Middle Tennessee Music2,083*Tim Jones* just released "The Balladeer" and we want to help him celebrate! We're going to take a Memorial Day off from our normal MTL recording schedule by presenting Tim @111586161943896981522 on Saturday the 23rd instead. So get a comfortable spot on the porch, pull the cork out da jug, and settle in for an evening of Real Music!  Don't forget to wet your whistle in advance here:  https://play.google.com/store/music/artist?id=Afxrjhs7ng24wruhqffcbezh7kuTim Jones - Mid Tenn Listens Special Presentation ep 1032015-05-24 03:00:0050

Spending a lot of my evenings right now getting ready for the Taxi Road Rally in LA next month. Just showing off my new business card (front and back) and a wip cd. This evening, I started designing the cd using a cutout template printed on cardstock, hand cut, folded and glued. And the cd itself, with the label printed right on it using a lightscribe burner. In the end, it should cost me less than a dollar for each set I give out. It's really got me thinking a lot about how much we can do without having to spend tons of money these days.

Written while pondering the Song a Week, but the melody ended leading me to a song about 'Loss' (not the theme for this week at all). Lyrics are on the YouTube page. I know my falsetto isn't always the easiest to understand. Hope you enjoy it. In hindsight, I really shouldn't have been wearing a Darth Tater shirt while recording such a sad song. https://youtu.be/LRSLSIXDfM8

When I was younger, I tried to write the most complex melodies that my fingers could handle.  I had a Cherry Red glittery Charvel Jackson with shark fin inlays and spent my days practicing how fast I could rip through distorted scales and arpeggios.  I really kind of thought that was the sign of good musicianship, showing how technical you could be.

I won't pretend that my change in thinking happened overnight, but it is true that some of my more musically inclined friends introduced me to B.B. King, and that it left a lasting impression.  Here was a guy who could put more feeling and soul into one note than I could into twenty.  And, sometimes, when he'd play that one note over and over, hang on to it like the last shred of hope, throw a little vibrato in at the end, my heart would break.... in a good way, remind me that music is about feeling.  He was talking through hisinstr... more »

King, you rise above them in powerful song.

It is a sad day for the music world, and I can't help but feel a heavy heart, but it is hard for me to even fathom how many guitarists and singers have been influenced by his voice, his simplicity, his musical and powerful truth. I don't think the 'Thrill is Gone'.  I think it has been passed on, and will live for ages.  All I can do is take a moment to offer my thanks.

Guess who is the proud new owner of 'The Balladeer'.  If you're not familiar with +Tim Jones, he's a masterful songwriter with authentic country vibes, poignant and clever lyrics, and a sincere delivery that flows the air waves effortlessly.  His latest album is a 'collection of 14 original songs, produced by Billy Lawson, and recorded at Wishbone Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL'.  I'm honored to say that I've gotten to write and perform with Tim, and he's the kind of person, and artist, that has made my experience here at Google a magical one.  http://BalladeerMusic.com

New song by one of my favorite singer songwriters and people, +James Olmos.  Love the openness and sincerity of his music.

New song I wrote and recorded today . . . needs some tweaking but it will develope ;)  Hope it offers good things to ya

She will mend her broken wing
Upon the rock that kept her soul
She draws her strength from the dirt
As she roams - she roams - As she roams - she roams

All the wisdom in her hand
A blessed light within her soul
These alone can cure the race
As she roams - she roams - As she roams - she roams

Grace and diamonds never friend
And grace alone has saved her soul
Take the wisdom from her hand

This will be a great show.

+Tim Jones just released "The Balladeer" and we want to help him celebrate!

We're going to take a Memorial Day off from our normal MTL recording schedule by presenting Tim +Balladeer Music on Saturday the 23rd instead.

You will not want to miss this very special evening. Tales shall be spun, and if "the whiskey don't leave" drinks will be served and many many songs shall be sung by the master of traditional down-South country music!

We'll follow Tim up with a bit of a jam session / open mic thing with some of your other favorite pickers, too. So get a comfortable spot on the porch, pull the cork out da jug, and settle in for an evening of Real Music!

Don't forget to wet your whistle in advance here:

Nice interview with two of my favorite people.  +John Voshell is an incredibly supportive networking force for independent musicians.  +James Olmos is an amazing singer/songwriter who sings from the heart.  You won't find a more authentic guy.  I'm truly grateful to call them both friends.

