Trail pheromones are semiochemicals secreted from the body of an individual to impact the behavior of another individual receiving it. Would you swallow a parasitic worm to treat an illness? A study last year found that deliberate infection with worms effectively treated chronic diarrhoea in monkeys. They're currently being investigated for uses in treating multiple sclerosis, allergies and autoimmune disorders.

Disruptions in gut flora are being found to contribute to more and more illnesses. But treatments, which range from fecal transplants (I swear this is a thing, Google it) to infection with parasites are decidedly ... icky, to the average patient.
