Get busy sharing photos from your existing albums!

With the Memorial Day weekend upon us, I'm sure that there will be tons of photos being taken and subsequently shared here on Google+. I'm happy to let you know that you can now share photos that are directly added to your existing albums while retaining all of your +1s and comments. Just navigate to the album of your choice, click on 'Add Photos', select your photo(s), and upload away. Upon completion of the upload and any applicable face tagging, a share box will appear, allowing you to share with your circles.

I want to give a special shout out to +Google+ Photos Engineer, +Andrew Lee for building out this feature for us to enjoy and for +Vincent Mo for helping me visualize my excitement with his Tiger Uppercut Motion photo. #AutoAwesome  FTW.

Lunar Alpenglow And Milky Way Skies At West Spanish Peak

On a night where the primary plan (for great night photography) went to pot, I decided to improvise with a plan to head south to the Spanish Peaks with good friend, Jon Blake.

We were hoping for some more cooperative weather (than was predicted up north) and with a big 84% full moon setting at 3:30 am, I figured we had a chance for a good composite image. I was hoping for some good light from the moon just as it set on the horizon followed by some good dark sky shots of the milky way afterward.

I was musing about HDR photography on my blog today: http://goo.gl/uS2Yf. I don't comment on the merits or demerits of HDR very often. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter what I think. Hashing something over and over that has no answer never seems productive to me. Doing that makes me feel like I'm wasting air I might need later on for something really important. So I usually step aside and let others have at it.

See, the whole conversation is all part of the greater concept of (what is and isn't) art. That discussion has been raging on for centuries and STILL hasn't been resolved to anyone's satisfaction. I'm big on resolutions. So I go about my business, making images that make me happy and sharing a bit about what I do to those who are interested. Seems like a good plan.

Sharing a photo from an album.  Has this been fixed/figured out yet?  I would like to be able to re-share a photo without having it create a new folder, or upload a new photo to a current album and share it to the public.  Any tips out there?

"Blown Away"

First image from another fantastic night out. This was the scene near Bow Summit this morning at around 3:45. The Milky Way seemed to emerge directly from Crowfoot Mountain. I already miss the northern reaches of Banff National Park!

Note: I really don't endorse lying in the middle of the road for photos. I had not seen another vehicle for hours and it seemed like an OK thing to do...

Seeing how good portrait images look in the stream, I don't shoot many, this worked as a portrait quite well at the time just because of the scale.
The first time i visited this waterfall the weather was terrible, hammering it down with rain, though it didn't stop this little girl from getting up close to take her shot... Shot hand held for just under quarter of a second, as much as I could do while still keeping some kind of sharpness. To all the people who have already visited here, yeah I removed the little rope barrier... :-)

Orange, Blue and Red, Guilin, Guangxi Province, China

This is a shot of Sun and Moon Pagodas which sit on a lake in Guilin. They are typically Chinese in that they are beautifully lit at night and hugely photogenic. I especially love the reflected colour they cast across the lake.

Whiskeytown Lake NRA, The wind died down here after the stormy last couple evenings...and we got the tail end of the storm.  I was hoping for lightning, but kids and lightning don't mix...so I settled for quality time with the kids, and no lightning

This was a real grab shot. I'd been doing some long exposure shots of this windmill and was just packing away when this couple walked over the brow of the hill and into shot. I quickly unscrewed my ND filter and recomposed but forgot I had it on bulb mode so had to flip the power off to cancel the shot, set to AV and try again. I just got this shot before they got too close to the Mill. Phew!

Oura Tanada
Kyushu, Japan

Although I've seen a lot of gorgeous rice terraces in the Philippines, I was still impressed with the Oura Tanada in Saga. The major difference is the rice terraces in my home country are located in the middle of a huge mountain range which makes it grand and epic. While most of the terraces I've seen in Kyushu are close to the sea which can be gorgeous for sunrises or sunsets. I equally love both and hoping I can visit them again in the near future.

The Road Home is Swoopy Sometimes... Dead Horse Point, Utah

With all the twists, turns, choices and options before her... she wondered how to know which one was right. In the end though, it turned out that all the swoops didn't matter so much as remembering where she wanted to go.
When she did that, she enjoyed the scenery so much more.
And her feet traveled in just the right direction.

I absolutely love this. So here in Brisbane they made a completely white room in the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. Every kid who visited was given a colour sticker. The result? Beautiful chaos!

First Snow in Yosemite

I took this a little while back during an amazing Yosemite trip. I couldn't believe how lucky we got with conditions. It was the end of the fall and the valley had just seen it's first snow of the season. These luscious fall colors you see here were all gone a few days after due to the cold but for that one magical weekend the seasons overlapped to bring this display of breathtaking splendor.
