Jackson Square at Night - New Orleans, LA

I'm reaching into the way back machine for this one.  My wife and I are painting some rooms in our house which has us doing a lot of spring cleaning.  By "us" I mean "me", because I'm by far the bigger pack rat.  

All this cleaning made we check out what's been sitting on some old hard drives and came across a New Orleans trip from 2009.  This might have been the very first trip to pack a tripod and go out wandering at night on vacation for photographic purposes.

Google Gallery at ArtPadSF - San Francisco, CA

Thanks so much to +Shannon Sweetser +Corrie Davidson +Christina Collada and +Google Local San Francisco for giving me the opportunity to hang some prints in the Google Gallery at ArtPadSF (http://artpadsf.com)

When I was there yesterday to hang these 3 prints up, I saw a lot of cool art being installed.  I can't wait to check it out sometime this weekend.  

The event is May 17-May 19. (12pm-8pm)  at The Phoenix Hotel.  Tickets are $20 at the door.   (or more if you want to stay for the past 8pm after hours events).  There are over 40 rooms taken over for "galleries or other curatorial projects" .  Please check out http://artpadsf.com for more information

Civic Warriors - San Francisco, Ca

I hope the Golden State Warriors can win tonight to force a game 7 with the San Antonio Spurs.    My team, the Chicago Bulls, kept it close in game 5 but lost to the Miami Heat to be eliminated 4-1.

Civic Center Map Pin - San Francisco, CA

On the way back down from a +Google Local San Francisco event on updating Google Maps, I stopped by Civic Center to take another look of SF City Hall lit up for the Golden State Warriors.  I had already taken this look last week, and was planning on moving to the other side of the building (which I will post later), but tonight I had a Google Map Pin in my trunk.  :)  It's going to be fun seeing where else I can prop this pin up.

Attention! It's Hot Out There - San Francisco, CA

It's in the 90s(F) in the South Bay today.  Sure, my buddy in Arizona will tell me how it's not that bad.  The same as when I tell someone here that it's not that cold when it's 40F.  I don't do heat very well.   Give me a frigid day over a hot one. 

The photo is from last week's Union Square Fire Expo in the city.  The group Fire Proof opened their performance by lighting the edge of this megaphone on fire.  Hot announcement indeed :)

Got My Hat and Fire Scarf - San Francisco, Ca

I have a lot of photos from the 2013 Union Square Fire Expo.   My stream might be fire heavy for a bit. :)

I was going to shoot on my tripod a little bit for this expo to get some fire trails, but I didn't have a great spot for it.  I grabbed my camera and just hung out in front of the union square monument.   It worked out fine since I ended up with a bunch of shots I'm happy with.

City Hall Warriors - San Francisco, Ca

Another Bay Area team is in the playoffs, so we have another round of San Francisco City Hall lit up in the team colors.  6th seeded Golden State Warriors is looking pretty good against the 3-seed Denver Nuggets in the first  round of the 2013 NBA playoffs.  Currently the Warriors are leading the series 3-1.  

I was going around to the other side to get the look I got for the SF 49ers playoff run, but the area was blocked off. :(  I wonder for how long.

GlitterGirl and The Amazing Zihni - San Francisco, Ca

I had a fun time at the Union Square Fire Expo tonight.  This fire performing community is pretty amazing.  They all have such a wonderful positive energy.  Tonight they had performers from all over the place.  I remember a few folks were from Vancouver, Florida, and Indiana.

I wasn't planning on going through and finding something tonight to post, but +Brian Bach Sørensen can be so very persuasive.

Great to see +Joseph Fanvu and +Jason Fiori .  Jason brought his crew of "Rafael", "Scottie Elliot", and the ever present "Rooster :)

I was so very fortunate to be able to attend and photograph the +Google Local San Francisco event featuring "My Drunk Kitchen" creator/star/chef +Hannah Hart .  Alcohol was imbibed. Tacos were consumed.    Hugs were had.  What an incredibly fun and delicious night.

Haze of LA - Hollywood, CA

I was down in LA a few weeks ago for a short time as I made my way back up to the Bay.  I had a couple of hours in the early part of the day, so I took a quick stop at the Hollywood Bowl Overlook on Mulholland Drive.  It was packed, as usual, with sighseeing vans.  It's always a fun time maneuvering that little parking lot. (note to self: park on the street.... better idea: go somewhere else :) )  

The view was nice except the haze/smog was pretty thick.

High Fog Through the Gate - San Francisco, Ca

I went up to the City last week for Off The Grid food truck fest at Fort Mason.  Since I was in the area, I figured I'd go see what the bridge was up to.   The fog was low, but didn't look promising.  I decided to walk up to Slacker Hill anyway, just in case.  No dice.  

When I came back down the fog was little higher on the North Tower and just like I have many times after the higher view points weren't great, I ended up at Battery Spencer.

Makankosappo! -- Stanford, California

Had a great time last night at the #southbayshooters  Stanford photowalk organized by +Lisa Donchak.

I always try to mix it up a bit on these walks and setup a mini-location shoot with some lights. Last night's shoot was a Makankosappo portrait.

Makankosappo literally means "Magic Penetrating Killing Ray" and is an attack move popularized by the Japanese anime series Dragon Ball.

Photos of Japanese school girls wielding Makankosappo have recently turned into a full fledged Internet meme due to the upcoming release of a new Dragon ball movie.

I really went minimal when it came to shooting tonight at the #southbayshooters   Stanford photowalk.  I really enjoyed chatting it up with folks tonight, snacking on +Cynthia Pyun cookies, and jumping backwards.  

Thanks +Lisa Donchak for organizing!  It was great to see the folks I knew from previous walks, and making new face to face introductions.

