Three statisticians go out hunting together. After a while they spot a solitary rabbit. The first statistician takes aim and overshoots. The second aims and undershoots. The third shouts out "We got him!"

Upcycling juice or milk cartons. This is great for a mini herb garden but you can also use the cartons by putting them into your actual outdoor garden.

New microbe makes fuel from CO2 in the air - Thanks to new research at the University of Georgia, we might soon have an antidote for too much CO2: a manmade version of the microbe Pyrococcus furiosus, or "rushing fireball," that absorbs CO2 and converts it into fuel.

The microbe is a deep-sea "extremophile," thriving in violent conditions that would obliterate most organisms.

The Arctic will be devoid of ice by 2016...

...and "the final collapse toward that state is now happening," Dr. Peter Wadhams told +The Guardian.

The increase in global temperatures will threaten coastal cities and alter the availability of marine food sources, repercussions we're all very aware of. We can also expect tropical storms with more regularity.

It's almost as if nature is attempting to correct itself, albeit aggressively, by fighting back against its transgressors.

In this photo series Russian photographer Murad Osmann is taking the viewer on an intimate journey together with his girlfriend who’s leading him around the world. The pose is almost the same in every picture: the girl never shows her face, and the guy almost never lets go of her hand. The settings change from Moscow to London to Venice to a number of different locations in Russia, revealing their passion for travel.

Asperatus Clouds over New Zealand

What kind of clouds are these? Although their cause is presently unknown, such unusual atmospheric structures, as menacing as they might seem, do not appear to be harbingers of meteorological doom. Known informally as Undulatus asperatus clouds, they can be stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, are relatively unstudied, and have even been suggested as a new type of cloud. Whereas most low cloud decks are flat bottomed, asperatus clouds appear to have significant vertical structure underneath. Speculation therefore holds that asperatus clouds might be related to lenticular clouds that form near mountains, or mammatus clouds associated with thunderstorms, or perhaps a foehn wind - a type of dry downward wind that flows off mountains. Such a wind called the Canterbury arch streams toward the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. This image,... more »
