Good morning all :-)
Yes, I have had my first cup of coffee. Otherwise that would have been a different smiley.

How to interact well on Google+
Once again I'm seeing one of these guidance posts floating around, with some really good advice - but as usual, the good advice is mixed with stuff which I think isn't so good. Here are specific points that I feel I need to respond to:
1. When you like something, hit +1. Yes, sure. (The post goes on to say that it's ok to +1 your own stuff. Sure, there's no law against it, but why on earth would you? Do you have conversations with yourself where you pat yourself on the back or high-five yourself for saying something clever? +1ing your own stuff makes no sense, it makes you look stupid and narcissistic. It makes me think of Cat in Red Dwarf. If you don't want to look ridiculous, don't do it.)
2. If you want to engage in conversation, post a comment. Yes. but the post then goes on to say that when you engage in... more »

This is a SketchUp version of the house which I designed for my exam project. I am currently working on making a physical 1:50 model of it in materials like foamboard and plasticard.

Mornin' G+
We are having crappy weather in my area today, with plenty of rain. Why is it, that you never remember to buy an umbrella while the weather is fine, so you have it for days like this?

Hmm, I've spent more time on G+ today, than I have in the last two months combined.
It is nice to take the time to have a look around again and not just check what the usual must read circle posts. I've even done some circle clean-up and of course posted a couple of pics.
My interests tend to have a certain pattern. I get really caught up in something (lately it is roleplaying, before it was Ingress) and spend almost all my free time on it for a while. After a couple of months (sometimes a year) I have a burnout on the i interest/hobby and completely abandon it, only to have it replaced by something new, which I get just as intense about.
Many of my hobbies I return to after a while, when they suddenly catch my interest again (reading, roleplaying, and painting miniatures fits in this category), while others never return.
Lately I have been trying to not ... more »

A friend of mine is knitting a shirt (or something, I wasn't paying attention) for her daughter, with multicolored yarn. I thought it would make for an interesting macro shot.

I'm pretty sure this is some kind of tulip, but in any case it is a beautiful flower and it was just begging for a little special treatment.
It did take a little setup to get this photo, including killing the flower and taking it home, spraying it with some water and post-processing the pic in LR.

Just to give my two cents.
I generally like the new look of G+, but three columns is a bit much, so I have turned it back to one (I think I would prefer two).
I hope that at some point, we get the option to chose number of columns we want to see, as well as their width (I know there are workarounds, but I don't care enough to mess with it).
In any case there doesn't seem to be much reason to get all worked up because of it. Who knows how it looks in six months.

My parents in 1953
I've gotten my hands on some of my parents old photo albums, so I can scan them. This is one of the first ones I've run through the scanner, my parents in their heyday, when it wasn't politically incorrect to smoke cigars.
In '53 my dad was 26 and my mom was 20 years old (and I was still 19 years in the future).

Getting into map-making (and RPG) again
It has been a long time since I played any RPG and even longer since I messed around with world building and map making, but recently I got the urge to get into it again.
I am working on a duchy (one of a loose affiliation of six) and this is the WIP map for it (all made in Photoshop). I am pretty happy with it so far, but I am about to make some forest and can't really decide on what look I want and how to make them. I have taken a look around Cartographer's Guild, but most of the tutorials I can find seems to be for GIMP or doesn't give the result I want.

I'm about to start playing some RPG again, after a decade's absence from the hobby. My intention is to run a game using Pathfinder, but I can decide on a campaign setting. Several official ones appeal to me for various reasons, but all of them have parts I really don't like.
- Forgotten Realms is classic and I know it quite well, but I think I want to try something different.
- Eberron has some really cool parts, like the recent war and lots of magic wonders, but I would have to get rid of all the psionics (never liked the idea of psionics for anything but mind flayers).
- Birthright is a favorite of mine, but it would take a lot of work getting it to work with Pathfinder.
- The Pathfinder campaign is okay, but it seems a bit boring.
I could make my own setting (I have done so before), but it is a lot of work. I have thought of incorporating the stuff I like,... more »

Rejuvenation of the Sci-Fi circle sharing
Sci-FI Community link here : http://bit.ly/14PmI2V
Cleaned up the circles and only included people actually interested or posting about SF. Have removed a number of profiles and pages with a leaner, more focused laser-like pinpointing on Science Fiction.
Why should you add them? They are awesome - they support the SF initiative and are genuinely interested in Science Fiction.

