Hmm. This is news? The Right is taking things to extremes?
;')
"There's been no finding of criminal activity in the Obama administration, and the FBI's opening of a criminal investigation of the IRS should lay to rest accusations that the administration has failed to take the matter seriously."
I wonder how many more times we'll have to deal with this while real news goes unreported.
Did YOU know there was a shooting in New Jersey on Mother's Day? 19 people were shot.
I didn't either.
Bigger question: Do you know who owns the news' organs?
I don't either.

The IRS story is likewise looking less and less like a scandal .
"The IRS didn’t so much single out conservative groups as conservative groups singled themselves out by applying en masse for tax-exempt status: “So the crime here had nothing to do with 'targeting' conservatives. The targeting was effectively done by the conservative groups themselves.”
"One could no less persuasively lump them into the “narrative” of government employees making good-faith efforts to undertake difficult judgments in the face of implacable partisan opposition exploiting raging paranoia."
I'm looking forward to the day when we think more about the future of our nation and less about partisan anything. I do not think it is unrelated that a quarter of our citizens are dropping out of HIGH SCHOOL that politicians can make "scandals" out of pretty much... more »

Can you tell which of these lean left and which ones right? Patriot Majority USA, Crossroads GPS, American Future Fund and the Citizens for Strength and Security Fund.
We need to overturn Citizens United.

Happy Mother's Day to Mothers Around the World
• May all manner of joy come your way to those who have children.
• May all those who are mothering other people's children, may you be recognized and appreciated.
• May all who have adopted children, may the birth mother have a peaceful heart, and the adoptive mother a full one.
• May all who have lost their children to death, may you endure for better days ahead.
• May all who have lost their own mothers to death, may your pain be a little less every day. (Below is a picture of my mother, now deceased, whom I indeed miss every day.)
• May all who have thankless children, may your pain be lessened by knowing you are not alone. ("Sharper than a serpent's tooth.")

New Sunday Tradition: #SundaySeven
#sundayseven #022413
Many of us here on Google+ are following incredible people - some who we've known for years, friends, coworkers and family. Others are people we only know online, but the relationships can be just as strong, as we learn from each other, discover, discuss and share ideas. Each Sunday, I'll plan on sharing with you seven people I enjoy on Google+. Here's the first round.
1. +Rick Klau: Head of Startup Lab at +Google Ventures. Formerly of +YouTube, +Blogger, FeedBurner and +Google+ .
2. +Amanda Rosenberg: Marketing maven on +Project Glass, previously of +Google+. Lover of +Android.

And for the rhyming #proverbposter, you need to interpret it as the metaphorical "morning of life" since I am obviously too late for this to count as morning now, even for those of you on the west coast: For age and want save while you may; no morning sun lasts a whole day.

What DO you do when the unconventional opinion is . . . wrong ?
Good question! Chris Guillebeau is one of my favorite bloggers because he is a "can do" kind of person! He decided that he wanted to travel to every country in the world. And he DID IT!!!!!
This is a piece on the theme of what happens when you find out facts that turn out to go against what everyone around you is saying: Chris discovered that Portland's youth have twice the cavities of Seattle's. Why? Because their water is not fluoridated.
"When I’m not roaming the world, I live in Portland, Oregon, land of strong coffee and tall bikes.
Portland is a fun little place, and it also happens to be one of the most progressive cities in America. You can buy marijuana at a food cart beginning at approximately age twelve.

Having Second Thoughts About Parody
In a thread last week that discussed what I thought was a very funny presentation at this year's Correspondent's Dinner (President Obama at 2013 White House Correspondents' Dinner (C-SPAN)), I had to explain to someone that it was all supposed to be funny. President Obama did not wear a wig, for example (except of course, he did in what I thought was a pretty funny ribbing of Mrs. Obama's new hairdo). It was not clear to this person which was real, which was the parody.
If you watch much Jon Stewart (I've taken a break recently), you can start feeling that EVERYTHING is cynical.
In this piece from The New Republic, a very good argument is made against satire, here are some excerpts:
"Juicing an already true-enough premise with more unbelievability simply adds to the informational noise po... more »

