More photos from the RocketmanTri last week! I'm so glad I did it. It was a blast.

Here's the route (red line) we had for the Rocketman Tri (May 5th). We rode past the VAB and the two shuttle launchpads. Such an amazing route. It was 36 miles.
The blue route is the half ironman route.

The science museum in Miami has a facial & mood recognition video which tries to determine your mood, gender & age. It got my mood and gender... and made me a very happy camper about my age :)

Strange beasts at the beach. The raccoons were at the Cocoa Beach public shower. The manatee (at first, hiding under the zodiac) was at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science pier (we were a foot away...no we did not approach, the manatee came to us).

Busy, busy day in Miami... drove from Titusville, met w +David Shiffman and did lots of planning for ScienceOnline Oceans. Saw a manatee about 12 inches from us. Pics in a bit.

Why, yes, I did just finish the RocketmanTri today! I was adorned in feathers to honor my training partner +Camilla Corona SDO who was unable to compete with me due to something that came up. Video of the 33 miles through the Kennedy Space Center launchpads will be up tomorrow (I hope).

Think landfills are too big of a problem for one person to make a difference? Here's my effort: I've used this same disposable razor for almost 2 years and it's still going strong (picture below). I sharpen it against a piece of jeans material (the opposite direction you would "shave" with). How many disposable razors have you used (& disposed of) in 2 years?

Quick Baby Robin update. Day 2 (morning). There are either 4 birds in there, or the fourth egg was thrown out of the nest. I'll know better tonight.

The #TriSciTweetup met at the Duke Lemur Center today! We were able to go out in the woods and observe the lemurs up close. So. Much. Fun.
The +ScienceOnline folks who go on tour in January do not get a chance to go outside with the lemurs because it is too cold.

OK, Micro 4/3 folks. I'm going to Alaska next week. Which lenses should I take?
(for reference to standard DSLR lenses, double the focal length)
100-300mm telephoto
45-200mm telephoto
20mm pancake
9-18mm wide angle
14-45mm kit lens
I'm bringing a small digital wifi microscope, my iPhone (w macro lens) and possible a Flip camera. Thoughts?

It's been a crazy day. So here's a picture I'll share. This is the 3D printed head of the +MakerBot scan I did in their NYC store. That's me! Kind of scary, huh?

OK, so in case you missed this on Facebook--this is what happens when you help backstage at TEDMED. Why, yes, that's me with +Richard Simmons . For the record, he's pretty terrific in person. Was a lot of fun. And after watching him, I think he is actually an introvert.

Um... so this is what happens sometimes when you walk away from the 3D printer (which happens a lot for a long build). The build failed, and then the PLA plastic started to accumulate and build up around the extruder compartment.

After waiting in a queue for 70 minutes, I finally was able to chat with a +TurboTax pro... and actually got an answer to my question! I think I will be able to check off "Conquer & Submit Tax Return" later tonight!

Success! My Replicator2 is amazing. I found this file on Thingiverse, printed the parts out, used a hairdryer to help soften the connections so I could connect the parts. I left some of the "strings" on (rather than trim them off) to give it a little otherworldly look, but I will probably trim them off later. What do you think?
The file is found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:60521

At 11:02 UT we celebrated March Equinox.
It's the date when the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading north. Spring begins in one hemisphere, autumn in the other. The day and night are of approximately equal length.

The Return of the Super Science Circle
Okay, I'll admit, I made a mistake in retiring the Super Science Circle. I wasn't wrong; Communities are still the future and the best way to make friends here on Google+. But I realized that the Super Science Circle is simple and efficient way to get new people to see that Google+ isn't a ghost town.
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST... FOR SCIENCE!
When I was attending +ScienceOnline 2013, I must have helped dozens of people join Google+, and the first thing I had them do was import this circle. It's an invaluable tool for getting new people up to speed.
So, I just did a complete refresh on the circle. I examined every single member and judged them according to my two-part criteria:
1. Active in the last 30 days or so.
2. Regularly post on scientific topics.
If you know anyone ... more »