Today's Featured Artist is James Olmos

I recently had the opportunity to chat with +James Olmos. We spoke about his music, photography, and performing online. You can view the entire interview and learn more about James at the link below.

Sounds like fun.  Sharing for my artist friends.  Think I may have to take a stab at this, too.

Major anouncement! Music and art are entertwined and much the same. Therefore Dead Air is announcing a contest for the best psychedelic poster for the show each month. Starting today on the first of May if you know an artist let them know about this. If you are one then get busy!!

The rules are that:
1) Poster must be for Dead Air.
2) Must be original.
3) Must be psychodelic!!

Deadline is the last Tuesday of each month. The winner will be announced on the last show of each month and the winner will be the entry that garners the most votes in the poll.

Share this to the four winds of concert, show art and poster communities here on Google Plus.

The winner will recieve 100.00 dollars and an interview and their art and name prominantly displayed for the month!

Ya dig?

Let's get it started!!___Sounds like fun.  Sharing for my artist friends.  Think I may have to take a stab at this, too.

All I did was share a few songs among friends, but I appreciate the mention.  Many thanks to the +Hangout Records crew for their perseverance and dedication.  Looking forward to spending the evening with them tomorrow.

The folks at Hangout Records including +The Dead Shed +Eddie Conlon +C Bret Campbell +Aaron Young +June Gaul +Frank Bluegrass
have been working hard this last week.  Several of us including myself reached out to a top google contributor on the google help forums a little over a week ago and brought the studio codec problem in HOA's to their attention.  A nice young lady named PeggK spoke with us privately and she assured she would escalate the issue.

If you remember correctly, for three weeks only two people could be in a HOA with studio mode working. A third person would knock it.  You would get a message when you went to switch to studio in red letters that said "Voice Mode In Use.'  During this time Open mic nights have suffered greatly.  Our fans and followers have been anxious for us to host some shows and get this matter resolved.

On Tuesday night this week, several of us got together to do another test of Syudio Mode.  I would have to say this group of folks tested studio mode 50-75 times during this down period.   Tuesday night turned out to be our first successful attempt to have more than 2 folks in a HOA for a music hangout with studio mode back in tact. So, every night this week, the Hangout Record crew has got together at night to keep running tests.  All have been successful, "knocks on Wood."
We have even recorded a few segments of Dusty playing.  We ran a Jam Session Test at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utems4RPPME.

So after all our hard work, after working with PeggK, after enduring all the issues we have had STUDIO MODE is back for now at least.  I hope it stays fixed because we have two important events this weekend which will be music HOA's.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/cmjgtt1pnlsnao24uqmla670g7o
(hangout with +Tim Behrens ) Friday Night

and

https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/cvsritunqfes25mffnno0ekn4ak
(+Dead Air ) Saturday Night.

With that in mind I'd like to that those that have been testing this stuff non-stop once again for their tireless efforts to get this handled the right way and as our own private findings.  That would be +Aaron Young, +C Bret Campbell +Frank Bluegrass +The Dead Shed +June Gaul +Eddie Conlon +Cecilee Linke  +Doug Jackson +Tim Behrens +Tim Jones and of course much love to our top Google Contributor again, PeggyK.  It was nice being able to reach someone from Google to fix this matter.

Thanks for reading this.  Please share and get the word out.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Looking forward to spending some time with +Middle Tennessee Music this Friday night.

Please help us celebrate May with Tim Behrens in this special presentation.

We'll spend some time catching up with musical genius, +Tim Behrens  and learning about the new music he's working on, followed by an intimate performance beamed right to your television, computer or tablet.

Expect to here a few favorites like "Da Junk in Da Trunk" and "Fallen Heroes" and be surprised by the debut of some brand new tunes!

Come one, Come all, there's room for everyon, even the family dog ;)

Big thanks to Tim for the opportunity, and to +Hangout Records and +MMHRocks Live Music  for supporting this  once in a blue-moon event!___Looking forward to spending some time with +Middle Tennessee Music this Friday night.

I am continually blessed by the friendship and support of amazing people that I've met here at Google.  Thank you, +June Gaul, for always taking the time to share your kindness.  You, and the friends I've made here, are a big reason why I'm still playing.

oh my goodness +Tim Behrens I had no idea how long ago you wrote this. I wasn't expected to live into Jan 2013 BUT I'm still here. It's the loving act of caring and friendships by those I've met over the internet that's helped keep me going.

