Chomsky to Occupy: "Move to the next stage."
Noam Chomsky has advice for the Occupy movement, whose encampments all over the country are being swept away by police. The occupations were a "brilliant" idea, he says, but now it's time to "move on to the next stage" in tactics. He suggests political organizing in the neighborhoods.
The Occupy camps have shown people how "to break out of this conception that we're isolated." But "just occupying" has "lived its life," says the man who is the most revered radical critic of American politics and capitalist economics.

Moscow's Banksy: the street art of P183 – in pictures
A Russian street artist who created a giant pair of spectacles from a streetlamp has been dubbed 'the Russian Banksy'. The mysterious figure, known only as P183, creates eye-catching works around Moscow. P183 reveals little about himself except that his name is Pavel, he is 28 and that he studied 'communicative design'http://bit.ly/zizsDg

As a former newspaper and wire service reporter, I'm impressed with the recently revised NPR Ethics Handbook, on several levels:
* It's online for anyone who wants to look at it. That's a standard of transparency other news organizations should emulate.
* It calls for fairness instead of "objectivity." I've always felt objectivity was an absurd standard.Human beings can't be 100 percent objective - for that you want robots. But they can strive to be fair.
* This, above all: "At all times, we report for our readers and listeners, not our sources. So our primary consideration when presenting the news is that we are fair to the truth. If our sources try to mislead us or put a false spin on the information they give us, we tell our audience. If the balance of evidence in a matter of controversy weighs heavily on one side, we acknowledge it in our reports.... more »

G+ people, please help me! Someone in Brownsville Texas has found one of my whale shark satellite tags and I would dearly love to get it back. If you can +1 this and share through whatever SM avenues you have, you never know who is 1 degree of separation away from the finder! Tag looks like the ones in this photo. Finder can contact me for a small reward. TO BE CLEAR - nobody stole the tag from me; it just came off the shark as designed and washed up somewhere, which is when someone found it. I want it back because it contains all sorts of juicy data about whale shark migrations that can't be transmitted via the GPS satellite. Think of it like losing the memory card from your camera, only the whale shark was the one on vacation :)

Heart Surgeon Speaks Out On What Really Causes Heart Disease
I've read health articles and been told by health professionals that inflammation is the cause of all diseases, but I didn't put it in the context of heart disease. The M.D. makes a compelling case for his recommendations regarding foods we should and shouldn't eat to prevent inflammation and heart disease.

...many people became fond of the goats as image and metaphor — scruffy, independent, friendly, determined, one of the most humanlike creatures in the barnyard, with qualities many sheeplike humans might emulate."
“The red goat is a great symbol — simple, striking, edgy, easy to remember and easier to associate with a sense of stubborn defiance,” it wrote. “People get paid a lot of money to come up with stuff like this, and here Kingston is getting it for free.”

"The Sheriff's Office insists in court documents that the use of a tank, a bomb robot and 40 deputies was part of its normal course of duties" in arresting a man for owning chickens.
Hint: Maricopa County.