One Last Stop - San Francisco, Ca

I had an awesome evening hanging out with +Google Local San Francisco and +Dishcrawl San Francisco and the attendees of Google's Mission Dishcrawl event.  

The last few times I've been in the city at night it's been a bit rainy, so I figured one last stop before I headed back down to the South Bay was in order.  Since the Bay Bridge Lights have been turned on, I've been meaning to get to this spot for a look.  yay, for a clear night!

Cutting the Surf - Santa Cruz, Ca

There were a lot of surfers out by Lighthouse Point Beach the other day.  It was really fun trying to capture the action.  I had this almost really cool shot of a surfer wiping out at the top of a wave but he flew out of my frame just a bit at the last second. :)

This makes me want to get a longer lens.....

Crissy Field Overlook - San Francisco, Ca

I decided to try the full resolution upload for G+.  First attempt, it didn't like my 17770x3290 Pano. Image size too big.  oops :)

I downsized the image to 10000x1851.  To upload large zoomable panoramas previously, I uploaded the image through picasaweb since there was no downsizing there.  Now that G+ takes in larger resolution uploads, it makes it a lot easier to get these large panos posted. yay!

Just a Little Race-C - San Francisco Zoo

Those birds around the Terrace Cafe at the San Francisco Zoo are a scheming bunch.  The cafe workers warn you to watch out for the birds.  One family lost some of their lunch when a few birds swooped in :)

SF Zoo Photowalk

I had a fun time yesterday on the SF Zoo photowalk organized by +Luc Asbury.  Thanks for organizing Luc!  I had to zip back to the South Bay for some afternoon commitments, so I had to leave the zoo-tastic fun early.    I had a post yesterday (4/6/2013) with all the people tags so not doing that again.... Hippo Says Ahhhhhhh - San Francisco, Ca

I spent the early part of the day joining +Luc Asbury on a San Francisco Zoo Photowalk.  Thanks for organizing Luc!   I had to leave in the early part of the afternoon, but it was a great time nonetheless.

Great to see +Brian Bach Sørensen , +Ed Sweeney , +Joseph Fanvu (and daughters) +Vega Paithankar +Jason Fiori (and daughter)  +Jonathan Goody (and son).  It was awesome to meet in real life +Lisa Donchak +Barbara Matthews and a few who either don't have G+, or I didn't catch last names.  Lorraine, Tim and company, Robyn's friend Anna.

Silent Tossing - San Francisco, Ca

I'm pretty terrible at posting fire jam photos over here on G+.  I share the sets with the FB group since, ya know, it's those folks in the photos :)  The nice thing about not sharing full sets right away in places like G+, I have a large backlog of random things I can post.  It's nice to have something quick at hand when I feel like posting.

No Sniveling - Tonto Basin, Arizona

A few weeks ago I visited one of my best and oldest friends down in Arizona.  We spent one morning out in the Four Peaks Wilderness riding around in his truck or hiking a little bit.  We were making our way back out to catch a Cubs Spring Training game and had to pull over to let about 23 ATVs go by.  The roads are tight so the first ATV passed us and said there were 22 more behind.  When the last one passed he slowed down to confirm he was in fact the last one.  

I love courtesy and organization.

I usually like doing long exposures for moving water, but I ended up liking a shorter exposure (1/15) over the longer ones (2.0s).  The rush and strength of the water is more evident.

Vernal Falls with a Little Bow - Yosemite, CA

Stop Tilting - San Francisco, CA

Okay, this was driving me nuts.  When I straightened this photo so the "STOP" was straight, the natural lean of the buildings bothered me.  When I straightened it for the buildings, the tilt of the "STOP" bothered me.  I decided to flip the whole thing over.  I think it hides the annoying tilts I've been fighting with.  oh San Francisco, and their tilted hilly streets... :)

Running for the Waves - Santa Cruz, Ca

I was down in Santa Cruz hoping the clouds would part to let a little sky and light through, but the afternoon and evening remained overcast.  I wandered around Lighthouse Point Park to watch the surfers for a little bit.

Got this double rainbow over San Francisco Bay Bridge at sunset last night. It was an unbelievable thrill even though everything went wrong! When I got there, it was pouring rain, dark and gloomy. The high winds kept getting rain on my damn lens, which I had to keep wiping off. This made for some horrible streaking in many images. I didn't have a heavy tripod either, so again the high winds didn't help camera shake. I had not cleaned my sensor in many months, so at f/22, every single dust bunny showed, hundreds and hundreds of them. I had no time to or materials to clean it so I just kept shooting. Then out of nowhere, the clouds parted for 3 to 4 minutes, sunlight shot through and right onto the bridge, hitting a sheet of rain that happened to be passing over at that moment. Totally lucky! Can Anyone Identify this Flower/Plant?

Okay, not exactly the greatest photo I've ever taken, but it was quick :)

My wife and I went up to the SF flower market this morning and she picked up this cool plant/flower.  The vendor called "flower of the mountain" or something, but that doesn't seem to be it.  Can anyone help identifying this? :)

Such a Pleasant Hill - Pleasant Hill, CA

I was up in the East Bay the other day for a dinner hosted by one of my friends.  I got up to the area a little early to get ahead of Bay Area traffic and check out a few spots I've been meaning to check out for a while.  This is from Dinosaur Hill Park in Pleasant Hill, Ca.  It has a great view of Mt. Diablo in the distance.   Didn't see any dinosaurs though :)

San Diego from Harbor Island - San Diego, CA

After attending a lovely wedding in San Diego, I spent the next day going around and doing a little sightseeing and meeting up with some friends that live in the area.  At night, my buddy, +Keyur Parikh, took my wife and I around the Gas Lamp district and to this pretty view of the city from Harbor Island.  (zoom-able pano)
