Currently in snow country waiting on fresh snowfall for perfect skiing conditions. Hopefully, I'll capture a few photos good enough to share before the end of next week.

In the meantime, while in warmer climates, I noticed an old Porsche (car) boat dry docked. Immediately I thought, Bond! James Bond! It's no Aston Martin DB5, but I think if a beautiful woman was behind the wheel, Bond would definitely jump in! ;)

Shy Swan
Mute swans are Britain's "royal birds" and the Crown retains the right of ownership (with an exception of "marked" swans). Furthermore, The Wild Creatures and Forest Law Act (1971) safeguards the Queen's rights of this swan ownership. Therefore, you are forbidden to harm these birds… and, they are known to cause huge traffic jams if one or more decide to stop on a Motorway!

On the River Thames, swans will swim up to you and eat bread out of your hand because humans wont (can't) harm them, making excellent photo opportunities. This photo was taken when a swan was searching for food at an inlet of the coastline of Finland. In Finland, they fear humans and are difficult to get close for a photo. In this case, I used my ninja skills to sneak two snapshots before it got wind of me and swiftly paddled away.

Bumble Bee Split

This photo is from my first try out adventure with amateur photography, ca. 2006. Nothing special or fancy here except a digital camera on hand, patiently looking around for a capture, and of course luck. This bumble bee sucking nectar, by all means, was (and still is) a favorite.

*Bucks in Velvet*

A couple wildlife photos I took during my July adventure in Montana, and believe me, these elk near the roadside caused a traffic jam! If you know me, I was eager to capture a photograph... So, I grabbed my small digital camera on hand and jumped out the truck hoping luck came with me.

As I approached where all the commotion was taking place on the road with parked cars and people taking photos, I spotted these two big buck grazing from a distance. Leaving the tourists behind, I walked slowly, inching closer and closer, leaving the last photographer in the grass with his meg-zoom lens in action; albeit, he thought I was insane by the look on his face. These two elk didn't mind me at all as I quietly took photos. Unfortunately, the largest buck would only give me a pose of his hind end. ;)

As a side note about bucks in velvet: rack growth is very... more »

Soupe au Cresson (Watercress Soup) -- delicious served chilled or hot.

Crazy busy these days, but always manage to prepare fresh, homemade food. With a few minutes to spare, I'm sharing my favorite variation of Potato and Leek Soup hoping you'll save this easy French recipe for a future try. This soup is usually served hot, but also delicious cold (Vichyssoise-style) on hot summer days as, for example, a company starter, with fresh garden salad, or (as I prepared this evening) with grilled tomatoes and trout.

As seen from the photos, I use different methods to create this delicious soup. Sometimes pureeing the watercress leaves into the soup base for a bright, creamy result; or, optionally (as I did this evening for a Vichyssoise-style), stir in the leaves for a cooler color with texture.

The key to success with this flexible hot or cold soup is to slowly cook... more »

Midnight Sun

Crazy-busy these days but with a few minutes to spare, I decided to share a photo of what near midnight looked like last week during my holiday in Northern Europe.

This image was unexpected while resting on the couch after a long day enjoying good food and company on the brightest day of the year, called mid-summer. It was after 11:00pm, lights off in my room, yet it was still bright. I looked out my window and saw stormy clouds roll by.. then suddenly, a bright glowing light from the horizon. Anxiously grabbing for my nearby mobile phone, I took a photo from my window before the color of midnight disappeared.

Too bad I didn't have my other camera while resting on the roof top. It was a beautiful twilight that lasted more than an hour. Now I understand why Northern Europe folks call this twilight during mid-summer, the "Midnight Sun".... more »

Wildlife from my Kitchen Window

In the UK, April 2012 was the coldest April since 1989, the dullest since 1998 and the wettest since 2000. The average sunshine over England and Wales was only 132 hours for the entire month!

During a lucky moment of temporary sunshine, I noticed a green finch at our seed feeder. To brighten my day, I quickly grabbed a snapshot hoping for a clear image from the wet kitchen window. I didn't notice all the outdoor activity taking place under the sun at the feeder until I cropped the image.

I wonder.. is the green finch looking at me, or is he looking at the blue tit selecting a spot on the feeder? Maybe he's looking at us both! :)

Hello Google+ Apologies for being so busy, but I have a few minutes to quickly share a photo I took of a simple (good for entertainment) recipe called Frittatas (muffin omelets). I made this recipe for brunch today using a large 6-hole muffin pan, but any size muffin pan will do, depending on your situation. Basically, all you do is whisk, pour and bake.. ~20 minutes later, voila! I hope you try it. :)

Muffin Pan Frittatas
6 eggs
2 green onions/scallions, sliced
1/4 c diced sweet bell pepper
1/4 c fresh Italian parsley (1)
1/4 c diced tomatoes (seeds removed)
2 T cream
salt/pepper
Additional herbs/spices (optional and your choice)
1/4 c shredded cheese (your choice)

Place a large 6-hole or regular 12-hole size muffin pan in oven. Preheat oven to 450F/230C. Whisk eggs first then whisk in remaining ingredients except the cheese.... more »

Still Traveling
Last stop before heading down; i.e., down on a +45º angle! This road was one of the steepest I've experienced, but I would do it again. :) The scenery was worth the hair-raising experience.

After a short break, we're heading out again. Next week we're traveling back to snow country -- hopefully to use our snow skies one last time before the season is over. Although, I've heard through the grapevine there's been a couple days of 5ºC weather, which is considered as "spring is officially here". Burrr! ;)

Outside Looking Out
When taking this photo at a beach that was freshly cleaned by a rake, I was looking for texture but was surprised by the optical illusion. This image is from a short outdoor beach-wall about two feet high and one foot in depth. The camera is taking a sneak peek from one of many small drain holes built in the wall. If you look closely at the photo, you can see a cruise ship from a far distance heading out to sea.
