Chris Robinson24,784General Science Circle- Final UpdateLast August I started this General Science Database (http://goo.gl/tp06X), which could be uploaded into Google+ using the import contacts feature. Over the last year, the database has morphed into a shared circle and more recently into +Science on Google+: A Public Database. Due to the increasing overlap with the +Science on Google+: A Public Database, this will be the last time that I will be updating and sharing this circle. If you are a scientist, science teacher, or science writer, please feel free to add your profile/page to the +Science on Google+: A Public Database by filling out this form (http://goo.gl/yEg7M) and circling +Science on Google+: A Public Database. 2012-07-25 14:47:31300101339
Daniel Simons14,199Psychologists and Neuroscientists on G+A shared circleIt has been a while since I last shared my Psychologist/Neuroscientist circle, and a number of people have been added since my last share. For those of you who have been around since the early days of G+, this was a circle I created of people who self-classified as psychology or neuroscience researchers. It is not a curated list, but there are many active G+ people in this circle. Free free to re-share. 2012-06-26 20:38:14203258

Mitchel Rodwell0+Duncan Hayes , +Hanii Leigh this is my biggest circle, #Intellectual. I'd advise you follow either this or #Political, depending on which appeals to you more. As you can see, I follow a lot of very serious people, which is the sort of stuff I post as well. There's way more than what I've shared with you on +Google+ . There's +Handmade , there's +Android , there's +Funny Pictures & Videos . It's not just about serious stuff, even though that's what I mostly use it for.Anyway, happy G+ing! Make circles, post things, fill out your profiles, and if you see something really cool, share it! I don't have a good #Music circle, or a good #Photography circle, so one day you guys might share circles with me that I'd like :)P.s. Some useful tips. Google+ has #hashtag support, so when you put a "#" before a term it makes it a clickable link to see other times someone's mentioned that hashtag. So clicking #Intellectual up there would take you to a bunch of intellectual posts. And you tag people or pages with a "+" before their name.2012-01-23 13:52:20463500
Daniel Simons7,076Psychologists & Neuroscientists Circle - UpdateLast night I posted an update to the Psychologist/Neuroscientist Google+ circle (http://goo.gl/qyK8j). Since then, I added a few more names (mostly people who requested that I add them). If you are a psychologist/neuroscientist and would like to be added, please post a comment here or on my post from last night and I'll add you for the next re-share. This will be the last update for at least a couple weeks, though. Please feel free to share this post/circle as widely as you would like.People who aren't yet in this circle share but will be in the next one: +Sandeep Gautam +Kerri Rawson +Raymund KHO K.D. +Nathan Fong +Derek Dunfield2012-01-04 14:33:13177191813
Daniel Simons7,076Psychologists and Neuroscientists on Google+Back in the early days of Google+, I started and shared this circle for psychologists and neuroscientists on Google+. I've added more people to it over the past couple months, so I thought the new year would be a good time to re-share it. Many of the people in this circle self-selected for it, and I haven't done a lot of vetting. Some people on the list are more prolific posters than others, and some post more psychology-related content than others. Please feel free to re-share the circle to your own followers/friends. If you are a psychologist or neuroscientist and are not yet in the circle, please comment on my original post (not the re-shares of it) so that I can add you for the next time I re-post the circle.2012-01-04 02:41:15158161115

Chris Robinson9,283Science Circle- Updated 12/2Many science-minded individuals have added their contact information to this Public Science Circle: http://goo.gl/X3PFl. I separated the active and inactive members, put the active members into a science circle, and I am sharing this circle. As you can see by viewing the database (http://goo.gl/K7QYK), we are a diverse group but we all share a common interest- SCIENCE! The three things that I like about this circle are: (a) the content, (b) self-selection- people added themselves to the circle and (c) it's somewhat transparent. Unlike many of the shared circles on Google+ where you do not know what you are getting until you import the circle, you can quickly get a glimpse of this circle by looking at the database. Please feel free to share this circle with your Science-minded friends. This circle contains scientists, science writers, and many others who post regularly about science related topics. One of my favorite circles! Please share this circle so others can find these science minded individuals!Don't forget to share a #ScienceSunday post today! Post anything related to science and tag it with #ScienceSunday . If you are a photographer, post a science related image and explain why it relates to science to you. If you are not a photographer, simply post anything related to science. Daniel Simons199Psychologists & Neuroscientists on Google+Back in the early days of Google+, I started a circle for Psychologists and Neuroscientists on Google+. It was a self-selected list -- people added themselves to a google doc and I combined them into a circle and then shared it. I thought I would share it one more time. This version includes everyone who added themselves to that google doc up until today (October 24). The list is not curated, and not everyone on it posts regularly. Some also might not meet your definition for a psychologist/neuroscientist, but I hope it's useful to you.Daniel Simons shared a circle with you.2011-10-24 13:44:20143172512

Trio Cleonice, why so rushed in the Andante movement??  This is a ponderous piece.  The tempo makes the middle section sign out (~18:00-on), but that is missing the point of this deeply thoughtful movement.  I just don't see the cellist Gwen Krosnick smiling at 21:00 as in sync with the music.  A major mistake of interpretation, in my opinion.

Great discussion by Nathan Pearson.  Another point (discussion around 16:00) re: latin vs. germanic words in communication--scientists (and I'm really pointing at MD's) can have a tendency to hide behind jargon.  For MD's this may have been so they could talk about a patient at the bedside without the patient's understanding (something OK if with patient consent, but otherwise at risk of being demeaning).  For scientists communicating with scientists, there may be more precision, but it risks hiding ignorance behind jargon if not necessary & appropriate.

Bravo... in my opinion, this is a deeper and more thoughtful interpretation than that by the New England Conservatory's Trio Cleonice interpretation, which is nice but more superficial and too rushed (~18:00 on in Schubert: Piano Trio in E-flat major, Op. 100)

Great article by Ben Fidler re NY Genome Center opening http://tinyurl.com/l2js5dx; best part--chance to acknowledge founding role of Tom Maniatis "Maniatis, the conceptual founder, and chairman of the NYGC’s scientific and clinical steering committee."   Hate to be picky but new center is 170,000 sq ft, not 30,000!  (~15,800 sq meters?).  Finally thanks  to MIke Bloomberg for coming & his advice "don't screw it up"... Amen

Attending Gordon Research Conference on Human Genetics & Genomics.  Great and humbling talks by so many.  Overall, I found talks to be both inspiring and frustrating.  There is-amazing potential emerging, but in some ways views remain traditional, and to harness the potential of current science and big data to transform medicine, I believe we will need a transformative approach for change.  I'm going to try and do this at the New York Genome Center

This work illustrates the use of HITS-CLIP to identify sparse information in ncRNA http://shar.es/C26cX ... the result:  identification of otherwise invisible exons that cause transcripts to degrade, regulating protein levels.  This regulation happens in the brain after seizure, and many of the transcripts affected may mediate compensatory responses to epilepsy.

I rejected the idea idea of having +New York Genome Center "Seek Answers in Genome of Gunman" http://nyti.ms/12AP11b ... I believe this is a mistake for +UConn to be involved in ...short term publicity will have a good chance of yielding here to stigmatizion without answers...finding genetic causes of disease in well defined families and phenotypes remains extremely difficult, and the effort here seems as misleading as it is questionable.
