Over 1400 people in the circle but Google+ only allows to share 500 at a time.If you want to be added to the circle, please like and comment (so I am not accused of spamming) and also I need to be able to verify you are in #australia . Pages welcome provided again they are #Australian  and I can verify that. If there is a lot of interest from pages, I might consider starting a separate circle for #Australian pages.2014-05-22 00:25:16501414CC G+

Stephanie Calahan1,218FABULOUS WOMEN ON G+ Part 4 of 4My goal was to crowd-source a list of Fabulous Woman on G+ that are Actively posting and Engaging on Google+.  I had originally expected maybe 50 names.  Much to my surprise and , I received over 400+ comments filled with love and positive energy to help curate this list of well over 1491 beautiful people. I would say this was a success and now I'm sharing with everyone PUBLIC.  I hope you will share it far and wide too.  #Google+ will only allow me to share 500 at a time, so the list has been broken down in to 4 circles.  Groups 1-4 do not indicate any specific preference to any woman.  I would have shared one massive circle if I was allowed.Fabulous Women on G+ Part 1 Can be found here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/117590169633617507930/posts/Srvv4xzeuYmFabulous Women on G+ Part 2 Can be found here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/117590169633617507930/posts/DRFwReXQvbFFabulous Women on G+ Part 3 Can be found here:https://plus.google.com/u/0/117590169633617507930/posts/7wiyEUFuKsHWhat You Can Do Now------------------------------------* Add these circles to your own circles by pressing the "View shared circle" button below. Then you can either add it to an existing circle of yours or add it as a new circle by giving it a new name. I've labeled mine "Fabulous Women on G+".  (You won't be able to see the circle on mobile or ipad -- you must be on a desktop or laptop.)  See other G+ quirks below.* Once you've added it, I recommend visiting the stream for this circle and browsing through it to see what you find interesting, encouraging, and enlightening. Then, share some love by commenting, +1ing or sharing the posts of your sisters!* Please note, this is a very diverse group of women.  You're likely to see some people in these circles who will see, understand, or experience things differently than you.  They may or may not share your similar interests.  With that in mind, a few suggestions:     -- If you disagree with someone's views, you can very easily remove them from your circle.     -- Please post public vs to these circles directly.  Each of us has separate preferences on notifications and we want to lift one another up, not bog down notifications.  I hope you all see some increased activity, make some new and inspired connections, and lift one another up as we share each other's brilliance.#fabwomenonG+If You Received Notification About this Circle--------------------------------------------------------------------If you're getting a notification about this it's because you've been identified me or others in the circle as a Fabulous Woman on G+ that is Actively posting and Engaging here.  Original Post: https://plus.google.com/u/0/117590169633617507930/posts/HHzp7g9aW9tI thought you would want to know that you have been identified as someone the G+ community should connect with!  I don't send out notifications unless it is 100% warranted. G+ Quirky Things to Note----------------------------------------* Google+ has a daily limit of 500 for adding people to your circles. If you haven't added 50 people or more today, you should be fine to add one of the circles daily.2013-06-09 22:47:5043927622CC G+
Richard Green12,571Here's an updated circle of people who have either +1ed, reshared, or commented on one of my posts recently.  This includes indirect public reshares, but only +1s and comments on the original posts.Since the circle is nearly full, I only included new people if they engaged with one of my non-circle-share posts.  Also, I excluded posts with over 100 +1s, for two reasons:(a) hot posts attract low-quality comments, including spam comments, and(b) as far as I can tell, Google won't give you a full list of people who plus-oned your post if there are more than 100 of them; the same goes for reshares. Thanks for reading my posts!2013-05-13 21:33:26483712686CC G+
Richard Green10,142Yes: I've made it to 10,000 followers!  To celebrate, here's a once-only share of a circle I'm calling the Surprisingly Successful Mashup Circle.  It contains:1. the most recent share of my Thankers circle (people who thank other people for including them in a circle that happens to contain me as well);2. the most recent share of my Engagers circle (people who +1, reshare and comment on my posts);3. my Plus Ten circle, which was a great idea that didn't work (people who post things with more than 10 plus-ones);4. the people and pages mentioned below.I'd like to thank the following:+Science on Google+: A Public Database for giving me most of my first 1,200 followers;+Full Circle, +JUSTIN MATTHEW, +Cesare Riccardo, +Trever McGhee, +Ludovic Moreeuw and +Euro Maestro for repeatedly sharing me in their high-impact circles; and+Shaker Cherukuri for implanting the idea in my head, inception-style, that having 10,000 followers would somehow be a cool idea.  (I think there should be a verb "inceive", meaning "to put an idea into someone's head, like in the film Inception.")Caution: having lots of followers doesn't mean that people will read your posts.  But it certainly helps! And here's the circle.2013-04-25 00:39:34498853893CC G+

