS X. This is especially true living in China where the majority of online banks still only support Internet Explorer and some government departments mandate Windows XP for some tasks.
Rather than use Bootcamp I've been a long time user of Virtualbox. It's free and, compares well with the main opposition, Parallels and VMWare Fusion. However, a recent MacUpdate bundle purchase left me with a licensed copy of the latest Parallels release, version 8.
