At our tour trough Costa Rica, I fulfilled a dream I had in my head again and again even at the last visit. After we drove inland to the Arenal and Tenorio volcanoes of the Caribbean side, we went to the Pacific coast. And there we visited the Palo Verde National Park. This national park is compared to others in Costa Rica rather an exception, because it has neither rain nor fog forest woods. The Palo Verde is a huge dry forest landscape with grass steppes and you sometimes tend to be the feeling to be in Africa rather than in Costa Rica. At least in the dry season when we visited the park. At this time it is one of the hottest region's in Costa Rica.
For birdwatchers, this park is a dream, because every year, many migratory birds came over, which can be seen well because of the lesser vegetation. We have even met some ornithologists from a Costa Rican university that have documented the... more »

And here's my result and the way I did it:
My goal was to try a new way of processing this very nice capture. I tried to mask them together to get a very natural and realistic result. Normally I use, as most of you, Photomatix to get my HDR. With this shot I thought I give it a try to do the blending manually. And here's how I did it:
1. Loaded all Images as Layers in Photoshop and used Luminance Masks (Channels) to mask them together
2. Cleaned up the image
3. Used Luminance Masks again. This time as Curves and get some Contrast and colors back into the image

A new posting from Costa Rica. We're now again in a spot where we have Internet access so I'm ready to show new pics I had on my blog today (http://natur-highlights.de/tortuguero-national-park/2013/02/05/).
It's a red-eyed tree frog I found in the Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. It's quite hard to get them in front of the lens because these frogs are nocturnal.

It's amazing in which remote locations you get internet access these days. Right now I'm at the Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica. Today we learned why the Rainforest is a "Rain"forest :-). But we had a really cool canoe tour through the Park.
This picture is from the Cahuita National Park which is also on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. It's an Three-toed sloth (Bradypodidae).

I had the chance to take this shot from these Scarlet Macaws during my last Costa Rica Trip. At the beaches between Puerto Jimenez and Matapalo on the Peninsula de Osa is a good place to see these nice, colorful and noisy birds.
1 1/2 Weeks and I can go back to Costa Rica :-)

"Tastes Good" --- For a couple of weeks each year, the trees in my street produce pea sized seeds covered in a very nice, soft, sweet skin. This particular delicacy attracts thousands of Rainbow Lorikeet parrots.
