Ain’t Misbehavin’ – Turbulence, Solar Flares and Magnetism
What’s more fun than something that misbehaves? When it comes to solar dynamics, we know a lot, but there are many things we don’t yet understand. For example, when a particle filled solar flare lashes out from the Sun, its magnetic field lines can do some pretty unexpected things – like split apart and then rapidly reconnect. According to the flux-freezing theorem, these magnetic lines should simply “flow away in lock-step” with the particles. They should stay intact, but they don’t. It’s not just a simple rule they break… it’s a law of physics.

Since I was laid off last month my natural rhythm has taken over, which means I'm going to bed when the sun comes up. It's an easy habit to get into, especially in the desert. And when you live with someone on a standard weekday job schedule, you want to be on their time, or at least closer to. So I'm staying up all night and all day tomorrow. Me thinks its time to re-watch all of #Sherlock. Seriously, if you enjoy #cerebral television, watch this show! It's absolutely brilliant. I don't watch much TV, but wow, this show is so interesting. Fair warning, the format is three 1.5 hour episodes per series/season, happily all of which are available on #Netflix. I'm waiting anxiously for series/season 3.

My hobby when I can, all done with cheap, horrible cameras (iphone, Cannon AE-80 with light leak I tried to get fixed multiple times, cheap digitals, and disposables). Someday my lovely DSLR.

Every time I look on G+ at all the beautiful photography it makes me ache. I haven't had access to a good camera in a very long time. I miss doing photo projects. I hope I can afford a good digital SLR soon. I want to shoot so badly.

Here's what I've been doing for a good part of the day. I built this tree house in my jungle. I think it looks cool. For the non-gamer, this is Minecraft.

One more for the pet owners... I suggest, at the very least, ordering the free sticker from the ASPCA to put on your door/window to notify emergency workers of the pets you have in your home. Keeping an emergency kit ready for your pets is a very good idea, too.

I wanted to share a handy link with those of you that have pets. The ASPCA has a very extensive list of toxic and non-toxic plants.

I've surpassed the halfway mark of my goal to raise $500 by weeks end to avoid the bad times ... I'm just over 60% at this time and the support for me and mine, as well as the +1000 zombies project has been amazing!
I'm just about to pour a late night cup of coffee and jump into an evening hangout to get some zombies painted up.
Your support is still needed, so if you know anyone that wants a zombie portrait and be part of the 1000 zombies art project, its as little as 10 bucks.
If you already got drawn by me and want to own the original artwork, what you think its worth in my paypal ( idrawzombies@hotmail.com)
If you want your own custom commission, make me an offer I can't refuse!!
The fire sale is still on, and tomorrow I'll be listing every original I have for sale. From zombie Yoda to Captain James Z... more »

I think these two have a lot in common... First one is of Nutmeg many months ago, the second is of Mars just a few minutes ago.

5/21/12 - Nutmeg is one year old today! My beautiful girl is such a wonderful part of my life. She's unbelievably sweet and so very smart. And now there's Mars. My lovely little boy woke me up this morning by purring in my ear. I couldn't ask for better.
My kids have had a rough week though. Mars had an eye infection (apparently they are fairly common in kittens) and Nutmeg had one of her scent sacs rupture. Thankfully both are easily treatable. Add in my dental work and the capsaicin burn I got on my left hand and it's been a rough week for the family medically speaking. I certainly hope this week is less painful.

This is not the USS Voyager, it's actually the USS Eurisko, an Intrepid Mark II Class...computer. Complete with glowing Delta Flyer mouse, this glorious case mod by Sander van der Veldon took five months to complete, and the effort shows. From the slick hull design to the water cooled nacelles (which are movable!), you'd be hard pressed to find a better case. My computer is a Federation Starship, your argument is invalid ;)
Do check out the video after the break, it's great!

You know that really cool feature in gmail where you press "?" and a pop-up of all the keyboard shortcuts appear?
That works in G+ too.
Cool huh?

This story makes my blood boil.
"Why didn't you arrest him?" we asked Bates.
"Because he hadn't committed a criminal law," the officer answered.
Bates said the amount of money and the way it was packed gave him reason to be suspicious.
"The safest place to put your money if it's legitimate is in a bank account," he explained. "He stated he had two. I would put it in a bank account. It draws interest and it's safer."
"But it's not illegal to carry cash," we noted.
"No, it's not illegal to carry cash," Bates said. "Again, it's what the cash is being used for to facilitate or what it is being utilized for."
NewsChannel 5 Investigates noted, "But you had no proof that money was being used for drug trafficking, correct? No... more »

I really, really, really want some lenses for my iPhone. I won't be able to buy myself a nice camera for a while, so this is probably the best I can do in the meantime (my iPhone has a better resolution than the old digital camera I have and my Cannon AE-80 has a light leak). I miss taking photos and I need the lenses to give myself some flexibility with the iPhone camera. They also make tripods, which I would need for macro shots. Gah! I want to start shooting again.

Earth and Moon from Saturn
In the shadow of +Saturn, unexpected wonders appear. The robotic +Cassini–Huygens spacecraft now orbiting Saturn drifted in giant planet's shadow for about 12 hours in 2006 and looked back toward the eclipsed +Sun. Cassini saw a view unlike any other. First, the night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected from its own majestic ring system. Next, the rings themselves appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed away from Saturn, slightly scattering sunlight, in this exaggerated color image. Saturn's rings light up so much that new rings were discovered, although they are hard to see in the image. Seen in spectacular detail, however, is Saturn's E ring, the ring created by the newly discovered ice-fountains of the moon Enceladus and the outermost ring visible on this picture.
