On my way back from Jeffreys Bay, I went via Graaff Reinet, which is the 4th oldest town in South Africa. The church was declared a National Monument on the 21 March 1975.

Rufous-naped Lark - I sat for a while and waited and noticed that everytime after a few whistles, he flapped his wings. Only problem was the amount of whistles between each flap was inconsistent....so I had to thumbsuck. Naturally I landed up with loads of photos with it in the same pose but out of all those many, I finally managed a decent one :-)

Just a quick question from all South African Google+ users. How are you coping with the bandwidth? I find I'm going through about 200-300mb a night simply using Google+ At the price of our bandwidth, this is working out extremely expensive. Any advice would be welcome.

I've made a point of at least once a week, to get out to one of my local favourite places. Everytime I go there, I see something different or I capture something different and even if I dont capture anything at all, I still love the fact of being outdoors in the midst of nature.

This morning before work I stopped to put in petrol at the BP garage at The Boulders shopping centre in Midrand. The attendant took my card and I received an SMS confirming that the transaction had gone through. A few minutes later the attendant returned to tell me that there was a problem with the card machine and ask me to pay for the fuel in cash. I refused because I knew the transaction had already gone through. I showed him the SMS and he told me to wait. Twenty minutes later he returned, still insisting that the transaction had not been processed and still insisting that I pay cash.

I demanded to speak to a manager. About ten minutes later the attendant returned with a gentleman wearing a "Cashier" name tag, although they insisted he was the manager. He showed me a card machine slip and said that since my amount was not on that slip, my transaction had not gone through. I showed... more »

Name and Shame.....how people should NOT behave in nature and wildlife reserves. Then people like this wonder why they get attacked by wild animals. These youngsters are totally oblivious to the fact that there is in fact rhino and cheetah in the reserve, amongst others. I was also unfortunate to be on the receiving end of their rowdiness in a bird hide. After 5min in the hide, we couldn't stand the noise anymore and left. No etiquette whatsoever. People like this should be banned from nature and wildlife reserves!

Giant Kingfisher and Egyptian Goose having a chat. What actually happened was the Giant Kingfisher and the Egyptian Goose were back to back minding each others business. The Egyptian Goose then turned around to walk away from the water. The Giant Kingfisher sensed movement behind him, turned around at quite a speed (not bad for a bird that can sit motionless for ages), and then decided to have a few words with the Egyptian Goose and a conversation ensued .. LOL. Unfortunately this was one of my experimental photos using AUTO ISO on the 7D, so the quality is not up to standard but thought I would post it nevertheless as it had a story :-)

Decided to go birding today....not a good day for birding considering the weather was extremely hazy and my 7D does not cope well using higher ISO than 200 in low light conditions. As an experiment, I decided to put ISO on AUTO sometimes and see what it gives me. While the image on the LCD screen looked great, it was terribly disappointing viewing on the big screen, nevertheless not something I will try again :-)

'Deleted' Facebook photos still available after 3 years.

The site Ars Technica has been badgering Facebook to delete deleted photos since 2009. When you delete a photo on Facebook, the picture can remain available with a link, and is removed only from profiles and tagging links.

Facebook promised to fix the problem, but three years later deleted pictures still remain.

Facebook says they're still working on a system that will delete deleted photos only 45 days after they're deleted, and that the system should go into effect in a few months.

Last year we went to Kruger National Park and stayed at Punda Maria. Lovely camp but after a in/out visit to Shingwedzi, Shingwedzi seemed far nicer, so that is where we will be staying in our next visit. One of the animals so many people dislike because they are supposedly a nuisance, always seem to fascinate me and I can sit for hours observing them and occasionally having a good laugh. This is none other than the vervet monkey :-)

This set was taken @ Augrabies Falls National Park in South Africa. My partner and I went to Augrabies before he had to head back home and I carried on to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The falls weren't that spectacular as there was a bit of a drought taking place at the time however it was a different scene altogether a few weeks later, when the place was flooded. Unfortunately Augrabies Falls is very far from where I live so it wasn't a matter of me getting in my car and going for a drive.
