Does anyone know anything about getting the smell of smoke out of a house? More specifically, if I were to buy a house previously owned by a smoker, would there ever be any hope of getting the smell out? I hear it seeps all the way into insulation etc. Anyone???

Blah!! Getting a house ready to list with the continual mess of 4 young children and trying to figure out if we should make an offer on a house that I love but I think is overpriced is CONSUMING me. I'm still enjoying all your posts, but my comments and my own posts have obviously dropped off precipitously and will probably stay that way until we're settled again.

Incidentally, anyone want to buy a 3 BR/2BA 1700ish sq ft house with updated kitchen and baths in Danbury, Connecticut? Awesome neighborhood, can't beat the yard, perfect for young children. We just have too many now or we'd be staying. We'll price to sell, you'd be getting a steal... =D

If any of you are into animation or know anyone who likes animation, you ought to check out AnimSchool! http://www.animschool.com/

It's a new online school for 3D animation started by Dave Gallagher, animator, rigger and former Character Development Supervisor at Blue Sky Studios. When it comes to 3D animation, he's one of the best in the business. His school is resonably priced and has a group of over 30 teachers currently working at top studios like Blue Sky Studios and Pixar.

I had the priviledge of photographing him the other day and can honestly say he is one of the nicest, most down to earth men you will ever hope to meet. It would be worth every penny to work with him.

My photography analogy of the day: when I'm brushing my hair in the morning, my baby loves to watch. Usually at some point he asks for my brush (by pointing and whining) and tries to brush his own hair when I oblige. After several failed attempts, he throws it and starts pointing and whining at whatever replacement brush I'm using assuming it must work better than his.

Just because you're not getting the "look" you want, doesn't necessarily mean you need new equipment.

All of my other kids were rather shy and stayed reasonably close to Mamma. This little one, on the other hand, is always making a mad dash to get away and takes advantage of any crack in the barriers. A couple of days ago he actually succeeded in getting all the way out the back door and onto the deck.

So strange! I posted this yesterday, got a couple of comments and then it disappeared. It's not in my stream anymore, but the picture is still in my "photos from posts" album. Weird, weird, weird.

Anyway, I thought this week's theme of other photographers was pretty tricky (as did many of you, I'm noticing), but here is my submission for week 8 (again).

Please meet Officer Arrington, my hero of the day. He is also the 2nd portrait of a stranger from my #100Strangers <2/100> project curated by +James Finstrom . After he rescued my baby I politely asked if I could take his picture, he looked at me strangely, but then I explained the project and said his picture would make a great story as the stranger who rescued my baby :)

So there I was finishing up my weekly grocery shopping at Costco. I unlocked the whole car with the remote on my key and put my groceries into the back, as usual. I opened both doors on the passenger side of the car and put my purse in the passenger seat, so I didn't forget about it and leave it in the grocery cart as I've been known to do. Then I picked up my baby and carefully wrestled him into his carseat. For some reason he REALLY did not want to get in his carseat today.

Lightroom Users Tip of the Day: When you back up your computer, make sure you also export your Lightroom as a catalog and save that so that if anything goes wrong you can also import it as a catalog.

When I sent my computer out to get the CD Rom fixed I had no idea they were going to replace the whole hardrive. I have all my photos backed up, but now I THINK I have to start all over on the catalog: keywords, LR edits, etc on all my photos that weren't previously exported :( Unless...there is a LR Guru out there with some magic tricks I don't know about +Matt Kloskowski maybe??

Alright, here goes...my first official submission for #100Strangers<1of100>.

I love this woman. Life is not easy for any of us, but smile wrinkles tell a story all on their own. People who can experience life and smile through it all - enough that their face freezes itself into a smile in the form of wrinkles should be the kinds of people we see on the fronts of magazines and strive to make ourselves into, IMO.

This sweet woman is a bagger at our local grocery store, but she is always decked out, hair done, jewelry on and usually a scarf tied perfectly to complete the ensemble. She reminds me of one of the Gabor sisters, only she bags groceries. She doesn't speak perfect English, but she is always happy and helpful.

I live on the East Coast where everyone is always in a mad rush hurry, so slowing down to take a picture is not always an option. I quickly... more »
