Please let me know if you know of an event supporting this movement in your area.

Curated by another person, who I lost in the feed march.

PaperTab:

Yes. The wires are annoying.
Yes. Its black and white. (ie. Monochromatic.)

Now, get past that and marvel at the Software and interface being used.
Bend detectors for actions like forward and back?
proximity for double screen?
Desk work zones?

The tech is cool, but the usability of this product is inspired.

WHAT'S UP IN KC this weekend

I'll make the effort to summarize invites and news articles that I get and that I read in this community. (I'll come up with or perhaps a community member can volunteer some design work to affix to each of these sorts of notifications to denote an weekender guide to KC.

Currently this outreach program is seeking help to assist those in the community likely to suffer during the most cold part of the season.  They are engaging in a "TODAY ONLY - Project Warmth Special Telethon and Coat & Blanket Drive"

Nobody Likes a dead Landing page.

This is supposed to be about communities.  Well, KC is mine, and I want to wring from it every drop of its experience.

So please, so long as its respectful, let's create a message board for what is KC. Events, Concerts, Personalities, and experiences (see urban legends) of what is going on in this town.

Today is the day, in a few scant hours (and you can watch it live) the Startup Village will begin being serviced by Google Fiber, 100x faster than most domestic internet services today.

What marks this as impressive, is that areas able to be serviced by google fiber have been a recent hot spot for investors.  Companies and individual Entrepreneurs have been seeking to lease or purchase access to the service creating a micro housing bubble in the area.

Interesting backlash, but not unpredictable.  Who wouldn't consider purchasing a house to lease out, and then turn the basement into a mini data center.   The question will be, at the end of this coming year, how will this community be changed.

I hope and pray for those impacted find help, and find peace for the senseless act of violence committed at the movie opening.

I live in KC where AMC holds its headquarters, they've obviously had a series of releases following the tragic shootings. Here is one just to make sure nobody goes in costume today.

"Kansas City-based AMC Theatres says they're reinforcing security procedures after today's shooting in Colorado. In a statement, the company announced that they will quote, "not allow any guests into our theatres in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings. " They're also working closely with local police and law enforcement.

My thoughts are with the victims' families and friends.

Free today Aisle 411 on iOS and Android.

The initial release doesn't so much as build off the existing competitors, but rather marks a new attempt to map the retail market space in the next in "taxi cab" geometry  - the ability to optimize cost on items, time in store and the like.

With companies mining your personal data to gather your "pain point" (the point at which a company maximizes its profits for each individual, versus them walking away)  the aggregate power resides in those able to collect and harness this dataset.

This app (and its genre) suggest the counter movement.

Here we go. Another shining example of the United States Government being luddites & completely out of touch with technology and personal property. This WILL result in discrimination, there is no question about that.

I propose that as elected public servants, every member of congress and other branches of government hand over all their Facebook & Twitter passwords to US and let us look in their priviate affairs. They are also "interviewing" for jobs when up for election and citizens of the United States. Fair is fair.

From the Pirate Bay -- a more literal approach to Cloud Computing.

"We were down a few hours earlier today. There’s no need to worry, we haven’t been raided this time. We’re only upgrading stuff since we’re still growing.

One of the technical things we always optimize is where to put our front machines. They are the ones that re-direct your traffic to a secret location. We have now decided to try to build something extraordinary.

With the development of GPS controlled drones, far-reaching cheap radio equipment and tiny new computers like the Raspberry Pi, we’re going to experiment with sending out some small drones that will float some kilometers up in the air. This way our machines will have to be shot down with aeroplanes in order to shut down the system. A real act of war.

As Apple loses market share, its costs to manufacture are actually increasing due to massive competition…

Apple's losing tablet market share faster than it lost smartphone market share

Android has moved to over 44% market share in tablets from less than 3% in less than a year and a half. That's amazing and much faster growth than it exhibited in smartphones – a category in which Android literally dominated in worldwide and US smartphone growth (as well as installed base re: US) in just a few short years. Apple dropped from just over 96% to just under 55% in the same time frame. Again, as with the smartphones, the Android tablet tech is superior to that of iOS products and as iOS normalizes the difference, margins will suffer. Margins will drop (is dropping) faster for tablets because prices are coming down as fast as tech is increasing.

JAPAN WILL HAVE A SPACE ELEVATOR BY 2050

Construction company Obayashi Corp has announced it will have built a space elevator capable of shuttling passengers 36,000 kilometers above the Earth by 2050.

The company plans to use carbon nanontubes, which are 20 times stronger than steel, to produce the cables required for the elevator. Those cables will be stretched to a counterweight 96,000 kilometers above our planet, about one-fourth of the distance between the Earth and the moon.
