I am down in Borneo now, my 5th visit, in the past I've come for the abundant wildlife of the rain forest but on this trip I'll be heading to some small remote islands off the NE coast to see what I can find. Internet connections will be spotty to say the least but I'll try and share images when I can. www.artwolfe.com

On the 33 anniversery of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens so many of you shared your memories of that day. By request we have dug out a few of Art's images that he created before and after the eruption. Art shared his story on the original post on the 18th

Here the results from yesterday's shoot - it was so much fun. I just love finding abstract compositions among chaos. It's more than just snapping a shot of rust and lines - you have to think like an artist composing the image with the elements at hand looking for lines and pattern and ultimately a composition that is pleasing and contains the right energy. I think I foudn it in these. While ordinarily I don't tend to "over photoshop" my images I let my imagination run a bit with these, after all they are abstractions and found art, I wasn't documenting the how rail cars rust with time... www.artwolfe.com

Today was my last day in town before heading off to Borneo and Australia early Monday morning for the next couple of weeks. I had a great time teaching a workshop to a wonderful group on Saturday here in Seattle, thank you to all who attended, and today was set aside to just hang out with a couple of good friends. We drove around the ship yards in Tacoma and Seattle looking to see what sort of "found art" we might come across... something gritty, with an edge to it is what was on the agenda today. I'm very pleased with what I got, it was a great day, I'll see if I can get someone to share the images while I'm gone, in the mean time here are few snaps from the field taken on an IPhone as I was working these rail cars looking for abstract compositions where it all came together. www.artwolfe.com

I love the timeless quality of this image. Too bad more kids are more inclined to get out and enjoy nature vs. staying indoors these days. I don't see anyone texting in this scene...

Did you live in Washington State 33 years ago? If you did chances are you remember where you were on this day - the day Mt. St. Helens blew her top! Prior to 1980, Mount St. Helens had the shape of a conical, youthful volcano sometimes referred to as the Mount Fuji of America. During the 1980 eruption the upper 1,300 ft of the summit was removed by a huge debris avalanche, leaving a 1.2 x 2.2 mi horseshoe-shaped crater now partially filled by a lava dome and a glacier.

It's also now an official go topless day for Jeeps - I wonder if the two are related...

I was down in San Francisco the other day doing a Google talk with Nik, my talk will be posted in the next couple of weeks. During some down time I took a walk and saw a couple of macaws flying above the buildings - I tracked them down to a park in the city where I met the owner who had raised them and allows them to exercise their wings free flying over the park and neighborhoods. While there I wandered around looking for some "found art", graffiti and reflections, lines and pattern... Later a couple of bubble artists showed up to the delight of the picnickers and couples enjoying the day outside. Lastly I couldn't resist crossing the Golden Gate Bridge for some photos from the famous Battery Spencer vista point. It was a good day.

Check out the blog today for a story on fellow photographer Justin Lewis.
Justin has spent the last two years dedicating his life to an eight phase photo-documentary project called 70 Degrees West. The project follows a single line of longitude from Greenland to Antarctica, illustrating the impact our modern civilization has on fragile eco-regions and cultures who dwell there.

I'm still getting used to how G+ works... I guess putting a photo up as a cover shot isn't enough for people to see it? so I'll share this image as well. After all, that's why we're all here, to share stuff with each other.

Selene (the name of this beautiful Andalusian horse owned by Linda Dewilde-Petersen) has been a huge hit in the gallery ever since she was printed and put up on display. Selene anchors a corner of the gallery where Art will be displaying a variety of horse images matted and ready for purchase. Like all images shared here on FB you may purchase this print in a variety of sizes, just give us a call and we'll walk you through sizes, options and pricing.

I led a tour to Myanmar about a month ago, perhaps my last tour to the country as it is on the precipice of great changes as diplomatic relations are opening up and bringing in a lot of money and western influences. If you had ever considered seeing this country this is the time, don't wait. Check out the web site for Gavriel Jecan as someone you could hire to take you in to see this beautiful country.

I would like to personally thank everyone who helped to support The Blue Earth project on Kickstarter. Your pledges help to put them over the top for the funding needed for their next project, The Blue Earth Book. It's efforts like this, showcasing this beautiful planet we all share and are responsible for that serves to keep the conservation conversation in our shared consciousness. (and no, I can't say that three times fast!) They were there to help me out when I needed it for a book project and I thank you for being there for them as well. - Art

Vanishing Act
http://store.artwolfe.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=36
This was a great book to work on and a lot of fun to present which has seen a lot of interest recently. I first started photographing wild animals as portraits classic head shots, and then later began to step back and include more of their natural environment and soon the idea for Vanishing Act emphasizing their abilities to blend in with their environment was born. Enjoy this sample of images from the book where at first glace you may not see a thing but with quiet study the animals will reveal themselves.

2012 was a great year full of adventures, moving the Seattle Gallery, opening the Las Vegas Gallery and releasing the Human Canvas body of work just to name a few... here is a brief look back and for those who enjoy slide shows the staff has put together a much larger one up on the blog at: http://blog.artwolfe.com
For 2013 I propose we skip all the new years resolutions to loose weight and exercise more and instead lets resolve to get out and explore this beautiful planet we share - whether it's a day trip from your home, a weekend adventure near by, or even stretching out to other countries and continents - get out, enjoy, embrace this beautiful planet and share what you've seen with others inspiring them to do the same.