Richard Green7,494Here's a circle of people who have either +1ed, reshared, or commented on one of my posts in the last week.  (This includes indirect reshares, but only +1s and comments on the original posts.)Thanks everyone - it's people like you who keep me posting here!  Special thanks are due to the people who habitually engage with my posts.  If I had a +1 for everyone who added me to a circle, I'd have a lot more +1s than I actually do.2013-04-02 20:32:0414712421CC G+

Richard Green2,872The "Much Better Than The Average Circle" Circle is full!  The bad news is that this means I'm going to have to break it up.  The good news is that you have one more chance to add it.I've looked at every profile in this circle and there's something I like about each one of them.  In some cases, what I like about the profile is that the person is a good engager.  This circle and my Acquaintances circle are the ones I look at every day. #circleshare #sharedcircles  2012-12-12 06:20:5150018414CC G+

STEM Women on G+2,184STEM Women on G+ Shared Circle (Release 3)This is the first crowd-sourced, collaboratively curated circle of Women who work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields that are also active on G+.We had some simple criteria for inclusion in this circle; every woman in this circle has a job that relates directly to STEM or is an advanced student of STEM. They are all active users of G+ and post Publicly about their STEM discipline regularly (i.e. at least once a week).• Import these people into a brand new circle, and then move people over into your permanent circles if you like what they post.• Reshare this post, to get the STEM goodness out to as many as people as possible :)• If we have missed someone that should be included in this circle in time for our next update, please nominate them at http://goo.gl/rvKEf. We will be actively curating this circle once a month or so, removing inactive users, adding new active users, so consider this a work in progress :)• Please also make sure that the nominee has added the STEM Women on G+ Brand Page to their circles (we cannot include the nominee in this shared circle unless she does that).--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This circle is curated by +Buddhini Samarasinghe, +Rajini Rao, +Christine Paluch, +Liz ℚuilty and +Liz Krane. Gabriel Fitzpatrick5,407Time for #followfriday ! This #circleshare represents everyone who has replied to or shared my posts since last #followfriday . Some of you have no doubt noticed, as I just did, that it's quite a lot smaller than usual. Perhaps my content was especially shit this week... or perhaps the fact that I'm getting ready to move has meant I posted less stuff. Who knows?Anyway, those of you who are reading this are probably following me, which means you probably share some interests with me, and therefore with them. So, add the #circle ! Add it now! Make your G+ world a better place! Thanks to everyone who commented. Have a great weekend, and don't do anything I wouldn't do... unless it seems fun. In which case, do it, and then tell me about it so I can do it. If you're being notified, you're in it! Share!)2012-05-11 22:23:154216114CC G+

I will be revamping and reorganizing this circle soon, so that's why I am sharing. The point of this circle is to share those who provide content, but might not have the audience to broadcast it to. Please share. I never say that, and I don't share circles often, but I think this one to be worthy of a re-share. :)2012-03-13 11:51:075314614CC G+

Did you guess it? The image, taken in 1996, shows the multi-coloured final calorimeter and target (in blue frame) of the NA48 experiment at CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron. The target was used to produce a beam of kaons - particles consisting of a strange quark (or antiquark) and an up or down antiquark (or quark).

This experiment, along with its predecessor NA31, proved the existence of a subtle difference between particles and antiparticles, find out more in the latest CERN Courier: http://cerncourier.com/cws/article/cern/57857 and http://home.web.cern.ch/scientists/updates/2014/08/fifty-years-cp-violation.

