This is the symptom of a problem that is being unaddressed...

Just Google "suicide custody battle"...and see what comes up.  

More than math, language, art, and science...we need the following to curve these avoidable tragedies:

1. An educational system that promotes emotional stability. 
2. An educational system that teaches HEALTHY conflict resolution. 
3. An educational system that teaches HEALTHY relationship dynamics. 

And studies have shown, that if these things are in place, people do learn more and have higher grades and are more successful as a byproduct.

Sitting in the bank, waiting for a notary...there is a girl who works here, who makes me smile, when I see her walk...it's not that she is graceful, but charmingly awkward...she is in high heels...too high for her comfort level, so she is slightly leaning forward and shuffling a little...like a little kid wearing mom's high heels for the first time...you can tell how she is wanting to stand tall, seem un-intimidated, and be respected, as one of the suits...but she looks young and her eyes shift to much to be someone who is confident...she is being brave, clearly...for what and why, I am clueless...I get the impression that she's new...and she walks over to an office, bearing a blank name plate on the door...and sits down to a desk without a computer and bare of everything except a photo of a little boy...which she looks at, then props... more »

A quick note from this new father.

Pushing the little guy on the swing, this weekend...

I usually just lightly let him sway...but there was a new swing at the playground...

One that I could secure him in...

And I was able let him go higher...and he squealed and giggled with delight...

And he would exclaim "weeee!" over and over again.

And, as I let him go higher, it hit me how I am already having to let my 18 month old go...how he wants to explore and desires freedom...and how my job is to love him and protect him, so that he can go away, one day...

And part of me was thrilled to see this growing love of excitement in my boy...and there was this other part that grew sad, realizing my days of cuddling up with him and holding him are fleeting.