So many don't call these friendship or the connections over the net "Real life" IF only they knew, the REAL LIFE that's become our world many of us live in then maybe they'd see their "REAL LIFE" differently

You have been one of my top favourite INDIE musicians since I met you not long ago (maybe a year).  You have such a way with words, music, composition, you put your heart and soul in every part of it.

THANK YOU TIM honey for this beautiful song so many will come to know, love and relate to.___I am continually blessed by the friendship and support of amazing people that I've met here at Google.  Thank you, +June Gaul, for always taking the time to share your kindness.  You, and the friends I've made here, are a big reason why I'm still playing.

My Sugar Bytes Thesys story

After having a ton of fun playing with the iPad version of Sugar Bytes Thesys, I looked up the VST on Musician's Friend. There were two versions, the CD version for $29.99 (this has to be a sale) and the download (instant gratification) version for $129.00.

It was such a huge difference, that I waited in an online chat for twenty minutes to ask "are these the same thing?" After assuring me they were, I ordered the CD version, waited for two days to get it (Musician's Friend is located in KC, so it came pretty quick). Upon opening, no CD. Just a download card and serial number for.... the downloadable version.

There must be a moral to this story. But I'm just sharing to say, if you want a heck of a step sequencer (interface is a little confusing, but functionality is great) and want to save $100, get the Boxed... more »

My latest attempt at scoring music to fractal animations using the iOS app FraxHD.  I had some trouble with re-syncing the video once I had written the music (forgot to set my fps from the start), so there are a few skips at the end.  Overall, though, this was a lot of fun.  #4 is already under way.

Find the comments for our particular songs and like them (the comments, but not the post as a whole):
Kimberly Hales Kime's song is called Love is Louder and can be found on the comments by searching for 'Little Ike Publishing'
Mind is called 'Move on Anyways' and can be found by searching for Tim Behrens
Do do a quick search, just pull up the post with the comments and hit Cntrl+F.
Any help is greatly appreciated. There are a lot of folks listening here and it's a great opportunity for both of us. Hope you all are well.

Here is a hangout that will definitely be worth checking out.  It's amazing that Hangouts give us the opportunity to interact with such extraordinary people.

Mario Armstrong with Indie News At Noon!

Tuesday, September 9th at 8 EST, Indie News at Noon will present a very special episode of “INN-A New York Minute.” Diana Barnes will host Mario Armstrong for a live, on-location interview from one of New York’s finest purveyors of sweets, Trilogy Bake Shop.

You probably know of Mario as “the tech guy” for The Today Show, CNN, Fuze TV or Inside Edition. Perhaps you've seen his STEM (that’s Science Technology Education and Math) series for youth - he’s so hyped about young people and technology that he helped build TechTechBoom.com!

Mario Armstrong was the first Chief Technological Officer for the city of Baltimore and IT director for the state of Maryland, and he was one of six people chosen to represent the U.S. as part of a delegation to discuss international business partnerships with tech entrepreneurs in South Korea.

These are only a few of his projects but somehow he manages to squeeze in a new program for the tech-savvy indie businessman called, “Never Settle Club”, sponsored by AT&T. The Never Settle Club is one of the hottest groups going, helping people all over to launch and grow their dreams into realities.

Top all that off with the fact that he’s a musician, DJ, and producer and the whole INN team gets really excited about the opportunity to spend some time with him!

Diana Barnes - host of “INN A New York Minute” - and C Bret Campbell – INN weekly news broadcast Co-Anchor & Producer - will chat with Mario about the Never Settle Club and the ways he uses the latest technological tools to reach and teach thousands. From his favorite gadgets to his predictions for the ways we’ll be working in the near future, to how it all affects his musical life (and vice-versa). You can expect a full and entertaining hour of knowledge and inspiration!

Diana and Mario will entertain questions from the live audience at Trilogy Bake Shop with owners Betsy & Vinny and online viewers will be able to comment and ask questions simply through the interface with Google’s Hangouts On Air, you can submit questions ahead of time, or be a guest at the live show.

Don’t miss this very special evening with Mario Armstrong on “INN A New York Minute”, live on the Indie News at Noon Youtube channel, Tuesday, September 9th at 8 pm Eastern, 7 Central.