Congratulations to Jean-Baptiste Lièvremont, the first to get the correct answer to Friday’s post.

As Seen by Rosetta: Comet Surface Variations: This new image of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko shows the diversity of surface structures on the comet's nucleus. It was taken by the Rosetta spacecraft's OSIRIS narrow-angle camera on Aug. 7, 2014. At the time, the spacecraft was 65 miles (104 kilometers) away from the 2.5-mile-wide (4-kilometer) nucleus.

In the image, the comet's head (in the top half of the image) exhibits parallel linear features that resemble cliffs, and its neck displays scattered boulders on a relatively smooth, slumping surface. In comparison, the comet's body (lower half of the image) seems to exhibit a multi-variable terrain with peaks and valleys, and both smooth and rough topographic features.

Ten factors that contribute to success, and hard work isn't one of them.

1. Born in the right country in the right moment in history. If you were born in central Africa ten years ago to a mother with HIV, no matter how hard you tried, you probably wouldn’t get much food or medical treatment, so no amount of effort on your part would have resulted in an extended life, a good job, a marriage, or much else.

2. Born to the right parents with the right genes. While there is a constant nature/nurture argument, scientists working with twins and triplets are pretty certain that some things, like intelligence, are genetic. So if you won the genetic lottery and you were born with an awesome talent, looks, plenty of energy to work long hours, and some brains to boot, you’re on your way to certain success.

3. Born in prosperous circumstances. Early education and resources develop talent, brain, and provide opportunities for an early start. These are not available to those born in poverty. In a competitive world, it's the guy who gets there first that wins.

4. Born at a time when talents and ability fitted with opportunities in one’s geographical location. There are plenty of historical figures who discovered much that was rediscovered, but because the people around them were still superstitious, etc. they were not able to promote and benefit by their knowledge and skill.

5. Facilities to develop one’s skills. If one is born with a talent for ballet dancing, and there are no ballet dancing schools in one’s geographical location, and one’s parent’s cannot afford to move, then the talent is never developed. To quote from Gray’s Elegy, “Full many a rose is born to blush unseen, and waste its sweetness on the desert air.”

6. One has available time. Many awesome things need time, and that time is not available to everybody. They may have to work 60 hours a week just to support a crippled spouse, a dying mother, or more. Wilbur Smith’s wife worked when he quit his job as a journalist to write full time. Bill Gates had his full board paid for by his parents and worked in their garage.

7. One has the right teachers. The difference between success and failures often has to do with been taught solid foundation skills. Many people spend their lives working with erroneous information supplied to them courtesy of an inferior education or an ignorant parent/boss.

8. Parents who are supportive or who are able to provide sufficient opportunity to develop children’s abilities. This does not mean that there is no dysfunction in the home. It just means that there was sufficient opportunity for the child to grow in the areas necessary to succeed.

9. The right connections make succeeding a lot easier than those with no connections at all. When one moves in circles where it’s easy or possible to meet the kind of people who can help one move forward, it’s one more factor on the pathway to success. People who through the wrong religion, the wrong skin color, the wrong friends, etc. don’t have those connections first have to try to make them. So they have a further path to travel.

10. Sufficient safety or security to be able to work without anxiety. Studies have shown that people who are caught in a poverty trap have their mind working overtime in the background, thus draining them of the energy necessary to invest in creativity and resolve problems.___

Using the International Space Station’s Canadarm 2 robotic arm, Expedition 40 Flight Engineer Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency, supported by Reid Wiseman of NASA, released Orbital Science Corporation's Cygnus cargo spacecraft at 6:40 a.m. EST.

At the time of its release, the space station and Cygnus were flying 260 miles over the southwest coast of Africa.

Once it is at a safe distance from the space station, Cygnus will be deorbited Sunday, Aug. 17, and will burn up in Earth's atmosphere.

Cygnus was launched on an Orbital Sciences Antares rocket from NASA's Wallop's Flight Facility in Virginia July 13 on the company's second commercial resupply mission to the station, arriving at the orbiting laboratory July 16. It was loaded with almost 3,000 pounds of science experiments, crew provisions, spare parts and other hardware.

It was loaded with almost 3,000 pounds of science experiments, crew provisions, spare parts and other hardware.
