I saw a profile that included "Don't circle me if I don't already know you." I almost circled them out of spite. Why be on G+ if you only want to interact with the people who already know you? I'm about to have to resurrect my "Google Plus is not Facebook" post from a while back.

...with mosquito and poison-ivy season on the way, plenty of folks would be grateful for an answer to a more mundane question: what is the neurological basis of the pruritic response? Or in plain English, why do we itch?

On Wednesday, the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control raided 29 New Jersey bars and restaurants as part of Operation Swill, a year-long sting operation that caught these establishments allegedly pouring bottom-shelf liquor into top-shelf bottles and selling it to customers as the real deal.

I don't understand why people get bent out of shape about having to manually refresh their G+ stream when Twitter has been that way for a long time. I would think having stuff get pushed down the page while you're trying to read it would be the greater irritant. I have close to 5000 people in my circles and quite frankly they post a lot of stuff. I like having the time to read it at my own pace. Your mileage may vary.

When asked if they’d financially and emotionally support a spouse who expressed a desire to stay home and take care of the kids and house full time, 91% of men answered yes. That shouldn’t surprise too many people as the arrangement of a working dad and a stay-at-home mom has been the status quo forever and a day. But what about women? What about the moms who have been calling for men to pick up the slack on the home front? Surely they must be thrilled to hear that 91% of men seek to support a woman’s choice to stay at home AND just as many of them want to stay home with the kids as women. It’s a no-brainer they’d be just as supportive, right?
Not exactly.

RIP Leonard Marsh
Leonard Marsh transformed a tiny fruit-juice supplier into Snapple, a national brand of fruit-flavored beverages and iced tea powered by quirky marketing and bold flavors.
Mr. Marsh, who died Tuesday at age 80, launched Snapple in New York with two friends in the early 1970s to supply natural fruit juices to health-food stores.

I've known people in this category, having Mexican parents but not able to speak Spanish themselves because their parents insisted on English proficiency.

I'm going to bed. I'm also shutting off my communication devices so I won't be tempted to stay up any later by any notifications or enchanting screens. The sleep deficit must be tamed. I have a major presentation to give in 2 days and I must get my rest.

The vast majority of our recent technological breakthroughs, I think everyone would agree, have been overwhelmingly good for society.
And yet, Hollywood still seems sure that this is going to change. That at some point, our meddling with technology will create HAL 9000 or Skynet, and technology will turn on us.

If the number of people on the federal payroll is about 10% smaller than it was when Ronald Reagan was POTUS, how can Republicans claim that President Obama has bloated the number of people on the federal payroll? How does smaller equal bigger?

I'm not surprised that a few of these are in this list. My major grocery store peeves are poor service, not enough cashiers, and dirty stores.

Have you ever noticed that city, county, and state governments can always find money to build jails and prisons? Few government entities will turn down an incarceration facility. They're even sold to taxpayers as being creators of jobs. How did we get to this point that we think more incarceration is always a good thing? In one town I was in a few years ago the largest employer in the area was the state prison located on the outskirts of town. Folks, the largest employer should never be the prison. If it is, you're doing something wrong.

Yesterday Microsoft released its new #XboxOne gaming system, and with it a new #Kinect camera. The original Kinect somewhat surprisingly found use in the clinical world, so it’s exciting to learn that the new Kinect is even more capable. One thing in particular that stands out is the camera’s improved sensitivity that gives it the ability to detect the user’s heartbeat by simply noticing the color change on the person’s skin.

One would think we would be able to tap into all this technology that we have to design better traffic control systems. Roads should be able to sense when traffic is lighter or heavier and adjust signal timing accordingly. If a large number of cars need to turn left at a certain intersection each evening from 4:30 to 7:00 the lights should give preferential treatment to those needing to make that left turn. If traffic is gridlocked the light network should be able to adjust the timing of lights to bleed off the gridlocked traffic so everything can flow smoothly again. Speed limit signs should be dynamic so different maximum or minimum speeds can be used based on time of day, traffic volume, and weather conditions. We can do better.

A stalled vehicle at one intersection and a wreck at the next intersection, so what do you want to bet that impatience or distraction with the former led to the latter?

It bugs me when people say "at 9AM this morning" or "around 7PM last night." The "AM" or "PM" takes care of that letting us know if it's morning or night. Just say one or the other, not both.

"It is no secret that Hollywood is trying to take down as many pirated movies as they can, but their targeting of a Creative Commons Pirate Bay documentary is something new. Viacom, Paramount, Fox and Lionsgate have all asked Google to take down links pointing to the Pirate Bay documentary TPB-AFK. But is it a secret plot to silence the voices of the Pirate Bay’s founders, or just another screw up of automated DMCA takedowns?"

I don't understand people who worry about things they can't control. I quickly assess whether I'm able to do something or whether I'm just going to have to deal with it. If I can do something about it I figure out what I can do and do it. If I'm going to have to deal with it I figure out my options to deal with it. Worry just doesn't come into it.
