FREEZING LEMONS - WHO KNEW

Amazing frozen lemons. All it is.....is a frozen lemon.

Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the entire lemon and nothing is wasted. How can you use the whole lemon without waste?

Simple.. place the washed lemon in the freezer section of your
refrigerator. Once the lemon is frozen, get your grater, and shred
the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your
foods.

Sprinkle it to your vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, cereals,
noodles, spaghetti sauce, rice, sushi, fish dishes, whisky.... the
list is endless.

All of the foods will unexpectedly have a wonderful taste, something that you may have never tasted before. Most likely, you only think of lemon juice and vitamin C. Not anymore.

Now that you've learned this lemon secret, you can use... more »

Zen of Small Tasks: Capture, Reflection, Well-being

By capturing our experiences and then reflecting upon them, we improve our well-being. You can almost describe this as the positive side of digital media addiction.

Echoes from the past:

Since we know that unmediated reflection benefits psychological well-being, we explored whether and how TMR affects well-being. We built Echo, a smartphone application for recording everyday experiences and reflecting on them later. We conducted three system deployments with 44 users who generated over 12,000 recordings and reflections. We found that TMR improves well-beingas... more »

Google+ : The Tablet and Smartphone Edition

To tell you the truth, I was a bit lost at first. Were is everything? Then a deeper calmer voice inside me:
John, breathe. Just try to put a post in, and take it from there.
Which I did. Now, a couple of posts later, I'm seriosly liking the new UI and UX.  Even the four lines text minimalism can be reframed as a creative constraint for a gasbag like me.

Expect more pithy quotes...   :)

When you're on someone's profile page, and you click a #hashtag  on one of their posts, you should first see all the posts with that same hashtag from that person.

For example, when I'm looking on +Thomas Morffew's page, and I click on a #contentmarketing  tag, I should be able to quickly browse through all his posts about that topic. Once I'm done with all those (or if there aren't any), then show me posts from other people.

This would be incredibly useful and it would encourage more rapid adoption, I think. It would also get us a bit closer to +Jeff Sayre's "channels" idea. (https://plus.google.com/u/0/112526081195315983895/posts/bCJuCAMZcQM)

+Chris Messina, perhaps you all already thought of this and rejected the idea for some reason I'm not seeing. I think it'd be super cool though.

The New Vertical Awesomeness of Google+

Are you also enjoying the portrait-orientation in the new column layout?  I love it.  I also love the multiple columns... I'm able to see a lot more photos at once -- so convenient and fun!  Did any of you switch back to the one-column view?   I see +Tom Anderson also likes the vertical orientation and he just posted one of my favorite photos ever!  I talked about this with +Thomas Hawk too in person -- he's also a big fan of this orientation.

This photo is of the Aurora Australis in New Zealand.  People ask if it is multiple photos... nope, just one exposure, but yes, post-processing was involved, unapologetically.

My first Garbologie lead

Some of you will be aware that I am in the process of launching a new waste business called Garbologie. It will develop into a network of specialised waste processing businesses, starting with mattress dismantling.

Well, in some exciting news, I got my first enquiry to supply Garbologie with mattresses and I haven't even done any advertising yet! None. Not a peep from me. What I have done is my announcement here, in my blog, on FB and twitter that the business is coming.

Yep, that's right. I was contacted by a large local landfill wanting me to take their mattresses (several thousand per year). How did they find me? Google! All of this work in blogging, building a presence in G+, Facebook, Twitter. Worth it.

Building a cloud of authenticity and chatter is not just fun, but it also pays.

Wicked Problem
"It is hard to say what the problem is, to define it clearly or to tell where it stops and starts. There is no “right” way to view the problem, no definitive formulation. There are many stakeholders, all with their own frames, which they tend to see as exclusively correct. Ask what the problem is and you will get a different answer from each. Someone can always say that the problem is just a symptom of another problem and that someone will not be wrong. The problem is inter-connected to a lot of other problems; pulling them apart is almost impossible. In a word: it’s a mess.

But it gets worse. Everywicked... more »

This is going to be a long post but here’s a spoiler - it probably feels exactly how you’d expect. Of course I feel pressure to not let it change my posting habits. Of course it’s impacted how I post anyway. Of course it’s overwhelming. Of course it’s empowering. I can only speak to my personal experience. I have lots of friends with far more followers than me, but this isn’t a general overview of what it’s like for most people. This is how one million pairs of eyes impacts me. Let’s start with how I even got here...

Today, 115 years ago, the Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka was born in Warsaw.

"I was the first woman to paint cleanly, and that was the basis of my success. From a hundred pictures, mine will always stand out. And so the galleries began to hang my work in their best rooms, always in the middle, because my painting was attractive. It was precise. It was 'finished'." (Tamara de Lempicka)

Living in St Petersburg during the revolution, de Lempicka flew to Paris with her husband, where she had her breakthrough after seven years of a struggling poor artist’s life. Her paintings combining cool sobriety with a certain Renaissance influence and clear lines and colours with a mostly sensual sujet found an enthusiastic audience during the 1925 Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs etindustr... more »

What's the fastest way to type up and organize my notes?

Like the guy in this photo, I could use some help. I have too many notes! Scraps of paper, notebooks, pages marked in books (seriously, look at these: http://goo.gl/jB9Au), napkins... You name it, I've scribbled on it!

I need a program/app/website/machine/magic wand that I can use to 1) type everything up in quick succession, 2) add tags/categories to each note with lightening speed, and 3) view them by tag/category for easier sorting, consolidating, and deleting.

Is there anything out there meant for this task? Apps like Evernote come to mind, but they're better for adding one note at a time as you find something you want to save; they're terribly slow for adding large batches of notes all at once.
