Here are some of my favourite street art taken around Melbourne in the last 3 months. Melbourne seriously has some amazing and talented street art. I've been slowly trying to accumulate their work by picking them up at their exhibitions to both support their work, and so I can own them of course.

So last night I actually attended TRYBE as an audience member, and got to watch the show with actual paint, and enjoy the show more than anything else. Still, I couldn't help myself and brought my camera, this time with the 135mm manual lense. This proved difficult with the low light and fast movement. Most photos were out of focus. There's still time to catch this show. It's playing till this Sunday.  http://chapeloffchapel.com.au/melbourne-comedy-theatre-art/melbourne-events/melbourne-theatre/trybe-an-opera-in-paint-14-24-march/

It's ridiculous how exciting a small recognition can make you feel.

I created a view bug account nearly a year ago, and submitted a few photos for their competitions. However I haven't done anything with that account for at least 7 months. Yesterday I got notified that this photo was selected by the judges as one of their favourite photos. Not exactly sure what that means, as I originally submitted for the "teenagers contest". It was probably awarded to lure non active users back. Still, I'm excited. the little things.....

Just found a photo which I would been in the way of your photo +Alex Yakimov +Margaret Wong +Queenie Moo +George Darsas. You guys look quite cute all standing in a row. i had to add a graduated filter on the top to remove you guys in this shot. This was so a fluke. Had no idea they were going to be coming from behind me!

Last night, I shot the full dress rehearsal of TRYBE, a unique and visceral experience that challenges the boundaries of dance, art, music and film. Showing at Chapel of Chapel from tonight to March 24th 2013. I maybe bias as my brother in law Greg Long did the sound and I'm a big fan of Anthony's work. The photos speak for itself for what's in store. And that is WITHOUT the paint!  And add the intense and dramatic music. I'll leave you to your imagination. Get yourself a ticket now. Tickets are only $27-$30. http://www.anthonybreslin.com/trybe/main/trybe_home.htm

Another month, another abando mission with +Margaret Wong and +Jeremy Porter. At 25 weeks of my pregnancy, I must admit, it was a little bit harder to climb through/up/down things. This place also felt far less stable compared to our last mission. I was far more cautious this time as it just wasn't worth walking on something that I didn't know would just collapse in a heap. Halfway through our mission, we also heard 2 security guards walking around. So we had to hide for a little bit. After that, I just got the creeps and heard every noise. The pigeons sounded like footsteps and a cyclist. This might be my last abando mission. We'll see.

Some snaps I took this week during my week at Aireys. I had grand plans to capture dusk and dawn shots, and the full moon. Unfortunately it was either overcast, raining, windy or really cold. There was a thunderstorm on the first night, but sadly it was a little far and I didn't snap anything despite trying for 40 minutes. Anyways, here's some snaps taken with the Olympus OM-D with either the OM 135mm (270mm equivalent) or 28mm (56mm equivalent). I'm slowly slowly getting better at manual focus.

Last weekend Melbourne hosted it's first White Night, a 12 hour arts festival. Melbourne came alive with art installation and live music. I thought it was a great festival. The vibe was fantastic with lots of happy people. The city was packed, and I felt like I was overseas on holiday. Well done Melbourne for putting on such an amazing festival. I would like to see this as one of the main things on the calendar that people travel to Melbourne for.

Whilst I took my tripod, it didn't stand a chance with the crowds. Instead, I snapped everything handheld with the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro lense attached to my OM-D. I am seriously amazed by this camera and lense. I bumped up the ISO, and even at 5000, there is minimal noise.

And introducing the HUMANOID.

I was photographing some street art in that laneway just off Union St, Windsor with +Margaret Wong +David Williams and two other Instagramers, when the roller doors opened. We then noticed some amazing pieces of artwork and an old editing machine. We started getting talking with the two guys. Then I spotted this mannequin, and I asked if I could photograph it. He said of course, then turned it on. It's actually unfinished. She's suppose to be response to noise and a whole lot more. You can read more about this project.

However, more excitingly, after chatting to this guy more, my two Instagramer friends knew exactly who HE was, and he knew who one of them was. He turns out the guy is Wayne Tindall, the guy who is actually responsible for getting all that street art along that lane, and Sam his IT guru who has helped him build the Humanoid.Wa... more »

A bit of a plug.....

