Peter Vogel44,635My circle of educators who post about information technology from an education perspectiveSomeone asked me earlier today if they could have access to this circle of about 450 educators. For some reason a private sharing didn't work for him so I am sharing the circle publicly. Perhaps it will be of use to some others as well. The circle isn't perfect. There are sure to be some dormant accounts in it but that should be more than made up by the many devoted G-plussers you will find here.2014-11-14 04:49:174553311
Peter Vogel44,233Sharing a circle of terrific ICT educatorsHere in British Columbia we are about to head back to school. What better time to share this circle of people who share their expertise in Information and Communications Technology or Educational Technology if you prefer another label.I've been a Google+ user since day 1 and in fact I began using it, appropriately enough, while on a three-week stay at the birthplace of the World Wide Web, CERN, perhaps better known as the home of the Large Hadron Collider. I began building this circle of plussers while there. Now I must admit I haven't been good about culling dormant accounts of late so don't expect everyone in the circle to be a gem. Also, if you happen across this post and circle and wish to be included (on the basis outlined above) just send me a note.  2014-08-29 22:11:48451101

Peter Vogel24,368ICT / Ed Tech CircleIt's a long weekend here in Canada (we celebrate Thanksgiving well ahead of our neighbours to the south). Here is a circle of people with a passion for technology in education and who have shared that enthusiasm here on Google+. And that makes for an ideal group to share their energy with others perhaps just starting to explore the rich environment of G+. Consider this a Thanksgiving gift from Canada. 2012-10-07 00:18:36420304
Tim Calvin1,917It's been a while since I shared this, so I thought I'd re-post. G+ only lets you share up to 500 people in a circle, so even though this has 1272 people in it, you'll only get 500. ONLY.2012-08-24 13:09:10500200

Bill Campbell0Google Plus circle for #edcampnyc 2012I continue to like using Google+ as my way to share thoughts, collect information, and engage with others and find it fits nicely between the brevity of twitter, which is often too short unless you link to something else, and blogging, which seems a little more formal.(I've written more about that at https://plus.google.com/u/1/114890399006791846298/posts/RFnhKgLxStd)Anyway, because of this I continue to try to expand my Google+ community in an attempt to get it be as robust as my Twitter community. For Twitter, I've found creating lists of conference attendees a good way to do this so I'm attempting to do the same as a Google+ circle for #edcampnyc 2012 convening at Francis Lewis High School (http://edcampnyc.org)Therefore, this is the start of my EdCampNYC 2012 attendees circle. This contains the organizers I could find on Google+. I will add more attendees by searching the hastag on Twitter (as there is little use of the tag on Google+ at the moment.) Unfortunately, shared circles don't currently auto-update so after I expand the circle, I will share it out again and link to it from this post.(Note to +Vic Gundotra and the +Google+ team: Shared circles that could be easily updated would be a great feature for this purpose.)If you are attending edCampNYC 2012, please add a comment to this post, and I'll add you to my edCampNYC circle (then share it again later). Thanks.2012-05-05 02:14:408101
Peter Vogel18,019New to Google+? Interested in Ed Tech? Are you a teacher? It's the end of the work week (well, here in Vancouver it is). Adding this circle to your Google+ presence will surely see your stream filling with content that you may be able to put to use next week. The people in this circle are passionate about what they do in their working lives. They share that passion through their presence here on Google+.2012-04-13 23:05:25408815
Eileen O'Duffy4,436Calling all Educators worldwideThis is my updated Educators circle. Most of us educators post and have an interest in a very wide variety of subjects such as philosophy, psychology, sociology. media, art, photography science, technology etc. For this reason I’m trying to curate and collate the best of education posts on +24-7tutorials.com ,my education news page. I’d like a wide cosmopolitan mix rather than a focus on Ireland/UK/US only. +Radu Jugureanu +Olimpius Istrate Romanian education system? +Juan-Pablo Ferrero Spanish? +chowdary kodali Indian? +John Macasio Philippines? If you’re posting great education stories of general interest, can you post public and tag +24-7tutorials.com ? (you’ll need to add the page to circles so I can share)2012-04-10 20:34:0838227815
Peter Vogel17,847Tech Ed CircleI am sharing the circle below for those who are looking for educators and those who actively write about education with an emphasis on information and communications technologies (let's call it tech ed for short). Just prior to posting this I used the Uncircle+ Chrome extension to comb the circle for inactive G+ accounts, resulting in the removal of around 60 from an initial set of 470. However, it appears that Uncircle+ is not completely reliable. At least one account remains that is apparently non-existent and a few accounts remain that were inactive during the period I specified. I wanted Uncircle+ to identify accounts with no activity since January 1.2012-04-09 01:23:424056313

These are all good suggestions, but they barely touch on the main causes of teacher dropout: lack of support from administration and too much micro-managing. The latter can be rephrased as lack of recognition of one's professionalism and abilities.

Teachers, like most people, want to have a say in their working environment and recognition that they have the intelligence and experience to contribute ideas and suggestions that the administration (district as well as school) need to pay attention to. This does not mean that all teacher suggestions need to be implemented, but that their suggestions get a fair and considered hearing.

What these students are complaining about is not really the teacher, but the curriculum and the style of teaching mandated by the school or district.

Everyone learns all the time, but in a haphazard way. Students often don't realize how they developed the intellectual tools they need to learn efficiently on their own. I'm as anti-curriculum as anyone, but EVERYONE, students, adult-learners, EVERYONE needs guides, interlocutors, people who will challenge their assumptions and conclusions, and others. Real learning is never a solitary pursuit, and can't be done in the middle of the tsunami of potential links Google and other search engines throw at one.
