Friends, There is no easy way to say this. But I could desperately use your help. As most of you know, my best friend, my pup Rocky is very ill. It is looking like he has a bad bacterial infection, or ingested a toxin. Either way, he is fighting hard. The vet has him on Anti-biotics, fluids, etc to try to help his body fight this thing. I REFUSE to give up. I know he can beat this. He is a strong boy.

The problem is, it costs alot of money to help him fight this, and without the money, they cannot continue the urgent care he needs right now. SO I AM HAVING AN IMPROMPTU PRINT SALE OF ANY OF MY PHOTOGRAPHS. I am putting a gallery together of everything I have to choose from, but It will take some time. I will send you an email after you purchase a print.

Doh! I just realized that I have another frame that fits in that loop, making it a five frame animation, showing pretty much the entire wing flapping motion of this Common Kingfisher. Shot with the EOS 1D X and a 600mm f/4 lens at f10, 1/1000, ISO 1600.

Click on the thumbnail to view the larger image. It's quite impressive, if I say so myself. :)

Thandi's story
This pic of Thandi was taken just a couple of days ago. (photo courtesy Kariega game reserve.)
Thandi and her rhino buddy, Themba, were living a peaceful life on a game reserve in South Africa. One evening, back in early March, they were attacked by poachers, their horns hacked off their faces by machetes and then left for dead. Imagine how horrific that must have been and how gruesome the images were when they were found lying lifeless on the ground. Fortunately, they were found before they died and people worked around the clock to nurse them back to health. Unfortunately Themba succumbed to his injuries but Thandi seems to be getting stronger.

In 2010 we had a safari in some lesser know National Parks in Tanzania.
In Katavi NP (close to the Eastern border and Lake Tanganika) , we were the only guests for a few days. This is what safari in Africa should be ...

Mali in 2006.
A visit to Mali, is visiting different tribes. These were people living along the Niger river, on which we traveled in a "Pinasse" (a small, elongelated boat) from Timbuctou towards Mopti. In 2006 they were living quite happy alongside...
People from the same tribe called themselves "frères" and those from an other tribe were "cousins".They were mostly Muslim, but gave it an African flavour (not taking it too seriously). Although their clay mosques are beautiful.

I hope Mali will return to peace soon.