My friend Anthony Breslin is an amazing artist. You may even have come across some of his works. His created his "bugs" in the myer window", done  free performances at the Docklands (check out his website http://www.anthonybreslin.com). Anyway, he is now back for the 2nd installation of "Trybe - An Opera in a Paint". The best way to describe it, he paints over people with intense music. It's a mixture of art, performance, dance, theatre, paint and music.

It's playing at Chapel of Chapel from 14 - 24 March. Tickets are only $27.50, so get your self down there. My brother in law is also responsible for the music and is madly writing the music now. So get yourself down there if you're into that sort of thing.

You can find out more on his website....

Thanks to +Paul Pavlinovich who setup and taught us to shoot under this light setup, I produced these images of a lovely mum to be at a studio lighting workshop last Sunday. I took the opportunity to test my grandfather's Leica 50mm f/1.4 on my omd. I found it quite difficult to manual focus with the limited light available.

Here's a photo of the lovely +Sam Balazs I took at last Sunday's studio lighting workshop. Thanks to +Claire Grigaut who was directing Sam. I struggled with composition with the limited space available between the model and the wall as this was taken at a focal length of 100mm with an old Leica 50mm f/1.4 lense on my omd.  Luckily I managed to manual focus properly on the subject.

Here's some photos I snapped of +Matthew Conway, using an old OM film lense, the 135mm f/2.8 (equivalent to 270mm) on the omd. I must say, I really like the lense, and must use it more. Thanks +Ananda Sim for showing me how to set the IS control. I still do find it hard to focus but will keep practising!!

On Sunday, I attended a studio lighting workshop organised by +Paul Pavlinovich. For this workshop, I decided to test out some old film lenses on my omd. As such, I had to use manual focus (something which I suck at and consequently most of my photos were out of focus or not sharp). Here's a series of photos of +Al Christensen's gorgeous girl Lana. There is something about her that is mesmerising. Unfortunately most of my photos of her were out of focus.

And the final walk lead by +Paul Pavlinovich. By then it was cold, and raining and I was quite full from lunch. Didn't take many photos. However coming across this bridal party at Parliament steps made my day. There was a stretch hummer. Also there were a group of groosmen with very very shiny suits. Hhhhm, enough said. I'll let you come to your own conclusions.

On Saturday I participated in Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk. However, it was actually kinda like 4 walks in one from 10am to 6.30pm. I was exhausted.

Big props to +Frank Yuwono for leading this walk around Docklands. It was a huge group with many usual faces and many new faces. As usual, socialised more than I took photographs. I guess that's the best bit as I'm really developing a strong friendship with people I have met through google+ and photowalks. I tried to travel light, and only had my #omd  with 12-50 kit lense and 20mm with me, a jumper and umbrella. Yet by the end of the day, my back and feet were soooooo sore. I still haven't quite recovered.

On my recent trip to Bangkok, I tested my street photography skills. I tried various things:
- shooting from the hip (which I found much more success using my wide angle lense. I'm getting better at actually getting something in the frame. I haven't included any of the shots though as they were quite boring)
- snapping, then smiling (seems to work half the time)
- asking permission (seems to work 3/4 of the time)

I must say, I'm starting to enjoy street photography much more. It has given me much more confidence. Approaching strangers isn't as hard as I feared.

Eventhough the full moon is tomorrow, I thought it would be great to grab photos of the moonrise. I was riding home about at about 4.45pm thinking cool I have heaps of time as it's not till 6.08pm. Then I caught a glimpse of the moon and it was HUGE. I thought what, TPE doesn't lie, why did it rise early. Pedalled as fast as I could, got home, swaped lenses, rushed out with the tripod. Set everything up, damn it, no battery. Ran back in, and managed to snap these shots at 5.24pm. Just checked TPE, and it was still set for Phuket, Thailand. so if anyone is interested, the moonrise is at 6.08pm in Thailand. FAIL!!!!!!

I'll attempt it again tomorrow, but I don't think it will be as good as the sunset will be after moonrise. We'll see.
