The Stans are countries whose name end in the suffix -stan. They are: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. They actually form a contiguous area of 5 million square kilometres, inhabited by around 275 million people. Pakistan is the most populous (185 mil. people) and Kazakhstan is the largest (2.7 mil. sq. km).
The -stan suffix stands for "place of" in Perisan, and there are a number of regions whose name contain the suffix, like Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, and Dagestan in Russia, Balochistan in Pakistan, or Rajasthan in India. At one time I was also living in Absurdistan, but not anymore.

IEEE acknowledges the breach, instructs users to reset passwords. See http://ieeelog.com for details on the breach.

I wonder how long until IEEE acknowledges the data breach and informs its users. More than 24 hours since I informed them on the breach and they plugged the hole.