C'mon President Obama! Be Stupid Like President Clinton With Lewinsky !
Make it easier! The lack of scandals is making it impossible to feed the beast!
"Right-wing media has stoked huge demand for scandal among conservative consumers, but there isn’t a supply. And so, Republicans have had to create them, latching onto mistakes and ambiguities, and magnifying them into epic examples of administration misconduct."...
"Aren’t there responsible Republicans who see this behavior as damaging to the party’s brand? Absolutely, they just have little influence over actual GOP politicians and the voters they represent. For the Republicans who indulge this, there’s not much to lose." ...
"Satisfying conservative demand for Democratic scandals is lucrative business, and it will continue for as long as Barack Obama—or any Democrat—is... more »

My Favorite Part is The Hall of Fame
"For every rocket ship like Instagram or Nicira, there are many companies that take seven years or more to reach massive outcomes. That gives hope to many venture investors who are waiting for that mythical next big thing."
Not so mythical: some people can see beyond the immediate horizon or they wouldn't invest in the first place.

Stop wasting money
If you're still using Email as you primary communication tool, watch this, then do a simple calculation... how many minutes did email take up yesterday that could be considered wasteful? Now times that by 5 to get the working week, and then times it by the number of people in your entire organisation, who also use email as their primary method of communication. Now figure out the monetary value of that. Now go talk to the boss about how much money social networking could save his company.
The case for using Social Networking tools is closed. Now work on the culture required to make it work effectively.
I can never share this video enough... :)

The first point of reference.
Whenever one realizes that he's lost and wise enough to admit it, one tries to find his bearings. Another way of saying that, is that one tries to orient itself, place himself into some kind of a context, so that directions become once again clear.
To orient oneself, orientation.
Look at that word... what do you see in it? What other obvious meaning is there to be seen, but never noticed? What first reference point are we searching for when we try to orient ourselves?
Well, it is obvious isn't it... we are searching for the Orient. We are searching for our true East, meaning our deepest roots, the point from where we as individuals, as well as we as humanity come from. And that is always somewhere to the East. History started there. We started there.
East, the place of birth, the place where the first li... more »

Good Service
Everyone likes to write about bad service because bad service makes you mad and ready to yell!
Well today I got AMAZINGLY good service from Dell International. I ordered a computer for a friend who lives in another country and had made an error in the order. I sent them an email with no hope they would get back to me.
Well, guess what? They TELEPHONED me from France to the U.S.! And made sure everything was correct. Who gives that kind of service? No one I know!
Thanks Dell! You really do have, "The power to do more." ;')

He Who Pays the Piper Calls the Tune
So, those who are sending their kids to Montessori schools are "calling for" pro-Common Core testing?
They are not paying the piper. They should not be calling the tune for public education.

Read of the Week || Back online after a year without the internet
Food for your brain, something to think about.
"My plan was to leave the internet and therefore find the "real" Paul and get in touch with the "real" world, but the real Paul and the real world are already inextricably linked to the internet. Not to say that my life wasn't different without the internet, just that it wasn't real life."

I am a curator of people.
I have built my G+ following through relentless outreach to the most interesting people on Google+. I am convinced that the future will emerge from the fusion of artistic intuition and methodical implementation. I have collected engineers who dare to dream, and artists who want to reinvent society.
This circle represents a similar fusion. I have gone back to the birth of Google+ and found the dynamic pioneers whose play defined the pre-launch and early growth of the network. I have identified doers and dreamers with unique perspectives. I have included all-time favorites and some new friends as well.
Enjoy!

We’re entering a world that increasingly rewards individual aspiration and persistence and can measure precisely who is contributing and who is not.
As I keep pointing out, Thomas Friedman does NOT get it that massive open online courses are NOT a good idea for those who are not already educated and motivated (namely, young people). Most of what teaching is about is motivating others to become curious about the world for themselves.
Apparently, he DOES get it in this editorial that if you are not learning something new every day and if you do not know HOW to learn what you need to know online, you are toast in the hyperspeed change that is taking place right now.