I've neglected to share my song-a-week efforts the last few weeks, but not for lack of sticking with it.  Here is last weeks, based on the theme 'Respect'.  I wrote one about respect for self.  The previous week was a lullaby that stemmed from the theme 'Colors'.  It's on my soundcloud, but am excited to be getting some help from a very talented friend in recording the vocals.  I'll post it when that's done.  This week is 'Forgiveness' and I'm in pretty good shape to meet the deadline, excited to share when it's done.  http://youtu.be/yTs36hq_5M8

Every Day's a Blessing
As a songwriter, I think we always draw on our own experiences, but rarely do the words fully speak our truth.  As I turn 40 today, I decided to write a song that was about my story.  Nothing extravagant, just a reflection on where I've been and how far I've come, how grateful I am for my friends and family, and for the opportunity to keep moving forward with them.

Would also like to dedicate this performance to my friend, Lisa Covington, whose 13 year battle with cancer ended over the weekend.  No one can say that she lost, because her life has been an ongoing testament to the triumph of spirit in the face of adversity.  I can not imagine how many thousands of people have been inspired by her strength, bravery, kindness.  I had the privilege of sharing a few different stages with her, and I imagine I will always remember them as being the mostmean... more »

My heart goes out to her family and friends. I just want to say, in my own small way that my life has been better for knowing her.
Safe journeys, friend.

All of the vocal sounds were live, using two mics... one for a clean signal, and one for Improvox, a harmonizer for iOS. This week marks the end of my second round of participating. If I'm doing my math right, that's twenty songs in twenty-one weeks (there was a one week gap between rounds). Good times. http://youtu.be/GDfFHfLGt8c

Touching song and story +C Bret Campbell.  Really interesting to know the backstory on where that term came from, too.  Thanks so much for sharing.

Some Country Pickin' Took a break Sunday evening to just sit around and pick for a while.  Had a lot of fun practicing with Session Band for iOS (basically like Band in a Box, for anyone who's familiar).  In case you're wondering what I'm looking at while playing, I'm just watching the chord changes on my iPad.  Anyways, a fun diversion.  Hope you enjoy it.  http://youtu.be/3GybRwo_6fU

Spent part of the weekend archiving music files.  I never shared this one, but thought it was cool just for the process.  There's a great script for Kontakt called Mind Control (Orange Tree Samples) that allows you to filter sounds based on midi control messages (sustain pedals, velocity, etc).  Using that, I was able to use several Hang Drum sounds (8dio Alien Drum) and a string sound all at once.  I'd love to clean this up and re-record it, but the setup was too involved and I can't find the original file any more.  http://youtu.be/obDs1397w7c

The Thing I Forgot My song for the week.  I've been under the gun, trying to meet a bunch of self-imposed deadlines.  This one snuck up on me and was written and recorded in an evening.  It's rough, folks, but I'm excited for it's potential.  There's something that's so much fun about the energy of a new song, before it truly takes hold in the world.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.  https://soundcloud.com/timbehrens/the-thing-i-forget

My song for the week, based on the theme 'Bamboozled'.  Didn't really know what to do with that word, but while looking it up I found there were a ton of great related words in the thesaurus.  I ended up writing some kind of strange vindictive revenge groove.  The groove is kind of a throwback to my Dream West days and was a great excuse to break out the strat.  https://soundcloud.com/timbehrens/bamboozled-and-he-done-me-wrong

I've been remiss in sharing my songs lately.  Many thanks to my friends who have been so kind to post.  This one is called 'Only Love' and was my song for last week, the theme simply being 'love'.  I tried to write about our connectedness, and how easily it can be forgotten.

Sounds great.  I'm always impressed by the clarity of your recordings, too.  You've got it all worked out, and manage it with style.  I'm a fan.

So...! Our son was in a hurry and was born six weeks early. Glen Parker Searle was born at 10:30 pm on April 20th weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs, 2 oz. He is doing beautifully! Of course, him being born early has thrown us into a fritzing panic of trying to get everything done on time. Thankfully, our social worker and lawyer are bending over backward to help us. We need to be able to write two checks this Thursday (yes, Thursday!!!) for $1,350 and $1,500 respectively. If you can help at all, even if it's only a prayer and a share - we appreciate it all so much. We're trusting God to get us through the final hurdle and thanking him profusely for our healthy little boy. Thank you so much for your support. ~ ♥