If you were new on G+
no, I wouldn't tell you who to circle, not unless I know you very very well. I'd say: feel free to check out the profiles of people I have in my circles and see if you're interested in following them. and when you see someone commenting on a post and you like what they say, check them out too. or when you see a reshare of someone's post and you think that person is talking great sense, or you like their style, or whatever.
and the most important piece of advice I'd give you is: don't be scared to add people. strangers are only those people you haven't got to know yet. and adding people costs you nothing. it doesn't commit you to a lifelong relationship - you can always uncircle someone if you find that they didn't live up to your expectations. think of it not in terms of facebook friends - think of it as a free... more »

More Flowery Spring Goodness
I am really happy with how this one turned out, even if it was just pure luck that the bee happened to be flying towards the flower I was shooting, just at the right moment.

In less than two months I will finish my education to become a "teknisk designer" (more or less equivalent of draughtsman or architectural drafter, I believe). In two days I start my final project, which I have three weeks to finish, followed by two weeks for visualization and exam prep, which ends with my final exam.

As mentioned earlier today, I met Jesper Binzer, the front man of the Danish band D-A-D (apparently this is the right way to write their name these days). As a public service to all you people who aren't Danish and have never heard of the band, here's one of their newer songs I Want What She's Got.
Note that they usually don't wear drag ;-)

Mødte Jesper Binzer i Metropol idag og fik signeret hans bog I Won't Cut My Hair. Havde nok ikke købt den, hvis ikke han tilfældigvis sad der, men jeg glæder mig nu alligevel til at læse den.
For the Danish impaired: Jesper Binzer is the front figure of the Danish rock band D.A.D (perhaps D:A:D this week, formerly known as Disneyland After Dark) and he was doing a signing of his biography in our local mall.

Welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline.
If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.
If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2.
If you have multiple personalities, please press 3, 4, 5, and 6.
If you are paranoid-delusional, we know who you are and what you want. Just stay on the line so we can trace the call.
If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number to press.
If you are depressed, it doesn't matter which number you press. No one will answer.
If you are delusional and occasionally hallucinate, please be aware that the thing you are holding on the side of your head is alive and about to bite off your ear.

Cake Leftovers Truffles
There were quite a lot of cutoff pieces left of the cake I posted the other day, as well as some buttercream so I decided to combine them, add a little cocoa and kahlua for taste, and make these truffles ("trøfler" in Danish).

Christening Cake
Our newest creation for the daughter of a friend of mine. She is getting baptized tomorrow.
We are quite happy with the result :-)
All the decorations are made from homemade marshmallow fondant, except the butterflies which are made of gumpaste and the date which is made in decorating chocolate.
The cake is standard vanilla spongecake with layers of chocolate mousse and raspberry mousse.

Did the latest G+ update remove manners?
I'm not sure if it's my browser, my PC, the latest G+ update, or something else ... but there seems to be a decline in manners and etiquette.
Now, I know that some folk are new, and thus don't know better, but there are some folk that do know better.
If you Share, you reference the person you saw the post from (be it the originator or someone that shared it and you saw the share).
If you see a Post you want to reference, Share it, do Not make a clean post and make it look like you found it all by yourself.
Alternatively, have the decency to reference the original post by Linking and +Mentioning the poster.
G+ thrives on Shares and +Mentions.

It's one of the ways to gain traction and interaction.
