Focusing on network vulnerabilities
Next two days I'm taking part in course that might teach me something about countering attacks towards our network.
Have to admit that it is somewhat exciting how much vulnerabilities and possible exploits we will find during (and after) this course...

Made some chicken tonight...
First I put all chicken pieces evenly on pan. After that I covered them with blue cheese, crushed lime-seasoned cashews and finally bbq sauce. Put them into oven for half an hour and got really delicious dish. Enjoyed them with white wine. Not bad experiment!

Machine that goes PING!
Some humor for friday... This might be my favorite Monty Python sketch, there are many others but this one shines amongst them. 30 years of age, but still entertains today.

Why I can't see new posts?
After hitting that 'new' -button, my canal flowed posts into next lock (see my earlier post: https://plus.google.com/117166962835543791045/posts/R1KENdjsGEn) but I saw only roughly 10 new posts... Others were old posts that I had read earlier. So where those 290 posts went?
Unless I keep clicking that 'new' -button continuously, I'll miss most of new posts, because all posts are re-load and popular old posts are offered again.
Is anyone else having this problem? +Google+ Helper

Google+ doesn't have stream anymore, but canal with locks
I just realized that stream is something that moves on continuously and this "stream" here has stagnated into canal with locks. Every time you push that 'new' -button, you open a lock and let posts flow into next lock.

While everyone is blabbing how good/bad this new UI in Google+ is, there have been some changes elsewhere too. Check out the new buttons in GMail!

For more than two years, the #Linux operating system has contained a high-severity vulnerability that gives untrusted users with restricted accounts nearly unfettered "root" access over machines, including servers running in shared Web hosting facilities and other sensitive environments. Surprisingly, most users remain wide open even now, more than a month after maintainers of the open-source OS quietly released an update that patched the gaping hole.

Bring back the auto-update to stream!
It's the only thing I'm asking... Everything else I can cope with. And yes, this looks good, only functionality has suffered.

AAARGH!
Stream layout with posts queued (like it used to be) causes huge whitespace in astronomical scale to appear... Me no like!
Otherwise this seems snappy and working solution.

Treats from the grill
This summer's bbq season starts slowly... This was just the third time I've been sitting besides hot grill and cool beverage.
Nevertheless, now we had salad, sauerkraut (really delicious!), buttered & seasoned corn, halloumi and some chili sausages. Also found today couple cans of really tasty beer from local shop discount shelf.
And that catfood box had our sauce bottles in it, no actual cat food. :D

Yet again, I'm building stuff...
This time I spent two evenings building a chicken coop. To be honest, I just turned our old kid's playhouse into one. Playhouse had suffered some damage from moisture, but is still in relatively good shape for housing couple chickens for summer. I had to build wooden door frame and attach some mesh fence between it and the playhouse.
I surprised myself with pretty solid structure and I'm not a builder type or good with structures without prior instructions/blueprints. Tomorrow I have to build couple perches inside and add some finishing touches. Still I think that this thing looks hideous, but will do it's job fine.

Visited Tallinn on weekend...
It's always really nice to visit our southern neighbors and have some quality time there. Weather was fine, but Sunday morning was rather cold, so we had to keep on moving to stay warm...;) On Saturday we saw huge crowd dancing in middle of the old town square, it was all singing and dancing and joyous stuff. Later we found out that they were also walking through streets singing and performing.
We had nice time there and plan to go again coming summer. Food is really excellent (and insanely cheap if you don't end up in tourist traps) and beer is tasty too. Probably have to visit that zoo there and check out more of the new town (and finally check out missing parts of the old town!).

And here's the greenhouse I finished today...
Damn, those panels were really annoying to attach! But I got it done and our little greenhouse needs only few boxes and shelves for plants. Total building time was roughly 8 hours. Whew!

Something that I built today...
I got our greenhouse's frame done today. Tomorrow I'll be fixing panels to it, so we can start growing some nice home-grown vegetables.

Funny and interesting Linux command line utilities
Working on Linux command line can be fun sometimes. Ubuntu Linux is used for all the examples. Enjoy at your own risk!:
1. Linux "sl" command
From the man page: "sl - display animations aimed to correct users who accidentally enter sl instead of ls."
$ sudo apt-get install sl
$ sl
(see image)
Animated steam locomotive loving across the screen from right to left. One can play a prank on someone by:
$ alias ls=sl
2. Linux "yes" command
From the man page: "yes - output a string repeatedly until killed"
$ yes linux
linux
linux
linux
linux
^C
$
Why would we want a command to keep on printing a string all the life of the process? We can use "yes"... more »

Fever - One way to handle it...
On Monday, I was very tired at work. And by very I mean really really tired. I thought it was just the fact that I had slept only 1,5 hours previous night and woken up 0:30 and couldn't get sleep anymore.
I managed to get through the day, usual it-stuff and one lengthy meeting even. After I got home, my wife asked why I was shivering and pale. I realized that I usually never feel cold, so I took out our thermometer...
Minutes later, I got whopping 39,6 (°C) points in "Are you sick?" competition and decided to not do anything for rest of the day. Lots of juice, couple medicine pills and mail to work that I'm not coming next day. Early into bed and 16 hours of continuous sleep. <-that's nearly 3x my normal amount).
Woke up next morning feeling quite good, no fever or tiredness...

Saturn Peeks A Boo
In this extraordinary capture, Saturn appears to be emerging from just beyond the moon. It's worth remembering that the Moon is a mere 400 thousand kilometers away, compared to Saturn's distance of 1.4 billion kilometers. For details, check out the Astronomy Picture of the Day at http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130407.html
