Mia Voss25,912This week on +The Mia Connect Power Chat, we are going to completely mix it up and talk with Animal Sanctuaries & Rescue Organizations around the country.  +The Wild Animal Sanctuary (right here in Colorado) will join us to talk about their amazing facility and the efforts they are making to care for exotic animals that have been rescued from deplorable situations or were abandoned: TWAS has been rescuing exotic wildlife and endangered species since 1980, and is currently home to more than 290 Lions, Tigers, Bears, Jaguars, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Lynx, Bobcats, Servals, Wolves, and other wildlife. These animals were abandoned, abused, illegally kept, or came from other terrible situations. The vast majority of the animals were so-called “pets” - and were confiscated by law enforcement officials - usually within the first six months of their lives. The sanctuary also provides a permanent refuge to surplus animals from zoos and other wildlife facilities, where they face euthanasia due to over-breedingFounder #KathyNobles  of #GoingHomeAnimalRescue :Going Home partners with small municipal shelters and rescue groups, mainly in rural areas that do not have the resources or adoption pools metropolitan areas do, and transport dogs and some cats to receiving rescues in areas of the country where there is a need for adoptable companion animals. Presently we are partners with about 30 shelters and rescues throughout Oklahoma and the northwestern part of Arkansas. In addition, Going Home arranges 4 to 5 major transports a month to receiving rescues in Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesotahttp://bit.ly/GHART+Leila Martin from +Jim Burwell's Petiquette will also join the panel! Charles Lupica66,743          Top 1000 most followed active        photographers sharing content on G+                  Circle One: J to ZThis  is the second of two circles,  The first was shaerd on 16 May here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/103236949470535942612/posts/FPsHj9E2QEo.  The circles have been divided alphabetically to help give more exposure to people with fewer followers and shared at different times to help keep down the stream saturation. Please plus, comment and share.  This circle has no requirements for future participation but your support and encouragement is appreciated. It has been two weeks since I announced my intent to update my circle of the 500 most followed photographers on G+.  I decided to do things a bit differently this time and so I'll share the top 1000.   To build the circles and the list I enlisted the aid of  +Bill Wood +Gemma Costa +Jen Baptist +Katy Houlne and +Margaret Tompkins   They built circles and vetted profiles.  My starting point for this was a list of 2000 names generously provided to me by +CircleCount. I would to thank each for their help.I have chosen the name of the circle carefully to try to accurately represent the contents of what will be in the two circles. The script / finding namesThe script was provided by CircleCount and looks through the tagline of every profile on CircleCount to find the word "photo" or "foto".  If a photographer doesn't have a CircleCount profile they won't be found.  If one of these two words isn't in their tagline, they won't be found.  A few people I know have fallen into this flaw in my thinking.  To fix this, CircleCount has asked me to provide a "whitelist" of names that the script misses.  The white-list list adds another 30 or so names to the result.   Keyword world a personal viewpointIf you don't use the word photographer to describe yourself how do you expect people to find you in a search. "Searcher of cute pixels", "Creative spirit that makes art out of light"; these might be poetic, they might touch your soul but the world looks for content based on keyword searches.  SEO is going to do the same. Consider carefully the words sou use to describe yourself if you want people to find you using search technology. How was the list processedThe list was sorted by the level of activity.  People that hadn't posted in the last month (approximately April 5 to May 5th) were removed from the list.  This included people that hadn't posted or people that had posted only once in the past 4 weeks.  Again, this has some flaws but I'm mostly happy with the results.  People who are posting only in private communities o2013-05-18 13:17:2050114186132CC G+

Maki Silberberg0FOOD PHOTOGRAPHERS CIRCLE!A little while ago +Isabelle Fortin asked the G+ World if anyone knew of any food photographers she could circle.  Any mention of "Food" and "photography" in one sentence gets my attention so I decided to help her out with what she started.  Lo and behold, 270 people later, we have a circle.  And I have lots of new friends :DSpecial thanks to +Mary Helen Leonard and +Gabriel Bucataru who both had significant food photography circles in progress and shared it with usIf you're interested in food and/or photography, this is the circle to add!  If you're hungry, make sure to go get something to eat before checking out these people's delicious photographs ;)  You've been warned! 2012-11-30 20:41:1827018512CC G+

Gene Bowker39,058How to have a better stream - Part One #StreamCircle  Someone recently mentioned to me about how they couldn't seem to find good photography in their stream.Well.. here is my way to help that. These are active photographers who have a variety of styles and cover everything from point-and-shooters to some of the top pro's on G+.  I've been through each one's stream and they all can offer you something to make your stream better. Say howdy to them and see if your stream is not a more visual place.Like the circle.. feel free to share it and help share some great photographers.I'll share the 2nd 1/2 of this circle in the next few days.2012-08-13 23:27:51351946663CC G+

While the garden looks good when you stand at a distance from it, my favorite thing to do is to get right up on the flowers and stand there really quiet-like. Then the butterflies come and do their thing and you're all mesmerized by their wonderfulness and decide right then and there that you're definitely dressing like Mother Nature for Halloween, because that bitch rocks.

Ok. This is totally ridiculous, but I got all excited this morning and spilled my coffee when I saw a pre-order advertisement for my latest book in the sponsored/ad section on Facebook. Here's a link to the book on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1ln86Om. HOORAY!

WOW! My grandbirds took flight yesterday!! We moved aside the curtain and looked at them from inside the house - it must have startled them because they all flew up into the sky. We ran out the front door to try and find them and little birdies were flying everywhere dive bombing us and tweeting. They went everywhere in the garden - 1 was on the ground hiding, 1 was hanging on to my hummingbird feeder for dear life, and 2 were in the apple tree perching. 1 of the birds in the tree was trying to sit on the other one like they did in the nest. Totally cute.

So Beautiful ~ The species of plant Habenaria radiata is known for having its flowers shaped like a "Dove of peace". Amazing, eh?

GARDEN TIP - Rabbits do not like globe basil! I had no fence around the garden last season, but surrounded it with globe basil. BOOM! No rabbits = a happy gardener. Here's the link to the story - http://bit.ly/1qgP1hv #gardening #gardendesign #rabbit

This morning's update on my grandbirds - Elvis Robin seems to have a leaf stuck on his leg and the babies are complete pigs - practically jumping out of the nest to be the first bird to get the worm. I'm sure they'll fall out any day now - look at how big and feathery they are!

Quite the Robin excitement going on at my place. My grandbirds, Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Moe, now have pillows in case they fall out of the nest. Priscilla and Elvis Robin have been doing a fine job of feeding them worms non-stop. Only a few more days and they'll be flying!!

A very dramatic performance and story from Sting about how he found his passion after a very long period of writers block. I loved it - a great video to watch during your lunch hour -- http://www.ted.com/talks/sting_how_i_started_writing_songs_again #TED #tedtalk #Sting

Absolutely adore this iris growing in my mailbox garden this week. I took this shot mid-morning and love the sunlight brightening it up. The variety is "Silicon Prairie" and it came from +Kelly Norris  and his super-cool Rainbow Iris Farm (http://rainbowfarms.net/) in Iowa. Love it!

Fantastical news -- Robin baby #4, Eenie, has finally arrived. We now have a complete set; Eenie, Meenie, Miney, & Moe. They sleep in a little fuzzy lump together and both Elvis & Priscilla Robin have been working all day every day feeding them. Life is an adventure.
