A number of constitution amendments that were made by BN in the past continue to give them an advantage in the general elections. One important factor in their winning GE13 is malapportionment. Malapportionment is the reason why BN was able to win more Parliament seats than Pakatan Rakyat, even though BN actually won fewer overall votes. Malapportionment also reduces the impact of urban voters during the elections. Instead, rural voters, who generally have little to no access to free media, have a greater say in who sits in our Parliament and who runs our federal government.

Social Identity Theory, a prominent psychological theory which posits that group membership forms an important part of individuals’ self-esteem, is useful in explaining the attitude of some Umno members. When a group feels under threat, in order to protect itself members of the group start to perceive themselves as more homogenous in terms of attitudes and beliefs. They draw sharp demarcations between group members’ beliefs and those outside the group. Furthermore, to maintain the view of the “in-group” as homogenous it may be necessary to regard those who don’t conform to norms of the “in-group” as not authentic, or even as outsiders or traitors.

Tonnes of money spend on Youtube ads, even more money used for cash handouts to buy votes, a vote for DAP is a vote for PAS ads, yet #Najib still failed.
Deep inside, he must be feeling really stupid, all his sidekicks also knows this. He is the emperor with no clothes. With more than 20 years spent in politics, he knows that he will not be able to go down gracefully. This is not the sleepy-eyed Pak Lah, this is the son of the legend, the creator of BN, the guy that performed a diplomatic coup when he went to China during the Cold War, the guy that consolidated back UMNO's power after the 1969 election losses, this is the son of Tun Razak - no, he will not admit that he has failed. To admit that he has failed is not even a choice. Even his highly paid consultants will be wise enough not to mention that he has failed.
So he had to create an excuse - someone else to blame. Some other... more »

#ABU in principle, but I'm definitely sad that Saifuddin lost his seat.

6th May 2013.
So PR lost the chance to form the cabinet. But there are some things to take note of.
1. This is the second consecutive time BN failed to retain a two thirds majority. They failed under Pak Lah, and they failed under Najib. Islam Hadhari failed, so did 1Malaysia. This not a random occurence, this is a move forward to a real two-party system. A system that is not about the government party and the opposition party, but a system which revolves around this party and that party.
2. Mahathir said that 2008 happened because BN supporters themselves are unhappy of Pak Lah. Aside from Kedah, he is proven wrong.
3. Gerrymandering, and not phantom voters, assured a BN win. In most cases, the indelible ink did its work. It will be a waste of resources to continue harping on the ink issue. PR won the popular vote, the majority of people in Malaysia as a whole... more »

Finally! I thought this would never happen. At the eleventh hour, the Jew is back. The evil Jew. The convenient evil Jew that will always appear when UMNO's power is threatened.

Ini Kali lah.. pensil sudah tajam
Kita Pangkah Roket, Mata atau Bulan
Dacing Sudah Rosak.. kita jual sana.. kadai besi Buruk
Full lyrics:
Kami urang Sabah..Didodoi lagu BN,
Janji ditepati..Jalan berlobang-lobang
Rumah PPRT...Macam kandang ayam
Tiada guna..
Bagi tangki Biru, Tadah air Hujan
Janji Lotirik..hanya pasang tiang
Gelombang Biru.. janji siang-siang
Pandai butul tembirang..
Cho:
Bilang 1 Malaysia.. kasi gaduh saja..
Janji ditepati.. tipu pilihanraya
Kami sudah bangun..berjalan di tabasan ..
pakai adidas kampong..
Ini Kali lah.. pensil sudah tajam
Kita Pangkah Roket, Mata atau Bulan
Dacing Sudah Rosak.. kita jual sana.. kadai besi Buruk
Tidak diam lagi.. rakyat mesti lawan
Kita undi pakatan.. rakyat jadi tuan..
Lawan tetap... more »

So this is the reason for a former MB once caught trying smuggle cash to Australia to jump to PAS: Because Malay schoolgirls are not wearing scarves.
Sounds suspicious.
"Look at Shah Alam. Which party can restore the soul? It must be a party that fights for religion,” he added.
Muhammad pointed out that although Islam was the country’s official religion, there were still Malay schoolgirls who did not wear headscarves.
“Say Islam, but look, there are school kids who wear skirts, they also wear baju kurungs, they also wear tudungs (headscarves), so it’s not clear,” he said."

For a nation well known for its radical Islamism, this is very interesting. Compare this to Malaysia, a nation often promoted to represent 'moderate' Islam, but where anything related to LGBT issues are deemed scandalous and evil. I wonder how this difference came to be.

John Grisham is a well known author, but this is actually my first time reading a book by him. I finished the book in about three days, but I wouldn't really call it a page turner. I just needed something to read.
This book seems to be written with the intention of being turned into a movie, sadly a lot of books tries to do that nowadays. It is light in literal prose, contemplative thoughts, internal dilemmas and such, things that are nearly impossible to be translated into the silver screen.
But it is certainly not shabby either, I would say that its a good read. The story is about a conspiracy, (spoiler) planned by the protagonist himself, Malcolm Bannister, who goes on to change his name to Max Baldwin. The conspiracy is not what I would say legal or even ethical, but its justified in such a way to make the hero look like the good guy. A simplistic way of perceiving morality -... more »

My favourite song at the moment. Love the music video on Youtube too. A pleasant Sunday morning to all on the stream!

My favourite local artist is on Spotify. I'll probably take up the paid subscription. Spotify seems to offer me the option to download music legally, affordable price and a great choice of music. Great choice remains to be proven, but at the moment I can theorise if this kind of music is available (which is not really mainstream music), then it won't be hard to listen to what you want.
Using an Android device, its not really hard to actually use apps to download music for free (illegally). But for me music is an expression of art, and I can only really appreciate it if I listen on terms that is agreed by the artist and producer.
I do listen to pop and mainstream music, but I have a greater appreciation for independent and originally produced music, and for these kind of songs, I actually feel guilty when I download them ilegally, but yet I still do it as there's no other... more »

With the list of candidates being released, I need help with volunteers who can start adding all candidate names (People), and listing any publicly reported corruption (Issues) from reliable sources (newspapers online/written), and statements whether they have been for or against various corruption issues and if they are linked to any organizations.
The wiki includes a timeline, that shows what date, sources and resulting changes to the issue (eg. Person A Implicated, Person B Indirectly Implicated etc.)
http://accountable.sinarproject.org/issues/sarawak-mp-bag-with-rm190k-cash-and-loaded-firearm-stolen
Once person is in the database, it is easy to add new links to names (auto-complete) and the system will generate the summary of each person.
Email me khairil.yusof@sinarproject if you're interested to help.

Google+ dominates poll despite stacked deck!
Lifehacker is running a poll, asking "What’s Your Social Network of Choice?"
But they give Facebook and Twitter an unfair advantage: At the bottom are "Like" buttons for Facebook and Twitter. They're giving a tool to virally promote the poll on two of the social networks, but not the others. As a result, Facebook and Twitter have WAY more votes than Linkedin, Pinterest, MySpace and Instagram.
But Google+ is dominating the poll anyway, with (at the time I write this) twice as many votes as Facebook.
That's not enough.
Since Lifehacker decided to favor Facebook and Twitter, let's send them some Google+ love in the form of MASSIVE votes for Google+:
1. Share this post with all your circles.
2. Go here and vote for your social network of choice:
